You guys are dumb, just read the 3G screen: "Slide to Unlock!" Easy.
  • Anonymous · 1 year ago
Please don't reply to noobs you guys....

    Especially trolling noobs
  • unlockYOURBRAIN · 1 year ago
i really wanted to avoid replying to your DUMB post....but i thought i will educate you...

this is NOT screen unlock... its a baseband unlock to unlock any GSM network on your LOCKED phone...
  • Seriously! · 1 year ago
No, he's right! It says it right on the screen. Then you just slide from left to right. Why all the fuss, it's easy!
  • Unknown · 1 year ago
The term "Unlock" means to allow the iPhone 3G, and or 2G to allow other services besides the main host, AT&T.

I doubt we'd go through all of this for a Slide to unlock.
  • willydavidk · 1 year ago
well we don't understand it either, I mean it says it right there on the screen! What's all the fuss???

[i hope you guys realize we're just screwing around here]
  • me · 1 year ago

  • chosen1920 · 1 year ago
Thanks i can't wait... you guys are the best
  • ZeroDegre · 1 year ago
    I have a question.
It was written over the web that the 2.0.2 update makes a baseband upgrade for iPhone 3G.
Updating with the pwntool is safe ? (I mean, will it make a 'possible' future unlock more complicated?)

    Thanks
  • dafad · 1 year ago
if you want to unlock your iphone 3g (whenever that's possible) you shouldn't update - it will make it more complicated

How about patiently waiting? They OBVIOUSY are working on things.....appreciate!
  • Robin · 1 year ago
I'm starting to realize that there's not going to be a iPhone 3g unlock.. Apple has learned from it's mistakes with the 2g iPhone. I respect all the work the DevTeam has done and I'm very satisfied with Pwnage as it is today. But I fear that we'll never see a iPhone 3g unlock. Please prove me wrong
  • Voyager529 · 1 year ago
I'm not pretending to have an inside track on the iphone dev team, but I do have a vague idea about people who do what they do. Hackers who do stuff like this and DeCSS and AACS, etc. do it because of an internal desire to solve the puzzle. The IPDT's finest hour will be when you can go to ZDNet, Slashdot, ars technica, and the New York Times sites and they will all have front page stories on how Apple, with their deep pockets and dedicated programming staff, still lost to the iPhone Dev Team. That's why they do it. And until there is an iPhone 3G unlock, they will not stop trying. It is this dedication that I admire and aspire to. Best of luck, iPhone Dev Team. If we ever cross paths, the beer is on me.

    Quick question...
look like the new QuickPwn GUI doesn't work-i select the IPSW, it does a spinning wheel, then the arrow doesn't get activated.

And yes, I am using the right firmware. Anything else I'm doing wrong?
  • PoorladRob · 1 year ago
Try this: Get into a command prompt and type:
    del %temp%\zip*.tmp
  • shouser · 1 year ago
no love for me either. same situation. spinning wheel and no button.
I tried deleting all the zip*.tmp as well.
  • PoorladRob · 1 year ago
Try extracting the EXE file into a directory on your desktop (it's a self-extracting EXE file so you can open it up in, say, WinRAR and take the files out of it) ... does it work then?
  • DM · 1 year ago
Just tried it. Does get closer. It allows me to get all the way to the USB/virtualization info screen and then throws "an unhandled win32 exception occurred in QuickPwn.exe [916]"
  • PoorladRob · 1 year ago
    32-bit Windows or 64-bit Windows?
  • DM · 1 year ago
    32-bit. Win XP SP2
  • shouser · 1 year ago
No luck, the elusive arrow still eludes me. I extracted to the desktop and... nada. same sticking point. 2.0.2 5C1. Win XP (32 bit).
  • PoorladRob · 1 year ago
    Windows Language?

Ok, are you guys running on Administrative accounts or limited users?

Can you give me an email address, both of you - I want to give you a test build that generates a log file.

Browse the IPSW, circle spins for a few seconds then stops. Blue arrow never enables.
    email: aasif.r@gmail.com
hoping to hear from u soon... :)
  • Neo · 1 year ago
    GOT A SOLUTION!!! :)
Just COPY+PASTE the IPSW file to the Quickpwn folder.
    Now it will work... :)
lemme kno if this fixes your problems...
    good work poorlad....
  • philgin.com · 1 year ago
Just want to add to Neo's solution:

    1. Extract the zip file: you get Quickpwn150.exe
    2. Extract the exe file: you get Quickpwn folder with a Quickpwn.exe and some dlls and some folders.
    3. Copy the ipsw to this folder
    4. Run Quickpwn.exe
    That should do it!
  • Luke · 1 year ago
Thank you! This worked like a charm. :)

  • NotInUse · 1 year ago
Can someone please explain what's so bad about the "Unarchiver?" What problems does it cause? More curious for my own knowledge that how it related to PwnageTool.

    Thanks
  • iphonedev · 1 year ago
It breaks the permissions of applications inside the PwnageTool bundle, last time people were using this application to decompress, then they were providing it as a zip file, which screwed up all of the permissions and caused problems when the application (such as Installer.app or cydia) was put onto the device.
  • NotInUse · 1 year ago
    Ahh.. thank you for explaining!

And thanks again for the work you all do!
  • Roquen · 1 year ago
I still can't put any custom images into it. And yes i checked everything, the photos are 320 by 480 alpha channel and under 100k. This has happened to me since 2.0.2

That tutorial worked for me...but when I go to build the package, it asks for bootloaders. Apparently I don't have the right ones...
  • ogez · 1 year ago
Hi Dev Team, Why don't you just recognize that 3G baseband beat you? We all had faith in you :( but know it seems that unlock is far to come true from you guys.
  • Seetherq · 1 year ago
Ooh you trickster! Using reverse psychology. I bet the Dev Team will drop everything in their lives and respond to that. Wow, good thinking.

So, why should they admit defeat? Plenty of Crypto hackers strive for years to break a good algorithm. Many times they succeed and many times they fail.

What do you care? You obviously are not up to the challenge, but many people like a challenge and will try to unlock the 3G iphone even when the next gen comes out - if they think there is a chance, then they will keep trying. Obviously they have discovered a few implementation flaws that give them that hope.

I just wish all the n00b whiners would get a life. Bunch of idiots that bought a phone hoping it could be unlocked when everyone says that it the real answer is "maybe".

WHINE WHINE WHINE - "I want my 3G unlocked". One day Dev team will get tired of all this and quit or keep all the good stuff for themselves. I would not blame them with all the demands and complaints that are on this blog.
  • hellyeah · 1 year ago
    You guys are kickass!
  • hellyeah · 1 year ago
So I heard that the creator of the 3G baseband announced a challenge to people to crack it. He said it is impossible. I am guessing it is a hardware lock that can only be unlocked remotely.
  • S · 1 year ago
    Really?
    Thats pretty interesting.
    Got a link ?
  • mlabarbera · 1 year ago
So I know this may sound elementary, but I keep using pwnage tool to upgrade to the new updates. In the process I am losing all my customize, winterboard themes, downloaded programs etc. Basically, is there a way to update to jailbreak 2.02 but keep all the stuff I've updated on my phone since I updated to 2.01??
  • ALCALOIDE · 1 year ago
Does it unlock the 202 on 2G iPhone?
  • parabel · 1 year ago
QuickPwn 1.50 doesn't even start on my computer (not that I need it at the moment, as I have no iPhone yet. Just wanted to look at it). Version 1.20 worked fine. As soon as I start it and I give permission to Windows Vista's User Account Control, there comes the Vista error message that the applicationen was closed and it files a Windows error report. It then asks me if the program was "installed correctly" and when I click on "try again with recommended compatibility settings", it crashes again on application startup. My system: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 (german), intel core quad, 8GB ram, iTunes 7.7.1 (x64) (all iTunes tasks closed)...
  • PoorladRob · 1 year ago
Hmmm am wondering if this is an issue with 64-bit Windows, I can't say I've tested it personally. Anyone else?
  • Andrew · 1 year ago
I have the same problem. (Vista 64 Bit, 8gb RAM, and dual core proccessor)
  • PoorladRob · 1 year ago
Anyone else replicating this issue on 64-bit Windows? Anyone replicating it on 32-bit Windows?
  • Andrew · 1 year ago
I also tried running it on in compatablility mode for winxp and i still get the same issue. Im going to check ipod touch fans and see if anyone else is having this problem. I will get back to you on that.
  • PoorladRob · 1 year ago
Bug confirmed, I've found a fix, recompiling now.
  • Andrew · 1 year ago
Awsome. Thanks. Ill be gone for an hour or so. But will let you know if working (if know one has done so already) when i get back. Althoug im sure parabel and others will first. Thanks again.

Argh, after using Pwnagetool to make my custom firmware, I go into DFU mode (as instructed), i get succesfully entered DFU mode sign, and go into iTunes to restore. After the whole process, when the message that says "Your iPod will be blah blah 15 seconds", my iPod screen turns white and iTunes says "Detected an iPod in DFU mode..." Tried 3 times, and this happened. I made an new firmware for every time.. Hmm, what could be the problem here? And oh, when the iTunes has detected message comes, I try to restore (again) using the custom firmware, iTunes says "Detected an unknown error (6)"
  • ujce · 1 year ago
Yes I am getting a similar problem with my itouch and iMac - have now tried four times without success. Is there a serious bug in this release?
  • jiiikoo · 1 year ago
Seems only that dev-team epicly failed.
  • Chuck · 1 year ago
I'm having the same problem. Any word on this?

  • CorranQ · 1 year ago

  • johntreefrog · 1 year ago
I had same problem with my touch. Used custom 2.0.2 firmware to restore and got white screen. To fix I used iTunes restore of regular firmware then restored from my 2.0.1 custom firmware (I tried to use the 2.0.2 firmware again to no avail and had to restore regular again). Looks like there is a problem with ipsw for touch 2.0.2 firmware building.

As an aside to the usual can't wait comments, I was wondering if you could post a guide to creating your own PNG files. I'd like to totally customize even the logo's using Gimp but I'm not sure how to create the alpha channel etc. Huge thanks in advance :-)
  • Trabant · 1 year ago
Question: Is it worth the effort to upgrade to 2.0.2?

I have a 1st gen iPhone pwned running 2.0.1. Is there anything fixed or improved in 2.0.2 for the old (non 3G) phones?
  • Seetherq · 1 year ago
No one knows for sure as Apple's list of "Bug Fixes" says nothing else. My 3G didn't see any change from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 so I don't think you will either.

I hope that 2.1 has some real feature improvements and bug fixes. For the right stuff, i could give up jailbreak for a while, maybe even forever :)

But that is a big list i have, and I don't really think Apple will bless us that much.
  • Trabant · 1 year ago
Thanks for the response. The only description I've found with the upgrade is that its supposed to help with 3G connectivity, but might not in reality.

I was hoping that now that its been around for a bit someone might have noticed some difference.

is it possible to update to the 2.0.2 pwned FW?

what am i missing by don't upgrading to the newest baseband?
since i am a legit user, I would eventually prefer e.g. more stable and improved connections to a possible 3G unlock..
Anyone with details to the BB updates?

Im still having a problem with custom boot logos. It says "Sorry, but that doesn't appear to be the proper PNG file".

Hey Dev team I have a question.. Does PwnageTool 2.0.3 change any of the FW 2.0.2 updated fixes that were ment to improve the iphone 3g's performance? (Even tho I updated to the 2.0.2 FW and haent noticed any changes or improvments) <------ Am I alone on this observation???

Yay, Thanks for the update, now to contribute to the server crashing goodness!
  • jiiikoo · 1 year ago
Okay, so atleast 3 confirmed cases, where after the restoration to the new firmware, the iPod screen turns completely white, and iTunes says "Detected an iPod on restoratio mode blah blah"... Don't use the new pwnagetool!

    To fix the passwords issue:

    SSH into your device
    Go into /var/
Change the permissions on the Keychains folder to 777

I have a quick question, by pressing "disable partition wipe out" will it not delete all my contacts and game saves and what not?
  • Simoism · 1 year ago
Hey Dev team i think you should update your post to remind everyone of the baseband change if they go up to 2.0.2 on an iPhone 3G! People tend to get excited and irrational when you guys let loose with a release :)

I'm sticking with jailbroken 2.0.1 on my iPhone 3G until you hit us with the 3G unlock - happy to wait until then. Huge thanks for all your work! Without you guys i wouldn't have Offline Maps or a locally accessible dump of Wikipedia in my pocket.

    Cheers from Sydney, Australia.

  • Simoism · 1 year ago
    Actually, i remembered you'd written:

"...remember that the 2.0.2 update includes a baseband update for the 3G iPhone, so depending what your long term intentions are for the phone, update wisely, of course in the upcoming PwnageTool application you’ll be able to create a custom ipsw without the baseband update enabled."

That functionality isn't there for me in this version of PwnageTool. Is it still in the works?

Yes, no Passwords, Mail, WLAN etc stored ;-(
  • Ste · 1 year ago
I went back to 2.0.1 pwned custom: everything back to normal... Waiting for a bugfix release, since this is a confirmed bug.

Please someone help me. I am running an iphone Pwnagetool before with 2.02. I am trying to use the New 2.0.3 update and was wondering where I download the 2.02? Do I download this from the itunes? If I do this my phone becomes locked right? Do I have to lock it to unlock it?

    thanks

OK, restored to a CLEAN UNMODIFIED 2.2. Now I put the 2.2 FW file into QuickPwn folder, select iPod Touch, browse, and select the firmware file. Spinning circle comes next to the text, then disappears but stays there. What's wrong? Do I need a bundle or something?

Here is the ISPW file name (came from my hidden folder for iTunes): iPod1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore
  • PoorladRob · 1 year ago
Yeah, we're investigating reports of this - for 90% of people this is working fine but for some it's not. Check back for more details.

Thank you again for this new update. I just tried it and noticed that the passwords don't remain memorized with a custom 1.2.0.2. 5 C 1. or even with a custom 1.2.0.1 5B108.
The passwords for the Wifi and for the mail boxes have to be typed every time. I use an iPhone 2G and the phone works perfectly despite this problem.
When Pawned with Ipawn 2.0.2, to downgrade and customize back to 1.2.0.1 5B108. the passwords are memorized again, so the problem seems to come from iPawn 2.0.3 whatever the firmware is.
  • Mark · 1 year ago
Oh thank you guys for this PwnageTool update.

I still don't understand something: does Quickpwn uses and hardware related bug or is it just software?
And anyway how are things with 2.1 beta 4? :-)

Thank you again. I really love this blog!
  • respect17 · 1 year ago
When customizing firmware 1.2.0.1 and 1.2.0.2 with the iPawn Version 2.0.3 , the passwords are not memorized neither in the wifi nor for the mail boxes. this is probably a youth problem to be solved hopefully soon.
Thanks for this new update in the meantime.

quickpwn 150 not working. any word on this?
  • wares · 1 year ago
I'm guessing the 2% of users having trouble with 3G are all of us who have been blocking the baseband updates. I'm starting to think that an unlock is less useful than calls that don't drop.

Either way, thanks for this update.
  • hexoline · 1 year ago
After flashing just built custom 2.0.2 on iPhone1,2, I just noticed that the modem firmware is still at 01.48.02.
I can see "enable baseband update" in PwnageTool, but it's disabled, greyed out actually.
So is there a way to unblock the BB update, using PwnageTool, or is QuickPwn the only option for the time being?

It's an OTB unlocked device; I would really like to do this BB update.
  • hexoline · 1 year ago
Is there an answer to this?

How do we get the new baseband on the iPhone 3G and jailbreak 2.0.2? Only using QuickPwn?

    Thanks

Still no answer to my question.. Does anyone have an answer??

"Does PwnageTool 2.0.3 change any of the FW 2.0.2 updated fixes that were ment to improve the iphone 3g's performance? (Even tho I updated to the 2.0.2 FW and haent noticed any changes or improvments) <------ Am I alone on this observation???"

The reason I ask is because I am with AT&T and don't really need the "3g unlock". I would like to utilize any base band bug fixes Apple "supposedly" has initiated that corrects the 3g issues.. Anybody thats knows the answer please share lol..

hey guys! I have already quickowned my 2.0.2 5C1 using my bootcamp windows box. This is my first iPhone so I am coming across the shortcomings of an iPhone on a daily basis. The one that bugs me the most is inability to forward SMS - so jejunely of Apple not to include such a basic feature. Lots of basic features missing (this is a comment box not a rant confessional!) so I'll move on. I scoured far and wide but couldn't find a workable solution for forwarding SMS with 2.0.2. Any bright ideas?

    Same wifi problem here.

I can connect wifi, but when I 'lock it' (sleep mode), the phone seems to forget the password, and either ask it again, or just display 'No wifi'...
  • oz_paulb · 1 year ago
    i had a similar problem.

first, I built a custom .ipsw *without* cydia or installer. I DFU-restored to the custom ipsw, setup wifi, and setup mobile me. all worked well.

i then went back, created a custom .ipsw *with* cydia (but still without installer). DFU-restored again, setup wifi, setup mobileme. mobileme said that it configured ok. when I went to fetch mail, it said i had an incorrect password.

i went back into mobileme settings - it forgot my password. i entered it again, it forgot it again.

i then went to safari, and it asked me for my wifi password (even though the password worked before when i configured mobile me). i entered it again, then it forgot it again.

i'm DFU-restoring to my cydia-only .ipsw again to see if it happens again. if it does, i'll try using the 'default' options of pwnagetool and see if that works.

i'll post back here with any results.

EDIT: Same thing happened again (expert-mode created .ipsw - all options default except that I am NOT installing Installer). I setup Wifi, went to apple.com OK. I configured MobileMe - it said it was OK. I went into "Mail.app", it said my password for MobileMe was incorrect. I hit the sleep button, waited a minute or so, powered back ON, and ran Safari: it prompted me for my WiFi password again.

** Is there a permissions issue, or does choosing Cydia end up replacing some system library?? **

As I said, I'll try again with 'default' (NON-expert mode) options in PwnageTool and report back.

    - Paulb
  • oz_paulb · 1 year ago
OK, I re-ran PwnageTool, using (non-expert) default options. I DFU-restored my iPhone and selected the custom .ipsw. after restoring, i setup as a 'new' iphone with itunes - and told it to NOT auto-sync contacts/etc.

i then disconnected from itunes, manually setup wifi (difficult to type WEP password). i verified safari worked (went to www.apple.com). I then went back to the HOME screen, and pressed the Power (sleep) button.

I waited a minute two, powered-ON again, and ran safari. It popped up "Incorrect WiFi Password" and prompted me for the WEP password (again).

So, there does indeed seem to be some sort of a permissions problem (someone else suggested fixing permissions in /var/Keychains via openssh).

I'm now going to go back to my "no cydia, no installer" custom .ipsw and confirm that it *does* work OK (it did before, but maybe I just got lucky). Maybe this'll help the dev team narrow down the problem.

I'll report back with the results.

    - Paulb

Paul, same problem here. ANY SOLUTION YET?
  • oz_paulb · 1 year ago
see my new post with much more details.

Solution (at least from my testing): Don't include "Cydia" in your custom .ipsw. (Use "expert" mode of PwnageTool, use default options for everything, except UN-CHECK "Cydia installer" under "Custom Packages").

Or, wait for Dev Team to fix the problem.

K, quick bug notice (possibly) ?:

During the pwnage setup, when you're choosing packages from Cydia to have included in your custom firware, in this case Winterboard and MobileTerminal, they show as downlaoding / downloaded (and also selected afterwards), but they don't appear / install after pwning (I looked in pwnage's .app folder, and they aren't there either. I did a fresh download of pwnage, and started from scratch, but the same things happen. So not sure if it's Cydia or pwnage related.

The Password storage issue can be fixed by installing OpenSSH and applying a chmod of 0777 to /var/Keychains. This will allow the passwords to be stored to the Keychain database.
  • oz_paulb · 1 year ago
any idea why everything seemed to work fine when I chose to NOT install Cydia or Installer in my custom .ipsw? (it seemed to remember WiFi/MobileMe passwords OK)? I only saw this issue when I included Cydia in my custom .ipsw.
  • dimpared · 1 year ago
I made no tests without Cydia included in the IPSW. It appears as though it is an issue with the permission set by PwnageTool. I would imagine it will be fixed in the next update.

the quickpwn is not working properly. When you browse for the ipsw file and it searches if it's valid, it doesn't let you continue. The arrow doesn't get out of that grey state so you can push it to continue.

All email passwords (including MobileMe), WiFi passwords, and voicemail passwords are not being saved. After a reboot, or a restart of the SpringBoard, you are prompted for the voicemail password, no longer connected to WiFI (if your WiFi network has a password), and email doesn't work.

  • oz_paulb · 1 year ago
*** The password problem *appears* to be related to including "Cydia" in the custom .ipsw ***

(I don't want to point fingers at Cydia - it just seems to be the case from my testing)

I have tested various settings in PwnageTool. Whenever "Cydia" is included, my WiFi password is 'forgotten' on the iPhone (I need to re-enter it after phone goes to sleep/is turned ON again).

Whenever "Cydia" is NOT included, it seems to remember my WiFi password.

    PwnageTool options tested:

-- NON-expert, default options: forgets WiFi password

-- Expert, NO Cydia, NO Installer: remembers WiFi password

-- Expert: WITH Cydia, NO Installer: forgets WiFi password

-- Expert: NO Cydia, WITH Installer: remembers WiFi password

    In all cases:

    - Using Sparkle-updated PwnageTool 2.0.3 on x86 Mac Mini

    - First-gen iPhone, previously Pwned

    - Using Apple firmware: iPhone1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw

    - When restoring to custom .ipsw, used DFU-mode restore (screen is black)

    - After restore, when itunes prompts, I choose 'new' iphone option, then UN-check "automatically sync contacts/etc".

    - When using Expert mode, I used default options for everything except Cydia/Installer selection

    ***************
if you are having problems with passwords,
    install Open SSH
using terminal ssh into the phone by typing
    "ssh root@your_iphones_ip"
and when is asks for the password enter alpine
    then type "chmod 777 /var/Keychains"
    and reboot the iphone
it should work ok after that
    hope this helps some.
  • oz_paulb · 1 year ago
Or, if you don't feel comfortable using ssh/chmod/etc:

    - Don't include "Cydia" in your custom .ipsw (see my other posts for more details). In my testing: If I don't include "Cydia" in the custom .ipsw, I don't have any password problems. (you must use "Expert mode" in PwnageTool to remove Cydia). Of course, if you rely on Cydia (for "Winterboard" install, for example), then this isn't a good solution for you.

    -- or --

    - wait for update from Dev Team (I assume there'll be a fix soon)

    - Paulb
  • grayb · 1 year ago
i guess you could do that, but im the one that relys on winterboard
  • oz_paulb · 1 year ago
I hope my reply didn't come off the wrong way... I wasn't criticizing your method. It's just that some people can be intimidated by the command-line (so I offered another solution).

Your (better) solution gets you a fix while keeping Cydia/Winterboard. My alternative just gets a non-tech user up and running with 2.0.2 until the Dev Team is ready with a fix.

    - Paulb
  • grayb · 1 year ago
oh no. it didnt. i am a little intimidated my the cmd-line, but i just
got a lil irritated with those pop ups. i had to install vista on my

this update work flawlessly. one minor flaw. its all good.

so perhaps i am missing something. i have successfully used the Pwnage Tool for both the previous releases (ie 2.0 and 2.0.1 versions of the iPhone firmware) but I can't get this one to work. I have acquired (from apple and a mirror) the 5C1 ipsw and when i run pwnage it doesn't find it and in expert mode it says "Wrong firmware bundle selected".

I am using the newest Pwnage Tool (Sparkle updated) and, as mentioned, the 5C1 firmware and attempting to use it on an iPhone EDGE.

    any ideas?

    thanks

    chmod -R 777 Managed\ Preferences/

That should fix this issue right up.

    Thank Guys!!!
Keep up the good work. However i do have one question...
Am I correct in not updating to 2.02 in order to prevent the baseband from updating, therefore keeping the anticipated 3G unlock simple?

    Thanks again

SERIOUS PROBLEMS. Tried to create an IPSW for 2.0.2 to be used on a 1G pwned 2.0.1 (without Cydia and Installer). The file built well but my iPhone is now stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes keeps giving me unknown error 6. Tries to use the old 2.0.1-IPSW for recovering, same result. And the phone, of course, cannot be used..

You probably did in recovery mode, put in DFU mode and repeat the whole process, then it should work. For further info on the difference, check out google and youtube

How does a new iphone 3G now to which carrier it should lock itself?

Are these settings pushed on first sync? Or how does that work?
Any place that has info on this?

Timely update for the Mac version. Thank you for all your hard work. I'm waiting for the windows version. You guys are terrific, what would the whole iphone/touch community do without you??
