    Hi Guys, First of all BIG THANKS to the Dev-Team for their work.
    So maybe someone can help me with this issue..

    I have the 2.0 firmware running my 1st gen Iphone. I used Windows. It actually works pretty much fine, but seems to have some problems. It gets really slow somtimes, can't find EDGE settings, slow typing at SMS, looses connection to WIFI (it is possible that the problem is at my home network).

    Right now I have the custom firmware, which was uploaded as one of the "first ones". It has the apple logo when booting, not the pineapple.

    So I was actually thinking about trying with another custom firmware, created with the newer version of Pwnage tool. Could somebody give me a link to one?
    The other question would be the way reinstalling the firmware. Shall I just do the Shift+Recover with iTunes or do the whole process again?
    Some help would be appreciated.

    Big Thanks to the Dev-Team. You are doing awesome hacking activities. All we are watching your hands. Yes it is good work but need some improvements I think.
    About new 2.0.1 tool. I have already tried it with the new pwnage tool but nothing change. When you open the phone, all applications run pretty good but after some use of phone features and apps, phone is becoming deadly slow. Bad reception of phone, slow opening apps, sometimes lock, lag. And also edge and wifi is not work as well as you mention. And also I like to have mention that updating pre-intalled tools of Cydia defect the AppStore apps. They become unwork. This is my last experience.
    If we are doing something wrong or all things happen to all 2.0 user. We like to have or we hope new version of jailbreaking and unlocking.

    I'm having the same trouble with my jailbroken iphone v2 running 2.1 firmware. Bad reception, slow opening of applications, and an overall heavy feeling. I've searched the net and TONS of iphone 2.0 users are having this issue. Can't seem to find a fix. Do we need to go back to 1.14 firmware?

    You guys are doing a great job! Hoping to find an answer to this of be pointed in the right direction.

    Don't we all. Please DON'T give the project to cmw again. He was just a failure. If he didn't announce things so early, if he didn't accept donations, and if he didn't release too early he would have been fine.

    it works with windows dumbass. thats how i updated mine. all you need is a pwned iphone and a copy of the custom 2.0 firmware from pirate bay.

    iPhone 2.0 Upgrade Steps for 2G iPhones ACCIDENTALLY Upgraded to 2.0 already.

    Follow and check all steps and all will work.

    === Pre-upgrade Checks ===
    1. Restore your iPhone with the Original & Official Apple iphone 2.0 software.
    2. Phone will be "emergency" only status.

    === Device Support Folder === (2.0.1 should solve this but check it anyway :) )
    1. Open Finder
    2. Goto "Mac HD"
    3. Goto "Library" and then to "Itunes"
    4. If "Device Support" EXISTS - open folder and delete everything in there.
    5. If "Device Support" folder doesn't exist - create a new folder called "Device Support"

    === Download Bootloaders ===
    1. You need both 3.9 and 4.6 (available via 100s of links on this page - particularly at the top)

    === Upgrade Steps ===
    1. Open up the pwned 2.0
    2. Goto EXPERT MODE - if you use simple mode you will get errors 6, 20, 1600, 1601 etc and it will NOT work
    3. Select the 2.0 firmware and also select relevant *.bins
    4. When get to main menu screen, go into Bootnetuer and select "Update Bootloader" and select "4.6"
    5. Go back to main menu and enter General Settings --> select Enable Baseband Update
    6. Then build the firmware and save it to your desktop
    7. Once the firmware is built, pwned will ask you to plug in your iphone via USB.
    8. It will then step you through the process of enter DFU mode
    9. Once this is complete it will ask you to boot up itunes (when you plugged you phone in it may have already loaded)
    10. Hold down ALT (on MAC) and select the firmware on your desktop
    11. iPhone will update - LEAVE IT for the entire process.
    12. It should install and all will work :)

    === If DFU Fails ===
    1. Plug iPhone into USB & then TURN OFF (connected obviously :P)
    2. Hold the power and home buttons at the same time for 10 secs
    3. Release power button and continue holding home button
    4. iTunes will recognize the phone in "Restore Mode"
    5. Hit "Option/ALT" key and click restore.
    6. Select the firmware on your desktop
    7. Await 2.0 love (feel free to drink a beer at this point)

    Hope this is all clear enough for everyone :)

    ... and if BootNeuter stays forever on "Flashing Baseband" just don't panic and let it do it's job: it took 20+ minutes, here, to accomplish the task

    Devs: in Pwnage Tool 2.0.2... add a 0 to that 2, please! ;-)

    the phone shut down while "flashing baseband", now i'm stuck in that mode. i get the pineapple icon instead of the apple when it turns on... and it changes to the steve jobs cartoon and stays there... is it dead? please help...

    I had an interesting situation where the phone in DFU would fail restore with the custom ipsw (errror 1600) , but when in normal restore mode (iTunes /cable picture) it successfully loaded the firmware and flashed the baseband.

    For a time there I thought I had a brick.. :-)

    Hi frederick. I got the apps to download but it quits automatically (any apps wont load). Do you have this problem too or you can run free apps on your phone without any problems.. Please let me know if anyone else is having this problem and knows how to fix it Thanks!

    Problem solved.! just erase every app coming from iTunes u previously boughtplus the apps on ur iTunes .then dl all ur apps again and that should work. Wipe out all apps on iPhone and on iTunes

    Same here.
    All I can see when I touch the cydia icon is the empty window which goes away within 2-3sec.
    Only cydia.
    It just doesn't open no matter what..

    My hardware is ipod touch 16G.
    There was no error message when I ran the tool, I believe.

    No idea what's going on but noticed one thing.
    I can't download any of cydia packages using the tool. It just says 'FAIL'.
    I have no idea if it's relevant, but it seems it's not the way it's supposed to be.

    Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

    Seems like people here are not seeing the problem I had, but just in case..

    If you are seeing the same problem I described and also using Zipeg to unzip
    the tool, just stop using it.

    ...And I assume it has nothing to do with it, but I turned off ClamXav also...

    Just unzip PwnageTool_2.0.1.zip from right-click>archive utility if you haven't
    tried that.

    If your troble is really the same as mine, there's a pretty good chance I guess.

    You could check if it works by trying to download cydia packages using the tool.

    In my case, it didn't say 'FAIL' anymore and I could see the difference
    in that way without trying all the restoring procedure.

    the easiest way is to when you download the bins put them in you documents folder thats were pwnage looks for them so you wont even have any red hud's

    I am having a 1st generation iPhone in 1.14 trying to upgrade to 2.0 downloaded firmawarefrom Apple web build 5A347. downoaded PwnageTool selected old iPhone in the 1st screen getting error 'no IPSW file found' so switched to 'expert mode' and manually selected the IPSW file getting error ' wrong software bundle' any help is highly appreciated.

    I just want to say thank you. I have spent hours on this after it wouldn't upgrade properly. It was driving me nuts. I appreciate you took the time so I could get this done properly. We will never meet and people who will never get to say thank you will use this and it makes their lives easier and better.

    i am so lost, i am using vista and i've been downloading the pwnage tool and all i get is acompressed folder. then when i try to download the x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw from users.on.net and all i get is code.

    can anyone help me by giving simple step by step instructions

    it did not work? where is the firmware? is it the: iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw file? if yes - this is not selectable if i start the itune - itunes tells me this is not a itune mediathek... - what sould i do?

    I had an issue on my 3g where the phone wouldnt detect a signal...
    had a flat signal bar, and no carrier text or connection icon
    wifi and gps worked ok
    app store worked and everything else worked ok... anyone have any ideas?

    had same issue when I tried using expert mode...just did simple mode and its fixed now (after a re-restore) until I can figure out what happened.

    Do you have an official carrier?
    This software does not unlock the phone, it just jailbreaks and activates it.
    So, if you are not under an official carrier... you'll have to wait a little longer

    I was using the official carrier...like I said, im sure it had something to do with a wrong setting in expert mode. Doing the simple mode fixed it.

    Somebody's reply to me in the previous post helped... So here's me helping you.

    In expert mode, uncheck activate phone.

    Worked for me to get signal and everything works... with the exception of voicemail! Haven't figured that one out yet. Anyone?

    Still no windows??? Dude this firmware haz barley been out for 1 week. You are going to have to wait alot longer then that. Or you culd try that method below that will brick your phone for you.

    Hmm, what if you pwned the phone earlier with pwnage tool 1?

    I used pwnagetool 2 last night solely to make the firmware and it worked fine.

    Should I re-pwn it now or what does sparkle appcast url "do"?

    Answer: No. If it worked the first time there is not need. I would wait until they support the installer app, before you try it again. I wish that I had waited, period.

    yeah at first i was a bit gutted installer wasn't there, but then if there's not really any apps that work for it yet then what's the point. I've had fun with the app store and look forward to when some free things come out via installer or something similar :-)

    You don't have to re-pwn to get original icons - simply build a new firmware and de-select custom icons.

    I'll try. Seems that the interface there only lets me _select_ one thing at a time. Either jailbreak or unlock or custom icons... Strange. ... Ah. Doubleclicking those icons helps. Was kinda unclear to me at first. Now building... Thx.

    Hey devteam, any chance of adding the Mail.app fix to pwnage? Heaps of people who restore from backup get the issue where the Mail dir has the wrong ownership. Fix is pretty simple (no need to do a full restore):

    Jjpeacha- link to pwnagetool_1.1 doesnt work for me. my phone is stuck in recovery and im getting errors no matter what i do. i wanted to go back and try restoring off pwnage 1 but i cant find it anywhere. HELP!?

    Had the same problem, was stuck in the recovery loop. I then used another Mac to restore. First I got the "cannot restore, error 6" but after leaving it alone (USB connected) for about 5 minutes it came back to life by itself.
    Thought I had a brick but I am back to square one now.

    It might be better. I do not doubt it. But Installer has a cool feature, which is that you can edit the source list and add new sources. Because of the absence of Installer I lost one of the best apps that I ever had on the iPhone: Fring. I guess they will release it on the App Store, or maybe I should say that I hope so...

    All Apps will be automaticly released at CYDIA ... because 1 IMPORTANT thing, because it has been converted to 2.0, in other words installer is more to say now: it was for *1 versions, plus all new sources are added automatically on Cydia .... eitherway Fring will likely be uploaded when done I imagine for Free on AppsStore **all SOCIAL NETWORKING are Free**

    No it's not. It's much better than VNCLITE. It's based on the same code, but the way the mouse reacts and handling multiple screens is done right in TOUCHPAD. I can't wait for it to come back to 2.0.

    Is it possible to jailbreak and UNLOCK my iPhone 2G as an AT&T customer? If so, how do I activate?

    If I can do this can I be connected to AT&T's signal and if another GSM signal (T-Mobile) is detected switch to that signal? Would switching signals be something that would happen automatically (phone would search for strongest)?

    Yes, it is possible to jailbreak and unlock your phone as an AT&T customer.

    As for the rest of your comment- you should obviously do more research on how cell phones work because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about regarding picking up other signals and switching to them and whatnot. If you somehow screw up you're not going to get much sympathy.

    By your question, I think that you don't grasp what unlocking is. I think that this would not work, nor would it be advisable if it did work.

    HELLO.....? Somebody help me out! ! ! ! !

    I am trying to accomplish the following with my iPhone 2G:
    - jailbroken and UNLOCKED while staying with AT&T
    - Able to use same SIM for AT&T and drift to other GSM signals (auto/manual) *
    - Able to use different SIM overseas

    * note: is this what unlocking a phone can do in this case?

    Could someone please help with these follow-up questions:
    So, if I use BootNeuter (as above) while using my original AT&T SIM, my phone will work on all GSM carriers as it detects them?
    Also what is the difference between choosing 3.9 and 4.6 in the Expert mode? What do they do?

    No it won't. Unless you have a SIM for each carrier and PAY for a plan in each carrier. Unlocking is only good to NOT use ATT or use a SIM oversees with something else that you buy there.

    Cool,
    When you released 2.0 and it didn't even start up on my MBP, I laughed at your decision to wait to release a highly polished app.
    However, I was able to pwn successfully using my g4 server.

    But the announcement of this maintenance release taking care of the major problems people have been having seals your reputation as a great team.

    I also updated to 2.0 with iTunes 7.7. Make sure iTunes Helper has quit and that you have it in DFU mode. Its hard to get the timing of holding the buttons right. I watched a video on youtube to perfect it.

    I got the same problem... No WIFI !!! It keeps looking for networks while my other iPhone finds them within a few seconds. This iPhone was unlocked using zyphone, restored to original 2.0, then used pwnagetool.
    Don't know what to do now??? Where to look for support?? This blog is so crowded that nobody reads our replies I guess.

    before upgrade the phone was a brick. now everything works, except WIFI. it keeps searching for a network over and over. even touching "others" and setting it up manually, doesn't work.

    exact same problem.. My 1.1.4 worked perfectly until i downloaded itunes 7.7 an synced with it...first my wi-fi went and then it started rebooting every five seconds...upgrading to 2.0 fixed the other problem but still no wi-fi.. need help!!

    I pwned my 2g iPhone but I'm not familiar with cydia. I used ziphone to unluck before and I'm used to the installer.

    I used the simple mode in pwnage tool, it worked great. My only question is:

    There are alot of pre-installed apps in cydia. What are those? Can I remove them safely? I don't even understand what most of them are.

    actually it makes cydia better, because when something small changes, it downloads a new SMALL package, instead of a huge replacement BSD subsystem package. It's basically just a hell of a lot better designed.

    All apps that are available on 2.0 are on Cydia. Installer just hasn't been written for 2.0 yet, and won't have any more programs than Cydia does, so pester the actual app writers to update to 2.0

    No, the apps haven't been written for 2.0 - it's got nothing to do with Installer. in fact installer hasn't been re-written for 2.0 yet either - which is why you're moaning! So use Cydia, all the apps that are available for 2.0 will gradually appear there, including MxTube etc

    As far as i know the Dev team only release Pwnage tool for MAC.
    So please stop complaining about a windows version , it won't be arriving any time soon.
    The way i see it you have 3 choices:
    1)Wait 3 or 4 weeks and MAYBE you get a windows version.
    2)Ask a smarter and happier friend who has a mac to Pwnage your phone
    3)And my favorite one... BY A FREAKING MAC it's better, cooler and more enjoyable than any pc.

    Any way there is so many windows users complaining that we can hardly read the blog.

    You forgot the best option : installing Leopard on pc hardware which is a ... hackintosh
    I pwaned my phone with this method and it worked just perfectly

    On a side note, guys the need for a 2.0.1 on the same day as the original tool proves only one thing : you do need a lot of testers :D

    I'm definitely in DFU mode with a black screen and every time I go into iTunes and select option and grab the custom firmware I get error 1600 or 1601. I'm going to a T-Mobile store to buy a new phone right now because I need a phone for tomorrow and this does not work. 2.0 and 2.0.1. HELP

    hi ron, this reply may a little late for you...but I had the same issue and resolved it by doing the following:

    Once I was in DFU mode I could not kick out of it.
    1) Download v1.1.4 firmware and use Ziphone to jailbreak/activate/unlock your iphone (link to firmware is in Ziphone help).
    2) When completed, click on Advanced Features in ZiPhone and selecr "Recovery Mode" (*NOT *DFU Mode)
    3) Use SHIFT+RESTORE from Itunes with your custom 2.0 Firmware.

    Should be all fine after that.

    Just build up some ikea furiture and no prob at all.
    Altough i press all the buttons the software tells me, alwways, "fail to enter dfu".
    No problem for a free software, but after all the things I read about "we well release when its easy to use bla bla" I am really pissed. restoring to normal 2.0 now.
    And DAMN appe for this totally unusable autocorrection shit that you cannot turn off. What a pice of crap.

    And just what else is in that hacked IPSW downloaded from a questionable site? the base IPSW is copyright Apple and that's why you download it yourself. Or let iTunes download it for you. And you have no ability to modify the software load change the boot loader, and so on. So in addition to the legal issue, there is a stability issue since you could have really hacked software in the 'cracked" software you downloaded. Like uploading a picture every few seconds to the web, with you location of course. Easier for the law enforcement guys who planted the software to find you? Of course if you are not paranoid in the least bit, maybe its just fine ...

    I successfully unlocked a 1gen iPhone. I tried to go from 1.1.2 to 2.0, but that was not a good idea. The tool did not recognize a DFU mode iPhone for some reason. It wrote, that you do not need to pwn again, so I stopped rushing and did it one step at a time. After I upgraded to 1.1.4 and pwned, i Build a new 2.0 and the 2.0 bootneuter worked without a problem.

    My congratulations to the iPhone Team, for this safe and secure way to deal with the locked phones. I am quite amazed, about your ability to coordinate yourself over the globe, stay focused and deliver not only working tools, but also have support. All that, without ever meeting each other. Why you do not accept donations, is really beyond me. :-D Cheers!

    Yes, you teased a little bit, just before you released it, maybe too much. On the other hand, I do not think anyone has any right to tell you what to do and what not to do. To see the progress in videos, once one realized, that evt. one would need to wait and be patient, was nice. I do not understand hacking in any way, but it was quite exciting.

    PwnageTool 2.0 worked great on my iphone with one caveat. For some reason, my speaker does not work, and the iphone gets all buggy if I do not have headphones plugged in. I have tried everything from cleaning out the headphone jack, to restarting, to resetting General settings, and repeatedly plugging and replugging headphones and non-standard headphones. No luck! I upgraded from 1.1.1. Please help!

    i had a 1st gen iphone that i originally had unlocked/jailbroken using ziphone on 1.1.4. i went to upload the 2.0 firmware through itunes (followed this tutorial: http://www.hackthatphone.com/20/pwnagetool_2_1s...), but i got a 1604 error when itunes was trying to restore firmware. i tried to download 2.0.1 pwnage, but i'm still getting the 1604 error!!! been spending over 2 hours trying to get this to work. what can i do?!

    this tool has bricked my iphone so far. I've been trying to fix it for nearly 7 hours now. i've tried downgrading to itunes 7.5 and reinstalling 1.1.4, but instead of the '1604' error i get a '20' error. ziphone doesn't recognize the iphone, pwnage gives me right back to the beginning with the 1604 error and i have no idea what else to do!
    this is extremely frustrating as ziphone worked perfectly. my phone is now in a constant state of showing the itunes icon and the usb connector (not the 30pin connector).

    SOMEONE PLEASE RESPOND SO I CAN FIX MY IPHONE FROM USING THIS APP!!!!

    after one day getting the 1604 error every time I wanted to restore the iphone, I fixed it installing Itunes 7.5 in my virtual windows(vmware over macos x), the first time i tried to restore didn't work (error 5 I think) but then I tried to restore letting itunes download the firmware and it worked. The iphone was in DFU mode.

    i did that on a windows machine and it didn't work, any other way out of this one yet? i think i'm stuck in the baseband flash... as iphoneinterest stated "It is possible you have wiped your baseband and now there is invalid calibration data in your device tree. This is so far unrecoverable."

    I have pawned my iphone 1G succesfully and now I'm missing my sms and all my programms, which were installed with the installer.app in frimware 1.1.4... I think that Itunes automaticyl has backuped my files..!?? but were can i find them???

    Many apps that were 1.1.4 compliant are not compatible with 2.0. This is no different than apps that were only compatible with 1.1, or 1.2, 1.3, 1.4.

    Hey windows guys (like me :-D) go to http:/iphone.embondeiro.com and get the pwaned 2.0 custom firmware (already with cydia) and restore it using iTunes. Simple as that!!!!! Worked like a charm for me!!

    How much time do I have to wait for getting Window version..
    I know that there are some of Apple users;however, I think that Window users are also itouch, or iphone users,too..

    yes you can skip this step...the custom firmware contains the bootneuter app which runs after your restore the firmware so it unlocks your 2g device.

    you can use windows + itunes once you have the custom 2.0 firmware created by Pwnage 2.0.1 on a mac.

    Yeah man, c'mon! If you start stealing games even at 10 bucks, then that's really going to cheese off developers. No one likes to work for free, and STILL get harassed by gamers demanding bugfixes etc, when they didn't even pay in the first place!
    I bought Monkeyball as soon as it rolled off the AppStore, and will be happy to go official on the 2.0 firmware. I only want this PwnageTool to unlock my 1st gen iPhone so that I can use my own sim card.

    That's pretty irresponsible. Yes, the kernel patch for disabling code-signing disables FairPlay as well. But the reason it was done was NOT so you can pirate apps but run 'homebrew' and other unofficial software going through the giant fist that is Apple.

    If there is wide-spread piracy, Apple will make it an EVEN HIGHER priority to close holes that the dev team is using and will make it harder for the dev team to crack the next firmware release.

    So don't be an idiot.

    me neither it worked all fine for me 1st time testing,

    All though I did found 1Problem, and is on SYNC with *applications, I backedup *applications using sync, when started with a few Apps, from appstore.. but then after many hours having a whole bunch mixed Free and Purchased ... went to SYNC with the new Apps, while it took way longer, it always comes Error on 2 Certain Apps - AIM & Movie it wierdly says I'm not the authorised user, I tried it serveral times Restarting my computer, even booting up my iPhone, it still Kept saying the same Error

    so... my Solution *Not to SYNC *applications... just do all the downloadings and purchases through your iPhones, plus SYNC will be way more faster :P

    I seem to be the only one with that problem, everything else Works perfect no such other problems

    Ye I also got error when syncing apps ,it caused a problem with the remote app but I deleted it on my phone and it worked fine when I installed it again.

    I also had no problems with 2.0. Worked great and I also managed to fiddle in most of my customize pics and the german O2 carrier logo package :-)

    So everything back to normal except for the background pic and all the previous 3rd party apps....

    I tried to get the beta because it sounds good, but it's nothing but vaporware atm. For now concentrate on developing and save your spamming until you've at least got something to promote please.

    Is it supposed to install the installer? All I have is "Cydia" app that I have never seen before. I dont have a TMobile sim, so I can't test that either. IS is safe to say that since I have the "Cydia" app, that everything was successful?

    i have an 8 GB ipod Touch, i've tried to built a custom ipsw file with pwnageTool 2.0 and even with 2.0.1.....but it just keeps failing every time, all i get is this message in the log:

    2008-07-20 19:10:47 - Converting root filesystem to UDZO image.

    Hi Frederick,

    I would like to ask you please. I am in Japan not that it makes a difference. I have a new 3G iPhone. I want to use this however, I want to make sure that I get it right. I see that alot of most people here are unlocking 1st gen. iPhones with 2.0 soft. I even see that you posted a how to a couple of times for that version. Could you please post a version for a 3G iPhone. I am not sure what I should do exactly. On a side note. I started it however I quit shortly after before anything started because I was unsure.
    Here are my questions.
    1. Please make a step by step for 3G iPhone.
    2. I stopped as soon as it asked me to make custom ispw. It automatically found one on my machine, I didn't have to download one elsewhere. I wasn't sure if when it created the custom one that it used the old one or it copied it to make the custom one.
    3. Will I too need the bootloader? I haven't made it that far in the process of the app.

    Hi :)

    1. Step by Step for iPhone 3G is simply selecting "simple" method and selecting the iPhone 3G. Then simply select the 2.0 firmware .ipsw on the HD.
    2. It has to create a custom firmware for you - it does this using the previous "official" version of the firmware and hacking it.

    i have been trying to make a CFW for ipod touch, but everytime it says i haz fail. (poor cat)
    i have a ppc mac (maybe its not universal binary?)
    i used the official 2.0 ipod restore .ipsw
    i am trying to use custom logos, but im sure thats not the problem
    and it shows in the log that it has finished creating the ipsw, it just cant build it.

    I my pwned my phone yesterday, the first time of asking.
    I wanted the release badly, but it was well worth the wait. I bet the whiners will also admit that.
