If you would read news constantly in the past, you would probably know, that contract (for 3G) will have to be signed together with activation in store, afaik. Only if you would find some homeless to sign contract instead of you. Mostly owners of non-3G iPhone are happy from 2.0 FW cracked ... "Not so expensive" 3G iPhone will not be available imho.

True for the US, but I heard that it will be possible in some other countries to buy it without a contract (instead it comes with a net-lock). So there is a very good chance that we can get them without a contract. However, it won't be cheap.

I think it *is* an unlock but it only works on the original iPhone. The iPhone 3G has a different bootloader, and possibly something else plus it's not yet on the wild AFAIK

This is a customized firmware that should work with iPhone 3G. The sim-lock function should be controlled by the firmware, so I suppose that a customized firmware can also unlock the phone. Anyway I think that it's a matter of hours before we can discovery all the features of this software and understand what we can do.

I upgraded my itunes to 7.7 but it says my iphone already has the latest firmware update but my phone has 1.1.4 and when i go to check update it just says it already has the latest update and will check again for update on 12th june........ anyone else having this problem? as the app store is on the itunes store but saying i already have the latest update? i am in the uk and shops have been open since 8am for the iphone 3g and it is afternoon now............

What procedure did you follow to attempt downgrading? You should ask for help over at the hackint0sh forums, I'm pretty sure there's a way you can get your iPhone back to working status, but it may not be that simple.

Because official Apps are subject to security limitations imposed by Apple, while Installer and Cydia do not. That means you will find certain applications that will never get approved by Apple because they do background processing, work with system files, or just simply because the developer doesn't feel like paying the 99$ dollar fee.
Personally I think I will be fine with the App Store alone but there are dozens (at least) of great apps you can only get through installer like Customize and Summerboard. It's also a little bit faster to deploy apps using Installer/Cydia rather than submitting your app to the Apple and wait for them to review it (you could use Ad Hoc distribution though).

Whatever you say, noob. Ever heard of Taskbar Notifier? It runs in the background and gives you notification icons when you get an SMS, email, or miss a call, like many other phones. App Store apps are forebidden to run in the background. Get it? Also, themes are not supported by a non-jailbroken phone. Enjoy your vanilla phone.

Anyone can use photoshop, iPhoneDev. Theses screens are faker than my sister's tan :) Firstly, Installer and Cydia would not work on 2.0 :) Not at all. Secondly, you've only had a couple of hours since firmware 2.0 was leaked. In that time, you could not have possibly jailbroken, unlocked, and ported old apps over to the new firmware. Nahh.
You're fakin' it, and everyone's beleiving. You're only doing it for traffic, so everybody loves you and you can delay the next PwnageTool for about a month while you work out how toactually jailbreak it. Get off photoshop and do some work. If this was real, you'd have some videos uploaded.

The 5A345 is available for a long time yet. As far as I know there are no notable differences between 5A345 & 5A347.

the touch does not run the same s/w as the iphone... the touch is missing the mic! no mic, no apps that need the mic... just one example...

actually the ipod touch can run all iphone apps ;) even apps that need extra hardware. but you will obviously not be able to use some of them properly.

You should ask for help over at the hackint0sh forums, I'm pretty sure there's a way you can get your iPhone back to working status, but it may not be that simple.

That means you will find certain applications that will never get approved by Apple because they do background processing, work with system files, or just simply because the developer doesn't feel like paying the 99$ dollar fee.
Personally I think I will be fine with the App Store alone but there are dozens (at least) of great apps you can only get through installer like Customize and Summerboard.
It's also a little bit faster to deploy apps using Installer/Cydia rather than submitting your app to the Apple and wait for them to review it (you could use Ad Hoc distribution though).
For me, I'd jailbreak my phone just for services.app alone – the need is still here.

Anyone can use photoshop, iPhoneDev. Theses screens are faker than my sister's tan :)
Firstly, Installer and Cydia would not work on 2.0 :) Not at all.
Secondly, you've only had a couple of hours since firmware 2.0 was leaked. In that time, you could not have possibly jailbroken, unlocked, and ported old apps over to the new firmware. Nahh.
You're fakin' it, and everyone's beleiving. You're only doing it for traffic, so everybody loves you and you can delay the next PwnageTool for about a month while you work out how toactually jailbreak it. Get off photoshop and do some work. If this was real, you'd have some videos uploaded.
