  • Thanks Dev Team - works a treat.

Instructions for those who aren't sure:

    1) Download QuickPwn
    2) Run QuickPwn
    3) Select iPhone 3G
    4) Browse to the IPSW (you can download this file from iTunes - it is then found in (Vista) under: C:\Users\Name\Appdata\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
(If you can't see the folder Appdata then adjust view settings...jeessss...)
    5) Select Cydia/Installer/Boot Logo etc in QuickPwn
    6) Go! (read instructions on screen)
    7) Wait
    8) Enjoy (should reboot in 2.0.2 with Jailbreak).
  • ok, i obviously didn't make it quite clear enough - but you must UPDATE to 2.0.2 from iTunes FIRST, then use my instructions above...

(when you have finished, i recommend setting up phone as 'new'...)
  • Dear Dev-Team,

    Thanks for all your efforts.
Please tell us, how long we have to wait for iphone 3G Unlock???? You guys are only ones who be able to pull this off......We are really looking up to you!!

    Thanks again!!!!
    Good luck to you all!!
  • Shut up about the 3G unlock already jeez, now... when are we going to see a mac version?
  • Move to a country the Iphone is released in instead.
  • Yeah, I call it, T-Mobile USA country.
  • Yeah, I call it, T-Mobile USA country.
  • yes, its GREAT.
for those, who don't speak English, here in German:

für alle, die kein English sprechen, die Anleitung in Deutsch!:
    Was man tun muss:
    1) iPhone / iPod touch anschliessen
    2) QuickPWN starten
    3) iPhone 2G / iPod touch / iPhone 3G auswählen
    4) Firmware 2.0, 2.0.1 oder 2.0.2. auswählen (wird ja (XP) in C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\[USER]\Anwendungsdaten\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates (o.Ä.!) gespeichert.
    5) zum nächsten Schritt gehen
    6) iPhone in den speziellen Modus versetzen, bzw. den Instruktionen folgen!
    7) Jailbreaken lassen
    8) fertig! Alle Daten bleiben bestehen!
  • hallo ...
kann man das iphone 2g damit auch unlocken? also wenn ich auf 2.0.2 update das ich es dann unlocke? geht das?
  • Just a note that might save someone 15 minutes of their life, after you restore to a clean 2.0.1 (or 2.0.2), don't bother doing the "restore from backup" that iTunes prompts you with, wait till after you re-restore using the hacked ipsw firmware (e.g. iPhone1,1_2.0.1_5B108_Custom_Restore.ipsw).

    Seems obvious now...
  • 御世話になります。
  • Think so?
  • Hi iphone_shady

How long is the wait at step 7?
I completed step 6 and says congratulation you have successfully enter DFU mode
Saw 2 operations that says 100%done and then nothing happens. Does that mean it's completed and I can unplug or should I wait long for other messages.

    Thanks
  • Had that happen to me when tried QP on my iMac running Vista with bootcamp
Tried again thus morn on an old Dell with XP Pro,worked like a charm in about 10
    mins total.
Mine started pit with a white screen when QP started its thing and Zip its Pwned
    Great work Dev Team
  • Ok quickpwn looks awsome but I'm having the problem dude I'm using a normal pc I get to dfu mode at 23 secs then it goes to 100% and poof nothing if some1 can help that would be nice! Thnx in advance
  • Hey guys I wrote a complete tutorial about the latest QuickPwn
    Check it out : http://tinyurl.com/4bngl3

Well done Dev Team! Keep up the good work!
  • i cant find the file IPSW i am using windows xp not vista is this a problem please help me
  • In the German instructions, it looks like the browsing for IPSW has more information. Can you include that in the english translation?
  • It says the same! It just says, where you find the firmware files in XP instead of Vista!
  • I want to try this process

1 Upgrade from Itunes to 2.0.2 )the phone should remain activated and unlocked)

2 Use QuickPWN with firmware 2.0.2 in order to jailbreak the phone

    See you later
  • THNX for everything guys, you guys work very hard so we can jailbreak our phones.
    Now I,m gonna DL 2.0.2
  • Thanks for the infos dev team!
  • You guys are the best in the world . Thanks for everything
  • Nice work, the new Pwnage tool, do you have a ball park figure on when we'll have it?

    just askin!
  • SEMA: Shouldn't be too long, we are all trying to juggle "real-life" and iPhone fun. But as we said, it isn't imminent, thanks.
  • Thank you,

I really appreciate what you guys are doing and respect the balance you have for real life and iPhone work. Good luck to you!
  • Really appreciate it! You guys aren't obligated to do this at all and you don't even want donations! Put up a donate button already :)
  • I can wait for 2.0.2. I could just do QuickPwn on Vista on my MBP if I was really excited about it, but I haven't heard that it's more stable or in general more useful at all than 2.0.1.

Really I want to keep my custom boot logo :)
  • You guys are faster than usain Bolt :)
  • so now we mac people have to wait. bleh... :/ ... patience, it seems, it not one of my strengths. not at all... since i don't want to go to a windows box to jailbreak 2.0.2, i guess there's nothing i can do.
  • fryke: if you are _that_ desperate to move to 2.0.2 then you'll need to find a Windows box right now, but unless you have some urgent need to move to 2.0.2 just hang on.
  • Learned patience is a good thing. I really appreciate all the work from your team, DEV. Thanks for the treats!

We Mac people understand that living in a windows world, not everyone can handle a Mac! Ha-Ha.

Hay, by the way, Has anyone noticed that the pictures in their contacts are a little "screwy" sense the release of 2.0.1? Every time I add a contact, it puts a pic of someone else from my contacts as them. It seems as though my iphone is practicing a little incest. How funny is that?

    Thanks again Dev-Team.
    --Seattle
  • Boot Camp, man. Assuming you really *need* 2.0.2 for something... what are the changes, really, between 2.0.1 and 2.0.2? Has anyone gone through and really looked? I don't even think it's more stable.
  • Say I have my iPhone 3G on 2.0.1 (Pwned using Mac pwnage tool). I upgrade to 2.0.2 therefore losing the jailbreak etc, could I use my Windows XP install in VMWare Fusion to use this QuickPwn to jailbreak 2.0.2?

    Just looking for clarification.

Thanks for all the work you guys put in. I don't understand the people that give you shit for doing all this for free.

One thing - am I the only person who prefers Cydia over Installer? If I were doing what you guys do I'd leave Installer out and focus on Cydia giving it support and time to mature and become even better.
  • djk: I'm pretty sure VMWare would work in this way. Also we don't develop either Cydia or Installer.app, certain people want different things, you have that choice of which to use.
  • Thanks for the response.

While I understand that you don't develop Cydia or Installer, the whole thing just seems reminiscent of a "format war". Where if you guys said you were going with one or the other it would drive the development process of whichever was chosen and we'd end up with a more stable, reliable end product.

    Just a thought.
    Thanks again.
  • djk: They have different users and different supporters, we are just delivering it, so don't shoot the messenger! :-)
  • Seriously, it was not an attack on you or anyone else! Just thinking out loud.
  • Or we could let beautiful free market magic and competition give us a stable, reliable end product, rather than relying on artificial monopolies...

    Just a thought.
  • djk: I'm in almost the same situation; I use parellels instead of vmware.
Have a 2G iphone one 2.0.1 pwned using Mac pwnage tool. Did the firware upgrade to 2.0.2 with my mac itunes.
Thing is, iTunes on windows won't want to recognise the phone, because it's synced with another computer on another filesystem.
Quickpwn starts, I choose my type of iphone, locate the firware file, choose cydia & installer and hit the "Go" button.
A DOS-screens appears, telling me it's doing stuff with de firmware file, then the screen closes and nothing happens for about half an hour now.
In taskmanager I can see 2 active processes though reffering to Quickpwn: quickpwn-gui.exe and quickpwngui120.exe.
Also, the iphone doesn't go into DFU-mode.
So my guess, it won't work.
I'll just wait for the mac pwnagetool update to jailbreak, but I'll be missing winterboard though :-(
Mac users were the first to be able to update, jailbreak and unlock the 2G to firmware 2, so I'm not jalous now (maybe a little bit)
Way to go Dev-Team! Appreciate what you guys are doing!
  • I had this issue and what I did was backed up all info from itunes on one computer and then I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes. I then took all the iTunes files from my other computer and copied to the one that had not synced. When I connected the phone it worked as if it were synced when it had not been. It is kind of a pain but it does not take long to tranfer the files as they are not really big. I don't know if this would work for others, but it did for me. I am on a 2G in case that makes any difference. When all was done I restored all the original files and restarted and all was fine. Mt iTunes was the same as before I began.
  • so this will jailbreak 2.0.2 w/o updating the modem files correct?
  • No, I don't think so. Read the blog carefully, it says:
"remember that the 2.0.2 update includes a baseband update for the 3G iPhone, so depending what your long term intentions are for the phone, update wisely, of course in the upcoming PwnageTool application you’ll be able to create a custom ipsw without the baseband update enabled"
If you update using QuickPwn, your baseband will be updated.
Myself looking forward to the possiblity of an unlock, I would not update to 2.0.2 at the current moment.
  • Works flawlessly, 3G simlock free, which was at 2.0.2. now 2.0.2 + jailbreak :-) very happy camper.
  • Which simlock? How does it works? tks
  • flo!! how did you UNLOCKED the SIM ?????????
  • i need help. after i download the program and click onto the iphone icon, to the next page for me to browse for a folder?? what shld i do?
Anybody to guide me thgrough this?
  • So, if i pwn my iphone v1 (currently jailbroken and sim-unlocked) with firmware 2.02, will it just jailbreak or will it be able to unlock the news baseband ???
  • is unlock and jailbreak avaible? or only jailbreak avaible on this version?
  • as far as i understood this, it does only jailbreak.
    but maybe i'm wrong :D
  • does quick pwning your phone erase all the apps / data on your phone like a regular pwn/restore?
  • or is it just quick in the sense you dont have to make the ipsw separately, but pretty much gotta start from scratch with apps (ie mobileinstallation replacement etc.)
  • Can you give us a time when Pwnage Tool will get out??? One week, more? Thx for your good job
  • juju67: Sometime within the next 52 weeks, how about that?
  • I don't understand! What's the meaning of this?
  • I lol'd :)
  • just out curiosity...

how much time is spend on development vs. test vs. packing for each release.
Not counting the first one since that is mostly development.
  • Once again Dev-team

thank you ever so much for your dedication and respect towards us, it's a pity that some guys don't appreciate, but anyway, you are really fast, just 2 days after 2.0.2 release and BAMMMMM we see quick pwn supporting 2.0.2
once again, thank you all for your hard work, and we totally understand that you have real lives to balance.
    Thanks
  • Great for me.
    Iphone 3g Spain.
    Thanks
  • Thanks very much guys but under general and about it still says 2.01 for the firmware version even though I used this update tool with the official 2.02 firmware from apple. I have tested this on two iPhones and they both replicate the same thing with the version numbers.
  • In spain to mate, but with a SIM LOCKED AT T 3G.......Lo tienes desbloqueado, o solo jailbroken????
  • I ran this *GUI120.exe and everything seemed to be fine, quickpwned following instructions with all the number flashing by on the command prompt.

Now when starting up my phone I'm still at 2.0.1.... anyone else have the same problem?
    I am using a pwned 2.0.1 and running quickpwngui120.exe with iPhone1,2_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw
  • me too :)
  • I ran a second time with the same result... I saw something before the command prompt shut down though but I can't find any logs.
  • Yep, same here... iTunes still shows iPhone at 2.0.1 after flashing iPhone1,2_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw from http://www.iphone-hacks.com/downloads/file/135. Maybe the file is really a 2.0.1 image?
  • Errrm no! I downloaded the offical 2.02 via itunes and it says the same thing as your phone. Since the QuickPwn is beta i'd say it's just a bug were it isn't updating the firmware revision.
  • You need to flash 2.02 with itunes and THEN run quickpwn. It works like iLiberty+ etc.
  • It wasn't obvious that QuickPwn wasn't going to UPGRADE your firmware for you? o.O
  • Please learn how to read ... then re-read the blog-post above.
  • Love the dressage joke, especially with the Olympics and all. Cheers, mate.
  • ;-)
  • Any plans on releasing the next PwnageTool for both OS (Win & Mac)??? BTW I really appreciate your outstanding work, keep it up!!!

    Ps. Regards from Mexico
  • this doesn't fix the Youtube like in custom firware PWNED by Pwnage.
also, there seems to be problems with Installer.
Requesting you guys to post a better version soon.
    Thanks anyways.
  • guys... few things that needs to be included/fixed (for 2.0.2):

    - include YouTube fix for 2.0.2
    - fix the version of Installer (use the latest versions please) as the sources don't seem to work after using pwning 2.0.2 firmware on iphone 2G using quickpwn
    - latest version of Cydia (if possible)

NB: I have modded localization files which includes support for India & Bangladesh, i can give em to you guys for inclusion if you want.

btw... i used the earlier version of Quickpwn to pwn 2.0.2 firmware, and it worked! but had the same problems (no youtube fix, problems with Installer, etc...) :)

Waiting eagerly for you guys to come up with better stuff... :)
  • if i aleardy used the last version and i got pineapple logo, can i change it without restore ?
  • Yes! It worked and the ability not to have the pineapple logo but actually when I saw it on the iPhone, it looked good, really good, I want the pineapple now lol.
Good thing I didn't use custom logos unless I replaced the Steve Jobs logo with "Touching is believing" logo.

Great work Dev Team and poorlad, only if there was a way to repay you...........

You should be on every iPhone user's christmas list to get gifts for and at the top of it aswell.
  • Is it me or is the installer icon a bit lower than the rest f the icons??

And the Super Monkey Ball game icon a bit smaller than the rest of the icons??
Btw the icon for monkey ball has always been like this since installing it from App Store, not the dev teams fault.
  • shit you're right! installer is lower and super monkey ball is smaller!! blasphemy!!
  • Thanks a lot for the hard work!
  • Hi. Just used to new tool to upgrade to 2.0.2, but when I check the About page, it still says it's on 2.0.1??? Odd. I'm using the firmware that itunes downloaded for me.
  • I have the same sympton. using Windows XP. Tried it twice. all my apps, music etc remained on the phone and the phone and itunes say 2.0.1
  • Did you use the latest Gui version?

    Did you select the 2.0.1fw????

Did you update in iTunes before you started the quickpwn process????
  • oh and wt iPhone/3G/Touch??
  • iPhone 3G, 2.0.1.
Have ran quickpwn three times now with the same result. Still showing 2.0.1 in the "About" screen and in iTunes.
Could using different languages mess things up? Using both Swedish Windows XP and Swedish iPhone...
  • Read the Instructions at the top! ^^

You need to upgrade to 2.0.2 using the normal method! (via iTunes updater)

Yes this will get rid of Installer and Cydia and anything u installed with them...

BUT!! it does upgrade you to 2.0.2.. THEN!! you have to Pwn it using the tool!

NOTE!. THE NEW QUICKPWN TOOL WILL NOT UPGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE TO 2.0.2 YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THIS THE NORMAL WAY.. AND THEN QUICKPWN IT!

    Hope This Helped.
  • Have you upgraded to 2.0.2 using iTunes first? QuickPwn doesn't flash firmwares, if you want 2.0.2 you'll still have to upgrade first and then pwn it for the jailbreak.

Apologies if this isn't the case here.
  • For the guys that already used the tool and it still says 2.0.1 in the About screen - does iTunes still tell you that there is a new Version out and you should install it?
  • Yes it does for me.
  • upgrade to 2.0.2 then pwn it, quickpwn doesnt do a full flash, so it wont upgrade your phone.
  • Ran QuickPwn on an iPhone 3G factory unlocked (italian) which was previously jailbroken to 2.0.1 via PwnageTool and then upgraded to 2.0.2 via iTunes.
After entering DFU mode it always got stuck on "Performing operation 0, 100% done" (the 1% to 100% count for operation 0 was appearing two times, then it stopped).
After that, if I disconnected the iPhone and power it on, it would go into white screen. Another power off / on and it would go back to the springboard after a loooong boot.
Ok so after some tries, when stuck at "Performing operation 0, 100% done" I tried to remove the USB cable from the iPhone. When plugging it back in, QuickPwn jumped to "Performing operation 4, -1% done", the pineapple logo appeared on my iPhone and the pwnage went on smoothly, now it's 2.0.2 jailbroken.
Just wanted to share my experience with others that may get stuck at the same point. :)
  • What does your General>about say on your iphone for firmware version?
  • Version: 2.0.2 (5C1)
  • Oh and if you meant "Modem Firmware" that's 02.08.01, as I said I upgraded previously via iTunes as I don't care about future 3g unlock solutions as it's already unlocked.
  • Was your iPhone jailbroken with 2.01 before or did apply 2.02 first then jailbreak it with this app?
  • read my comment above, this app doesnt do a full flash, this is stated on the main page, so it obviously cant upgrade the firmware if it doesnt write it.

    Upgrade to 2.0.2 then quickpwn.
  • My iPhone 3g history:
    1. stock fw 2.0 to jailbroken 2.0.1 using PwnageTool 2.0.2
    2. jailbroken 2.0.1 to stock fw 2.0.2 via iTunes
    3. stock fw 2.0.2 to jailbroken 2.0.2 via QuickPwnGUI 1.2.0
  • You're probably using virtualization and iTunes doesn't play well with it. USB Resets don't seem to get sent. You'll notice the same thing if you try to restore/update with iTunes.

You can simulate USB resets by unplugging and plugging the phone back in, as you've discovered.
  • Aha! Thanks. I posted the same thing (having to unplug the phone after Operation 0) in the original Quickpwn thread, but no one responded.

I'll confirm that in my case, yes I am using Parallels VM on a Mac to to the Quickpwn.

Maybe you guys should put something to that affect in the reame or warnings...
  • Yep that's true, I was running it on a XP virtualized under VMware (running on Vista x64). Thanks for clearing that up.
  • Your the man!!

I had the same problem and your trick worked for me!!
  • Thank you, It worked for me as well
  • iphonedev: Great work dudes!
Question: Is the version number suppose to be updated in the settings section? Or is it some effect from "only" doing a quickpwn?
General question: The 2.0.2 is said (and proven with comparison videos..) to be faster regarding the network and especially 3G. Does this update reside in the firmware, or was it a bug in the baseband code?
Just wondering if our phones will get faster even though we're not upgrading the baseband basically..

    Keep up the good work.
  • i was running 2.0.1 pwnd. i updated trough itunes to 2.0.2 and then used quickpwn to do it's magic and all works fine.
  • It still DOESN'T WORK with all sim cards! the phone finds the sim card this time but there is 'no service'.
  • haha
  • So it seems to have to do the following to actually get the 2.0.2 onto your iPhone

    1. Upgrade to 2.0.2 normally in iTunes ( you loose your Jailbreak, Cydia, etc. )
    2. QuickPwn it with this new version ( you get your Jailbreak back )
    3. You have 2.0.2 with Jailbreak on your iPhone

It does NOT seem to work simply using this QuickPwn on a 2.0.1 that is already pwned and getting the 2.0.2 on there without having to first do an official Upgrade to 2.0.2 - at least from the comments everything seems to point in that direction.

    My question is

    1. Will you lose your Settings, etc. when upgrading to 2.0.2 in iTunes ?
  • itunes backs up icon locations and appstore app settings, jailbreak apps need reinstalling and setting up
  • Comment removed.
  • They haven't released pwnage yet.

Seems like the majority of the internets users is unable to gather information on their own...
  • Comment removed.
  • Does it unlock my iphone (no 3g)???
  • How soon we'll c mac version?
  • How can I use it in an iPhone 3G? Now I'm with firmware 2.0.1. And I wish to unlock my phone in the future.
  • Wait for the next PwnageTool.
They updated the info about quickpwn, it only jailbreaks.

So we'll have to wait a bit more for a new pwnagetool before we can update to 2.0.2.
  • Ok, so I will wait. Thank you!
  • hi
somebody can tell me if this application can unlock my iphone 2.02 ???
    thanx for all
  • NO!
  • yeah it can unlock if you hav previously pwned and unlocked iphone 2.0.1... i m haiving 2.0.2 unlocked......
  • NO!
  • This application is solely for jailbreaking, not unlocking.
  • After you've used Quickpwn, go to Cydia and install bootneuter and get that to unlock your iphone. As long as you have Cydia on your iphone, it can be unlocked.
  • Thanks a lot A.T. Worked like a charm.
  • Make a firm to update (shitf+click)
  • iphone_shady

ON IPHONE 2G NOT WORK YOUR STEPS, THE IPHONE STAY ON 2.0.1
  • Upgrade your firmware using iTunes to 2.0.2 first.
    Then run QuickPwn to jailbreak.
  • Thank you guys. Greetings from Mexico.
  • Doesn't this mean though that if you're a 3G user, doing a preliminary update to 2.0.2 in iTunes might permanently shag your baseband? Up until now we've been told to always use PWNed firmwares (which don't exist for 2.0.2) - I'm concerned that QuickPwn'ing on top of an official 2.0.2 install on 3G might do something irreparable

Ah fuck it, it feels like I'm restoring every week anyway, no point going crazy over a few bug fixes...
  • Hey Guys, thanks for this tool :)

Im on Normal 2.0 - not 2.0.1 or 2.0.2, I take it I can still use your awesome tool to jailbreak?

Im a little nervous about this, can it permantely damage my touch? what do I do if something messes up?

Last question.. how can I get the apple boot logo to return after jailbreaking.

    Thanks Guys :)
  • Hi there :)

This tool has support for firmware versions 2.0.0, 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 - just make sure feed the tool the IPSW of the firmware version you're currently using and want jailbreaking.

Next question - even if something messes up, nothing this tool does can permanently damage your device - everything is reversible.

Final question - this tool has the option to disable changing the boot logos so you'll still have the Apple boot logo.
  • Does QuickpwnGUI really need the logo files to run, because I deleted the custom images by using winrar to get access, then when i tried to run quickpwngui it would just crash.

I was about to replace the custom logos and luckily the Quickpengui for 2.0.2 came out. I again replaced the custom logos only to find out that the new ones has an option to install them. Then when I saw the pineapple whilst jailbreaking made me want the pineapple boot logo.

Phew that was hard work. lol
  • What about mac???????????????????????????????
  • 2.02 firmware fix - general>About....

ok boys and girls you need to restore your iPhone to the official 2.02 then jailbreak it using Quickpwn, this will then make the firmware display 2.02 :)
  • Many thanks, worked right now!
  • It unlocks 2.0.2 too.... i m using it.... just update to 2.0.2 and then use quickpwn to jailbreak... it will unlock+activate+jailbreak.. :-))
  • im on normal 2.0, i dont really feel the need to update to 2.0.2. can i still jailbreak without downloading .2.0.2 update?
  • Yes - this release has support for 2.0.* firmware, including straight 2.0.0.
  • Windows only? Well, you guys really SUCK. :P
  • Because Windows rule!!!! Much better than a Mac. I don't want to know from people saying leopard the most advanced OS ever, blah blah blah..etc

Fact is Mac's cost soooooo much more than a PC, for the cheapest Mac you can get a near top of the range PC :-)
  • lol all u can say about macs are that they cost more lol
  • Guys you are the best and making all iphone users very happy ( at least myself). Just a slight clarification, I am unlocked and jailbroken (used PWN tool for firmware 2.0.1 "customized") on a 1st generation iphone, if I upgrade with itunes and use quickpwn 120 will I still be unlocked? thanks for any feedback.
  • Yep and you'll still be activated. Then just use quickpwn to jailbreak your iphone.

Besides you could just use bootneuter from Cydia to unlock your iPhone even if it did get relocked.
  • Ok guys can I ask a question too cause I feel a bit dummie!
After updating the firm to 2.0.2 via iTunes, do we use 2.0.1 firm with the new QuickPwn tool or the 2.0.2 one?
  • If you're currently on firmware 2.0.2, then feed firmware 2.0.2 into QuickPwn.
  • What do u mean? After updating to 2.0.2 via iTunes i'll be at 2.0.2! Currently you mean before updating the firm? Cause then yes I am on 2.0.1 right now....
  • Update your device to 2.0.2 - you'll lose the jailbreak but the phone will be updated. Then use QuickPwn to jailbreak the device.

Important to understand that QuickPwn doesn't upgrade phones to new firmware versions, it just requires the IPSW of the firmware you're on in order to jailbreak it.
  • Ok I got it! So after updating to 2.0.2 via iTunes I'll use QuickPwn with the 2.0.2 firm to jailbreak my phone, right?

Thnx for your answers mate and sorry if my questions were stupid!
  • You got it :)
  • Works like a charm! Thanks from Italy :)

    HackDown
  • One qst. My iPhone 3G is Unlocked by the carrier, I can normally update and All, but, can I pwn my iPhone so it remains Unlocked. All I need is Installer so I can install KB to remove Auto Correction, which of course cant be found on Apple's App Store.

    Thank You.
  • anyway to make it recognize the old links? Now i have two of everything in /private/var/stash/
  • Hi everyone,
I am on 1.1.4. I just need to upgrade Itunes and launch QuickPwn to be on 2.0.2? Correct?

Many thanks for your help and your fantastic work

Rgds from South of France :)
  • It should work but when you upgrade your iPhone will get relocked unless on official contract.

I heard that QuickPwnGUI will activate and jailbreak it. Then unlock with bootneuter.
  • Ok, I want to Jailbreak my iPhone 3G. I have an orgignal iPhone 3G by T-Mobile. Does QuickPwn activiate the iPhone? I only want to Jailbreak it.
  • It would be helpful if the PwnageTool team would focus on making it possible for Mac users to upgrade their iPhone firmware as soon as possible after Apple releases new firmware.
  • Any advice for those of us that updated to 2.0.2 via itunes and then used quickpwn with 2.0.1? I see 2 possibilities:

    1. Drop 2.0.2 in quickpwn folder and run quickpwn again (Easy)
    2. Restore firmware to 2.0.2 via iTunes then drop 2.0.2 into quickpwn folder and run quickpwn (hard as it involves data restore and lots of time)

    Any advice from Iphone-Dev team?
  • The first choice is okay insofar as undoing the damage you've done goes (because you've flashed 2.0.1 NOR firmware and installed a 2.0.1 kernel on a 2.0.2 system). However, you will do major damage to your Cydia or Installer installations because you will make them forget about all the apps you have installed. Perhaps you might try uninstalling every application you've ever installed with Cydia or Installer and then trying #1. However, there's a chance Installer and Cydia will never work quite right for you until you restore.
  • Thanks, I was pretty sure I was copying a modded kernel fo the wrong rev. (at the very least) but thought I would "see what happened". I expected that and I think will just go the route of #2 as it really is the safest bet for long term stability.

Just wanted to confirm that I really did fubar myself :)

Thanks for all the great work and taking time to respond.
  • I just updated my iPhone (old one) with iTunes and then having QuickPwn running over it. Everything worked fine except that I do not have any carrier signal anymore. Instead of this it just says "No service". What went wrong? I am using a AT&T phone with a Swisscom SIM.
  • ths, i have the same problem.... everything works only that i don't have any carrier signal.
  • I have exactly the same problem... Iphone asks to fill in the pin code, everything works.... exept the ability to call..... :-(
  • plse help....
  • Try unlocking it. Use bootneuter.
  • PROBLEM, PLEASE HELP:

Iphone 3G Updated OK to 2.0.2 with iTunes (from jailbroken 2.0.1)
Everithing working OK with quickpwn until contdown from 30 to 0 with home button pressed. At the end, it exists with the message:
Either you did not follow instructions correctly or your USB hardware is malfunc
tioning. Please use another USB port to connect your iPhone/iPod (NOT through a
USB hub) and consider restarting your computer before trying again.

and the iphone stays in DFU mode. When i restart it, it's still not jailbroken. I can assure you that i followed instructions perfectly, and it is plugged directly to my laptop usb port.

    Any ideas?
  • Tried doing it in another USB port, as suggested?
  • Yep, tried on three ports (they all work perfecly with itunes and with other usb devices).

During the process, i hear the "device unplugged" during the powe+home ten seconds (About second 6) and the "device plugged" sound about 4th second of the 30 seconds home button....

All itunes related processess are down (at least all I know: no itunes, no applemobile*, no ipodservice, no helper....)
  • Well i figured it out by myself. You must kill itunes.exe and ituneshelper.exe, but not any service (most of all applemobiledeviceservice.exe)

    NOW ITS WORKING!!!!
  • Does anybody have a link to download the 2.0.2 custom firmware?
  • All I get is an invalid download. I've downloaded repeatedly and QuickPwn simply fails to launch.
  • I 2G Iphone with 2.0.1 and updated to 2.0.2 with itunes.. Everything works except 3part apps.. like installer and cydia which I dont really need.. Perfect :D
  • this tool is great for small updates, it's much easier than make a ipsw.-file because you loose no pictures, applications,... Congratulations devteam, we love you, we do!!!
  • Hello! I noticed that this a serious problem on 2.0.2 and installer, after the update of installer source and there are very few applications! there are serious problems with the installer and source! Some may 'me know something? thank you!

sorry for english,i use a google translator..im ignorant italian :''''
  • Dev team - many, many thanks for your hard work. We all really appreciate it.

A general, though somewhat obvious question for everyone. I have a 2G iPhone pwned, unlocked (not an AT&T customer) and running pwnage-custom firmware 2.0.1. I don't use 3rd party apps, so here's my question:

Once the 2G iPhone is unlocked, can normal iTunes updates be applied to the phone (i.e. upgrade to Apple's 2.0.2) without having to re-unlock or re-activate? In other words, if I'm willing to lose Cydia etc, can I update the phone to the latest firmware via iTunes without losing my carrier unlock or activation?

Also, on a less important note, will updates/non-pwned firmware restore the Apple boot logo and restore screen?

Again, many thanks to the team and to everyone for any advice.
  • Quick suggestion - you may want to update the readme that is packaged with the QuickPwnGui120.zip. It references QuickPwn command line tool, says to add IPSW to Quickpwn.exe directory, and that it only works on 2.0.1...

There is no quickpwn only quickpwngui as everything is packaged into one executable now.

May save new users some confusion.
  • I have 2g Iphone 8gb... its got 2.0.1 firmware.. its jailbroken.. can i just update to 2.0.2 and it still will be unlocked?
  • If it's unlocked it will remain unlocked even after the update in iTunes, just jailbreak will go.

Then use Quickpwngui to jailbreak again.
  • Will give it ago... now on 2.0.2... will jailbreak it later. can u install cydia and installer together or can it only be 1? anyone know the size that the boot image needs to be
  • U can install both.

If your using a custom boot image then u should probably know what size they are. U could just use stock logos.
  • Re: unlock, I keep seeing warnings about upgrading to the new software and what that could do to the ability to unlock...

    So, a couple of questions
    - In order to unlock, do you need to start with the 2.0 software, upgraded *only* with custom ipsws so that the baseband is still the 2.0 baseband?

    If yes,
    - What happens if one waits for the unlock to happen to buy the iPhone? If the unlock is released in 2 weeks (for example), then the phones will be shipping with 2.0.2 software. Will that then be un-unlockable?

If that is true, then one needs to buy the iPhone now (or had to have bought the iPhone) with the 2.0 software and hold on to it until the unlock gets here (if and when it does, per your quotes) - correct?

Thanks in advance for any clarification you can offer. You guys don't owe us any guarantees, but some information would help greatly for planning purposes!

Thanks for all your wonderful work.
  • I'm guessing your on about the 3G iPhone????????

    It can't be unlocked yet.
  • cheers...dev team...got to work it fine...
jus hv some probs like my app store icons crash n no music is shown in ipod...
i guess...i gt this prob ven i dwnloded sme apps frm installer...
n wen i try uninstalling dey dont show in installed packages but r yet runnin on d iphone...
    ny solution other den restore.....
  • Noob here with a 1st gen iPhone!

Does this tool work for 1st gen? Does even 2.0.2 work in 1st Gen??

    Cheers,

    Greece
  • nevermind. got it!

waiting for the mac version too!
  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Given that the DevTeam has previously warned those who wish to unlock the 3G in the future to avoid baseband upgrades, I assume that the unsigned code expoit is in the main baseband and not the bootroom or bootloader. The bootrom and bootloader are not changed in a BB FW upgrade, so upgrading should not affect exploits present in these, especially since BB downgrades have been demonstrated.

However, given the new 3G baseband updates users may wish to upgrade the BB FW to tackle 3G reception issues. So my questions are as follows:

    1) Is the unsigned code exploit still present in the current revsions of the baseband? If so, is it safe for future-would-be-unlockers to upgrade?

    2) If the exploit is not present in the current revsions of the baseband, would you consider releasing it? This would allow more people (who have not upgraded) to work on the 3G unlock.
  • You guys should use a different numbering system for the pwnage tool -- took me forever to realize that the 2.0.2 was referring to pwnage and not the iphone update! Maybe it should be pwnage 2C or something.
  • when will pwnage tool be out??????
  • Thanks dev team.
Now I have a lil question. As you may know either pwn or cydia puts in a couple of simlinks for wallpaper, apps, etc. to save space. so theoreticcally they can be simlinked in after an update, but does quickpwn make the symlinks again? If not this would be an AMAZING feature for a future update

    Thanks for any input.
If you're confused ssh to var/stash where you wil find the destinations of said links.
  • i have always used custom firmware to update firmwares, i had pwned my iphone on 2.0, and since i used custom firmware, its soo much easy.

What shell i do now to update to 2.0.2 and unlocked, activated & jailbreaked??
  • Hey devteam thanks alot with the downloads and stuff but I was wondering whay you make the tool an application...well the thing is I cannot do it becaseu i need admin to install the freakin software....I was wondering if u can make one that we would not have to....or tell me how to hack toget admin on vista.
  • Just performed the jail break! Simple and easy: thanks a lot!
  • PWNAGE TOOL PLSSSSSSSS, WE WANT CUSTOM FIRMWARE!!!!!!!!
  • I don't get it. Here http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/43652037/someth... You guys say you successfully downgraded the baseband. Now you guys are telling people not to upgrade there 3G because theres a new baseband? Is it no longer possible to downgrade it? What happened?

I'm only concerned because I just traded my unlocked 1st gen iphone for a brand new 3G and an 8gig iphone. I did not realize the 3G had been updated. So if we can not downgrade the baseband does this mean I am stuck with a 3G ipod touch forever?

Sorry if I sound rude or anything. Should I get my old phone back? I couldn't turn it down. I got 2 phones for one.
  • I wouldn't worry too much about it as the Dev folks have warned not to update because of possible issues on every single update Apple has put out, however in their defense there's been no unlock for the 3G yet anyway. Knowing that, you sort of jumped the gun in getting rid of the unlocked iPhone v1...

Technically (though I doubt it) you could be stuck with a 3G iPod Touch forever, but that's only because you got the 3G before there was an unlock for it. If you need 100% assurance that you'll have an unlocked iPhone, the only way to guarantee that is for you to go get your old iPhone back.
  • Hi,

If I have a phone from ATT that is not activated, how to I go about upgrading the phone to the 2.0 firmware and then using QuickPwn ? Itunes won't let me do anything with the phone until I activate it. Is there anything I can do?

    Thanks!
  • turn off the phone, then hold down the home button and turn the phone back on (or insert the usb lead) the phone will boot in normal restore mode, allowing you to update the phone.
  • OK here's my problem I have an Iphone 3G with 2.0.2 (this was done through Itunes) this is a first time I am attempting to Jailbreak it. The jailbreak seems to go through it no problems but when the phone boots it stays at the Apple logo. any ideas on how to fix this
  • Having the same issue.... :(
  • Be patient, the reboot takes for-ever
  • How long roughly? It's been about... 20 - 30 minutes now.
  • The whole jailbreak took no more than 10 mins for my 2g iphone.
    How are you not panicking????

i started panicking when it was on the Apple logo for more than 3 mins lol
  • Sigh... had to do a full restore. Tried it again before I synced up and it worked this time.
  • I gave up and restored tried it again and this time it was over an hour and still nothing. I am going to attempt again with a fresh restore not a restore from my backup. Now if I do get it jailbroken can I install my backup for my contacts and text messages?
  • Hi guys..
new here...can you please let me know if a jailbroken 3G iphone can be used with another SIM card from official carrier?

I have iphone 3G in india and waiting for unlock...hoping to get it soooon...

    Thanks,
  • can provide partition setting parameter?
  • @brandon

Thanks. I think I'm going to hold on to it and have faith in the team. I have the 8gig unlocked already so its not like I don't have a phone.
  • I am from India and I got my iPhone 3G when I was in Germany sometime back which i brought back to India hoping that there will be a solution soon enough to unlock iPhone 3G. But unfortunately there hasn't been any software solution till now. I visit Dev Team's Blog everyday and pray to God that they be successful in unlocking the iPhone 3G.

I pray for Dev Team's good health and their success in unlocking iPhone 3G very soon. May God give you that extra edge, brain and luck to do so. Good luck !!!
  • Get a grip!
  • means wht false_prophet? get a grip about what?
  • 1. "...pray to God that they be successful in unlocking the iPhone 3G"
    2. "I pray for Dev Team's good health and their success in unlocking iPhone 3G"
    3. "May God give you that extra edge"
  • I found that Quickpwn got error message when it is in command prompt....no custom rom can be generated......
  • when i try and run quickpwn it gives me a failed to initialize error, anyone else get this or know what it is ?
  • Same error here using bootcamp win xp sp3. What is the workaround or are we doing something wrong?
  • I get the same error on windows xp sp2 2.0.2 3G never been owned. What're we doing wrong? Also the README says we need to open 3G.bat for 3G, all i see inside the zip folder is quickown which terminates upon opening with the error described by the person above.

    cheerios!
  • Same initialize error. Not sure what differs from our computers to the ones that work. My guess is some OCX or DLL may be missing or unregistered? My computer tested was a fresh XP install just done this morning so I would fear something is missing rather than broken.
  • OK, this was something simple for me. I was missing .NET 1.1/2.0. I installed both of these and QuickPwn now loads the GUI. Now attemping to pwn to 2.0.2...
  • you must install .NET to get rid of this error I have read.
  • I'm confused! Please can anyone explain to me exactly what needs to happen with my unlocked Iphone. I have 1.1.4 and want to upgrade to the latest software. My phone is NOT a 3G. So, i upgrade the software to the latest version with itunes then I use the application to jailbreak, etc...? Then my phone will still be updated with the newest software but will still be unlocked and usuable on TMobile's network. Finally, what was the comment about updating wisely because the newest software update included some 3G updates? Will my phone stop working, blow up, etc...? I await someone's response that is smarter than I.
  • I am curious what this quickpwn tool actually does.. I am quite confused as to the difference between this and the actual pwnage tool.. I own an iPod Touch, would the quickpwn be all I need to use non apple apps and such, custom backgrounds, etc etc. Or is that not what the QP tool is about?

All this pwning makes my head hurt.
  • Thanks for you work!!

Will cracked apps (.app and .ipa) continue working after quickpwned?.
  • Yes, once you find a patched 2.0.2 MobileInstallation file.
  • guys!
upload somebody jailbroken firmware for ipod touch 2.0.2
    thanx!
  • I think Youtube fix is missed?
    Thx for your works..
  • Thanks for your hard work, We all appricate it!!!

  • Download a new copy of the IPSW. I had the same problem with mine, looks like the IPSW was corrupted. Grabbed a new copy and it worked fine.
  • I have a 2G already pwned and neutered with pwn tool 2.01. I think I *ALMOST* understood what will happen if I use this tool, but I'd like someone who already knows this to give me an answer to this question:
    - as far as 2G phones go, this iTunes 2.02 update doesn't touch the baseband? (ie, if the phone is unlocked (via pwn tool) to any network, this 2.02 update doesn't mess with that?
    - If the answer to the above question is "yes", then I fully understand what's going on and will update since quickpwn with give me back the jailbreak and activate the phone.

I hope my doubt is clear and that someone can answer it.

    Oh, one final question:
    - after upgrading to 2.02 and running quickpwn, since the iphone is jailbroken, all 3rd party apps will run ok, right?

Thanks in advance and thanks once again to the dev team!
  • I have gone through the process about 10 times now with QuickPwn, QuickPwnGUI1.0 and this new iteration for my never pwned before iP3G (on 2.02) and the same things keeps happening: I go through the countdowns and it either gives me a USB error or Instructions not followed properly message, or the window just disapears and nothing! Also during the 30 second countdown, windows XP launches 'DFU device detected' window and looks for drivers. I have closed this and ignored it, but still no success! Has anyone had this experience? Any tips?
  • I am so confused.
I have the latest Pwnage Tool. 2.0.2
That is what I used to jailbreak my iphone last week. Now there is this apple update and I know I am not supposed to install it.
Is THIS the new tool that I am supposed to use?
I am so confused.....what am I supposed to do? Treat me like a regular guy, I'm really not a tech head.
  • uhm so I've got a 2g without a contract carrier and firmware version 2.0 and want to upgrade to 2.0.2. will this work? will it save everything except the apps from cydia? getting kinda complicated...:D
    thanks for your help.
  • I have a problem. I updated to 2.2. Everything is OK. Then I downloaded this new version of quickpwn and pwned my ipod touch. It installed cydia and installer. I updated both and cydia is fine. But I intalled community sources on installer and even though sources were installed, I only have like 13 packages. I refreshed my sources and nothing. It worked fine on 2.1. Any ideas?
  • I got a few questions for the dev team or anybody who knows the answers...

    1. I bought a iPhone 3g and pwned it with PwnageTool 2.0.2 to upgrade and jailbrake to 2.0.1 fw. I love having all the applications and being about to SSH is beyond amazing. With the PwnageTool 2.0.2 release there was a note saying that you couldn't just Upgrade, but that you had to do a full Restore in order to load the FW. My question is, when the next PwnageTool, or QuickPwn for Mac comes out is it possible to Update or in some other way keep all my jailbroken apps and custom sounds/wallpaper/themes without having to resort to installing and setting up everything all over again?
    a. Thinking about it, would using iTunes to Update to 2.0.2 and the using QuickPwn work? I don't know if during the Update all my added files would disappear or just be unaccessible until I Pwned it again.

    2. I have seen a few comments about this but no answer, for all of us with the iPhone 3g and reception issues will we not see improved reception unless we upgrade our basebands? I someday wish to be able to unlock my phone and so like I said I used the PwnageTool to update to 2.0.1 and thus avoid the baseband update as the DevTeam suggested, but I want to know if I am missing out on better reception by not updating my baseband? And does the Dev Team plan on releasing software that would allow us to "safely" update our baseband to allow for a future unlock?

    Thanks
  • Great question, that's exactly what I want to know too!
  • Dev Team! I have a question! So if i update to any version besides 2.0, i will not be able to unlock my baseband once you guys find out how? Can i upgrade to 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 and then downgrade to 2.0 and unlock once you come out with it (if)??
  • come on guys .. i loved that you had this brilliant mac support .. now the first version is for windows ? the first version should be for mac !!!
  • YOU GUYS ROCK MY SOCKS!
  • I see no problem in using this tool. worked like a charm
  • Hi
I hope someone can help me, I recently got an iphone3g from the US and I'm in Mexico, obviously the phone is not unlocked so I cannot use it. The release of this says: "It will also activate (not unlock) devices that are being used outside of their intended territories and cannot be activated using iTunes."
I guess my phone is activated with AT&T and here in Mexico I have a simcard from Telcel which is the official carrier for the phone. so, my question is, does that "activate devices being used outsite their intended territories" thing means that I can activate my phone to this other carrier (Telcel) without havng to unlock it?
or does that legend refer to those phones being used in countries where the iphone3g is not being sold?

I actually went to customer service of my carrier and they said they weren't able to activate my phone with them, even though they are the ones who sell the phone in Mexico.

    Thanks for the help.
  • Very simple answer.

If you buy the 3G iphone from ATT it will ONLY work on ATT. There is currently no unlock or anyway for another provider to unlock or activate this 3G iphone on any other network besides ATT. Some people are having luck with a hardware sim unlock.

The pwnage tool only unlocks 1st gen iPhones not 3G.
  • So I am assuming we won't see a update to PwnageTool (for unlocking 1st gen iPhone on 2.0.2) until something is done with the new baseband as far as 3G goes. Is development on the 1st gen iPhone end of things done for the new update and we just waiting on dev in the 3G area or no?
  • Hey i don't know if u made it to unkock the iphone 3g. But just an ideea. I think that the iphone is locked in the store when you buy it. That's why in store activation is needed.
  • can someone tell me what this is? SHA1 = 8e1ed2ce9e7e473d38a9dc7824a384a9ac34d7d0

been trying to pwn my iphone 3g all day and no luck.. it counts down to 15sec then operation 5 comes up?... it goes through the whole operation 6 and 7 then it say its pwned.. but when rebooting, it stays at the apple logo?

ive been doing this all day...please can someone provide some tips? Thanks..
  • SHA1 is a crytpographic hash so you know that no one has tampered or modified the file. You download the file, run a hash program against it and make sure the output matches the SHA1 hash listed on the web site. That way you know someone didn't give you bogus file(malware, virus, etc.)
  • sorry, im really new at this... so where do i get it program to see if it matches? thanks for the reply btw =)
  • so.. the purpose of quickpwn is so that later, people can install custom firmwares later. but in order to do so they will have to use an actual pwnage client, which pwns your phone anyway. i don't understand the point, especially if it does not install cydia or (still buggy, 2nd rate) installer.
dont switch alliances on me dev team...mac users have gotten the shaft long enough.
  • With the command line tool it's easy enough to remove the new image references.
With the GUI tool it's not. If I delete the images then I don't have a boot or restore graphic - the screen is just blank.

How can I tell the GUI version I want to keep my OEM images?
  • Shame on me. I was using an older version.
  • Comment removed.

  • MAC PLEASE !!
    :D
  • Man I wish the Dev Team got 1.1.4 and 2.0 (screw app store) and made THEIR OWN custom FW for the iPhone and iTouch
  • What exactly makes 'PWN', what kind of changes? Is this change permanent?
  • Hm, i found it. "This term (in relation to this software) refers to the patching of the stock bootloader so that it will allow the execution of unsigned code and circumvent code-signing checks. “Pwnage” only needs to be performed once to allow the additional features on the iPhone.".

Can i use some tool to jailbreak 2.0.2, but without PWNing? It's not my iPhone, i don't want to make any permanent changes...
  • Can I use Quickpwn to unlock a 3G running 2.0.2 to use a different SIM (Phone Number) from the same carrier...

So an ATT device using a different ATT SIM card?

    -Ramble
  • NO UNLOCK OF ANY 3G PHONE IS POSSIBLE. Not via software. You need to buy a special hardware hack.

Reread the iPhone-Dev teams post above.
  • Yeah right...
Like the Dev team said before Geohot made it in 24 hours...

Looks like Dev Team works hard, but aren`t that smart...
  • Well they the first to unlock the 2G IPhone..
If you think you smarter then the Dev Team then UnLock the 3G IPhone for us Carlos!.

    Cheers.
  • Geohot and a few others were the first to unlock the iPhone using a hardware method. and it took a lot longer than 24 hours...
  • You should be able to shouldn't you.

Because I remember when there was no unlock for iPhone, I jailbroke it and then could use any O2 sim which is the official contract.

You might as well try it, jailbreak your 3G and insert your AT&T sim and see what happens. Whats the worst that can happen??

Btw plz dnt blame me if u mess up ur 3G :-)
  • There's no unlock necessary if you're staying with the same carrier, i know this for a fact since I'm doing this as we speak. My work had bought me an iphone with a new plan, since I'm already an AT&T customer i simply swapped sim cards without any modifications to the phone software or hardware wise. The only draw back to this is that I can not use the visual voice mail service
  • Ok! please help! i know im pathetic but i need to know if i have to buy firmware 2.0 from itunes to jailbreak 2.0.2 on my ipod touch if i download the firmware from the internet for free and use it in quickpwn. i am currrently running on 1.1.4. and help would be great! thanks! juat a yes or a no.
  • Yes, if you want to keep everything legal. but downloading the software directly and using it to restore in itunes (shift/option click the restore button and choose the firmware) will upgrade the ipod touch to 2.0.2 with all the features you would have if youd purchased it.
  • u are not suppose to buy. just download for free.
  • Hi, i tried it on vista - worked. But quickpwn210 crashes on my 2 xp systems at home. The crash happens right after the output line file: nor/img3nor - any ideas?
  • I have xp professional sp2, and I have the same problem!
  • I have the same problem
  • DEAR TEAM TEAM
PLS REPLY TO OUR QUESTION, I WONT UPDATE MY PWNED 2.0.1 FIRMWARE TO 2.0.2 UNTIL U GUYS DONT COME WITH A PROPER JAILBREAK + UNLOCK. I HAVE A 2G IPHONE.

PLS MAKE A UPDATE to fix baseband.........................

and stop making these quick pwns, pwnage tool is better.
  • I've tried it on my gen 1.0 16GB iphone and it worked just fine :)
  • BIG PROBLEM HERE.

I was on firmware 1.1.4. Upgraded to 2.0.2 in Itunes then QuickPwn it.

The problem is it is not seeing any Cellular Network. I have changed SIM to other carriers and still doesn't work. I am unable to make any calls. Please help. I have tried restoring in Itunes to no avail. my email is geeklordz@yahoo.com
  • Did the jailbreak on my 3G... it says it was done, but its been sitting at the apple logo now... even vibrated a couple times for the last 5 minutes. Any reason it would do this?
  • Same as a few guys above me..

does not work with parallels XP on a MAC. The Dos box opens but when it closes again the software does not proceed.

I am not going to put a lot of effort in it and will be waiting for the mac version.
  • FYI: Don't do this on a mac in parallels unless parallels is setup to capture all USB devices.

When it reboots the first time, the mac side will capture it.

Either setup parallels to capture all usb devices or use a real windows machine.

Note: if you accidentally did this already, when it hangs after the second 100% mark - just disconnect the phone and hold the power and home buttons down.

It'll eventually reboot and you can try again. Nothing at that point seems to have been effected (this is on a 2.0.2 iPhone 3G)
  • Hey Jimmy,

I'm trying to use Parallels as well. No problem with the USB capture, but I can't get QuickPwn to even launch. I've downloaded over and over via Firefox in parallels and in the Mac side, nothing works. How'd you get a valid copy of QuickPwn to the Parallels partition?
  • Bricked my new 3G. Awesome! Just sits at the apple logo now. Any ideas? I was already running 2.0.2 firmware and just did the quickown.
  • Been about 30 - 40 minutes now sitting at the apple logo. Itunes also has the spinning wheel for quite some time.
  • try to put in dfu mode and open itunes when u hear windows recognize the device. shift click restore and look for the ispw file, restore and u r unbricked.
  • Again we thank u so much for your really good work but please try to unlock the 3G. Thanks again for everything u r doing and will do.
  • Thanks, i works well with iphone 2G!
I just was needed to run bootloader to unlock my iphone after upgrade.
    You are fantastic! Thanks!!!!!!
  • I don't remeber me asking anyone questions when I was a noob, nowadays thousands of forums filled with the same questions.

Back in the 1.1.2 it was nowhere as simple as know lol
  • hey guys, all these programs are working pretty well with 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 but in both cases my simcard is not working, plz helpppppppppppppppppppp....
  • thank you guys
  • After a successful jailbreak using QuickPwn, I neither have Cydia nor Preferences. Both were hidden within BossPrefs. But since apps installed through Cydia are lost in the update to 2.0.2, I cannot unhide Cydia. And I cannot unhide Preferences, since that seems to require BossPrefs of Poof!...

Maybe a future version of QuickPwn could take care of this happening?
  • Hello. I just jailbreaked my iPhone 3g using the QuickPwn. Everything is working fine, exept 2 things:

*My appstore apps that i've downloaded before the jailbreak is not working anymore. They pop up for like 3 sec and then quickly closes again. I've tried with deleting them in itunes etc but still got the same problem. Any ideas? Really like some apps from the appstore that I really like to have back.

*In iTunes it says that 4,9 gig (the volume of media etc I had on my iPhone BEFORE the jailbreak) is occupied. And I have NO media att all on it and just a couple of aps from Cydia.

Anyone that can save my day? Cheers
  • Before iPhone came out, we have been promised and we have expected a quality product and good service. After the device saw daylight, we have been assured that all the issues will be taken care of. Now, after a second generation of the iPhone, many months later all we get is terrible service, low product quality and no explanation, no excuse, no credit.

Please, post your comments about your iPhone & iphone 3G experience. Let's hope that we can finally attract enough attention to get Apple to do what they promised!

  • Say I have an 8Gig iPod touch...How do I do this...step by step.
  • I Already upgrade my iPhone 2G to 2.0.2v, then I use QuickPwn to jailbreak and unlock it. but right now the iPhone is jailbreaked, but doesn't work with my carrier, Telcel. Do I have somethings else to do?
    thanks
  • Hi Jose,

    was your iPhone pwned before?

I just updated my 2G do 2.02 without any problems, indeed, this seems like magic.
Installed the update normally via itunes, then used quickpwn and followed the instructions. Fantastic stuff!
  • Hello José, This program only jailbreaks but does not unblock. What you can do, as has been said in here, is to check Cydia when jailbreaking with quickpwn and use it in your iPhone to look for BootNeuter (you can use wireless to download). Download it and then BootNeuter will unblock your iphone following its steps (check "neuter" and "unlock" and then press "flash". It may ask you to upgrade the software before. Do it, no problem. Then repeat neuter and unblock. . I use Telcel and had no problem unlocking it.

    Good luck.
  • get bootneuter from cydia and neuter/unlock your baseband
  • Brilliant tool. Seems to work like black magic. Great job, guys!
  • Btw just like to give a warning to people who use Installer! Its really as the name says BETA.
You can not uninstall programs once they are installed. I had to ftp to the phone to remove the programs manually.
Also it's very very slow and buggy. I reflahsed and removed the Installer.

Cyndia works like a charm though!

ps. Still dont know how come i can use firmware 2.01 on my 2.0 to jailbreak but it works for some strange reason :)
If Dev-team could take a moment and explain i would be a happy bunny :D
  • pss. Thanks allot for your awsome work dev-team.
  • I.m in a bit of a dilema guys. I f I update without the basband alteration (ie. not hte apple update to 2.0.2) does that mean I will not get the fix for reception problems installed ?
Might be a dumb question but I thought that that reception problem may be in the base band fix?
  • i keep getting the application error message when i click on the pineapple to launch quickpwn...........ple help me!!!
  • QuickPWN worked well for my 2G iphone. In have one question though... the modem firmware shows up as 04.05.04_G, but I read that 2.02 updated the modem firmware to 02.08.01. What's going here?
  • The modem firmware update is on the 3G only.
  • Hi guys.

As always, wonderful, fast and efficient work. Some feedback on QuickPwn (current version) for Windows.

On this particular Vista x64 system, when you run the tool, you'll end up in a situation like this:

    file: tar (0755), size = 412784
    file: nvram (0644), size = 34048
    file: display (0755), size = 13936
    file: fstab (0644), size = 63
    file: services.patch (0644), size = 589
    directory: bundles (0755)
    directory: mnt (0755)
    symlink: System (0777) -> /mnt/System
    symlink: usr (0777) -> /mnt/usr
    directory: dev (0755)
    file: patch (0755), size = 109520
    file: bspatch (0755), size = 13760
    file: gzip (0755), size = 99328
    directory: nor (0755)
file: nor/img3nor (0755), size = 13616 <-- at this point, execution of the exe fails and causes a dump to /Users/Local/Temp/...

The testing environment was 3G iPhone, current 2.0.2 "stock" firmware, Vista x64, trying to parse the Apple:

    iPhone1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks guys!

    z

NB: Seems to be a non-isolated incident also, with others in this thread reporting it across different OS's (XP SP2 etc).
  • QuickPWN worked well for my 2G iphone. In have one question though... the modem firmware shows up as 04.05.04_G, but I read that 2.02 updated the modem firmware to 02.08.01. What's going here?
  • Can anyone please help me out, I have searched my computer over and over and I can not find this file that I am told to look for, 2.0.1. All I have is 2.0. Is there a way someone can email it to me or post a link. Thanks in advance for the help.

I had to move from my macbookpro to a windows box to do this. Running XP SP2 (have another on SP3) Intel dual core 2.3 ghz
  • the quickpwn worked perfectly and i now have 2.0.2 jailbroken however whenever i have 3g on i cant make/receive calls but can when 3g is off (only edge)... anyone know why this would be happening
  • Quick question. Anyone having an issue with the phone running really hot after jailbreaking? Just curious...

  • Thanks Dev Team - works a treat.

    C:\Users\Name\Appdata\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

    7) Esperen un rato

  • Im new to jailbreaking my iphone 3g. I went through using pwnagetool but when it told me to pick a firmware it gave me only 2.0.1. I have 16gb iphone 3g with firmware 2.0.2. Is that normal or am i doing something wrong? Thanks.
  • If you are using QuickPwnGUI You have to browse to where your 2.0.2 firmware is located - this is assuming iTunes downloaded it for you

    usually it is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\"your login"\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

Explorer hides some of these directories so you may have to show hidden and system files.
  • Please o great and honorable dev team please i beg of you show us apple guys some love... i mean windows sucks! CAMAN DAWG. Also add one of those handy donate now buttons so i can show my appreciation!

Does anyone know why I have modem firmware 04.05.04_G Is that expected?
  • i got same problem. this 2 things yahoo mail n youtube. hope u take a note.

  • Show some love for the mac boyz aye? were dyin over here!
  • so this works for the 8gb iphone with 2.0.2 version right?
  • hey guys, can i restore a 2.01 backup to a PWNd 2.02? i have a lot of saved games, apps cydia installers and i honestly don't want to do them all over again..
  • ARG, I can't get it to work! I have updated to 2.0.2, restored it ( it did it on its own while I watch olympics). When I run it, I follow all the instructions, and get to the count down. After the count down finishes, it just exits out. If I put the phone in DFU mode before running, It dose something, but then halts while waiting for the phone to shut down...when it already is. This is what I get when I have it in DFU mode before starting. If it is not on DFU mode, after the count down the program exits out.

Congratulations! You have successfully entered DFU mode. Please wait while your
iPhone/iPod is being prepared to accept custom IPSWs...

  • Yeah... I was getting that too. My dumb arse downloaded the 3G firmware instead of the 2G firmware for my phone.

Make sure you've got the correct .ipsw
  • I do have a 3G iPhone. I let iTunes download it for me and update the phone then. Maby I should re-download it just for shiat and giggles.
  • Redownloaded it, still wont work.... I just want my apps back... :(

I have done everything the tool told me to do. What am I missing?!
  • It could be possible that your phone isn't getting in DFU mode. With my earlier post, I realized that I left out that key note when I saw the exact messages as you.

    I downloaded the wrong .ipsw
    Didn't get into DFU mode.

When running the QuickPWN and you see the INITAL countdown, this is the countdown to get you ready. THEN the next 5 seconds you are holding the power button in.

    hope this helps
  • Dev Team -- Nice work. Thanks !
  • Folks, website http://www.unlockiphone20.com/ claims to be able to unlock 3G iphones. Are those guys just a bunch of losers trying to sell some software ??
  • Worked perfectly on my touch.
  • So is it safe to resync the iphone with itunes after jailbreak is done.....i am not seeing alot of my custome ringtones....
  • The early releases are great. I appreciate that the Mac GUI version takes time. Please consider releasing a Mac command-line version, though, as to not leave Mac users that far behind...
  • Hi All,

Big thx to the team. You should be renamed to the A-Team.

Anywayz, it seems like a lot if questions are risen, bugs, wackhacks, problems, and who knows what else.

I do have a 2g iphone at 1.1.3, not sure though how it is broken.

Now, given this incredibly long list of questions that most havent got any answers, it seems that I am quite reluctant in experimenting with it, I dont want to be stripped off my BabePhone. I cant even begin to imagine not having my phone for some dumb thing I might do while applying PWN.

So, in my poor opinion, I would strongly & firmly suggest that a BabyStep list of things to do and what may come up to be posted in a "sticky" way in order for everyone to consult along with a steady link page. I do guess that PWN is not a stable process, since so many questions rise up, however, they cant be that many defects...anyway, u know better.

By the way, what does PWN mean? Any special way to pronounce it??

    Cheerios

    P.
  • 3g network problem
  • Thanks once again Dev Team!

Only you guys can make this phone worth it!
  • Right.. But if I use QuickPwn now, with 2.0.2, then it will not, unlike PwngTool, give me the opportunity to change the size of the partition and such, right?
  • That is true. You can use the QuickPwnGui tool all the way until it tells you turn the phone off without fear of hurting anything:

To summarize you have to do the following steps:

    1. Pick your model (Gen 1, 3G, Touch)
    2. Browse to your firmware (needs to match what is installed on phone)
    3. Configure (options to install Cydia, Installer, Pwnage Pineapple logo) 3 items - just yes or no
    4. Then GO

After this the CLI pops up and tells you how to get into DFU mode, counts down steps and when the device reboots you have a jailbroken phone with all your stuff intact.
  • Again, BRAVO! very very easy. it only took me once. Amazing job
  • i want a mac version!!!!!!!!!!
  • Works great, thanks.
