I have to agree, to some extent. I and the other users would greatly appreciate the time being put toward that Pwnage release if it's on track for the next few days, and that the video be worked on later.

On the other hand, I personally would LOVE to see some technical stuff, and if the video's ready (or the Pwnage release is well off), by all means post it now.

You guys have pulled through in the past, and the trolls saying that the videos are a tease would be fed even by silence.

Scans of napkins are cool too.

It is posted in the IRC room topic that Pwnage 2.0 will require 1.1.4 pwnage with unlock BEFORE upgrading to iPhone OS 2.0. If we have previously used Pwnage to unlock/jailbreak 1.1.4, can we skip this step, or is the method used in Pwnage 2.0 different than the previous release?

why spend time making/releasing videos, when you can instead be testing/finalizing the real tool? Especially if the real tool will be released "soon" (if it were weeks away, then maybe a video would be nice).

Taking the time to define "soon", and more details on what we can expect "soon" (does it support 3G phones, unlocking + jailbreak + activate, or just a subset, etc?) would be more informative, IMO.

But, do what you want (obviously). I'm patiently awaiting release of the tool.

It would be good to see a progress video/message explaining where you are up to and any show stopping bugs blocks that are holding up the release.

One detail maybe i would like if you include in the documentation:

What extra steps (if any) are necessary for 1.1.2 / 1.1.3 (unlocked) users to upgrade directly to the 2.0 firmware.

Since i think i am not the only one who has just waited on the 2.0 release before updating again (e.g. with 1.1.2 in my case).

Now this is what I call teasing people, come on Dev Team you need to kill the hype but instead your making a great deal out of something which will die out once you release it.
I am no hater of Zibri or the Dev Team and think if you guys teamed up it would be better for the scene, I am sure you will all learn something new.
Now that would be legendary, spotlight news: Dev Team & Zibri take on Apples iPhone "Team DTZ"....
Anyway I am in no rush to get my iPhone updated to 2.0, im fine with what I have so far.
Also new phones being released will compete with the iPhone so surely something better will come along soon.
I just think you guys are legendary, its something great to see Dev Team taking a bite out of the Apple.
Wish you all the best with your projects, I will be keeping an eye out for you guys in the future.

As long as you aren't taking time out of you time normally devoted to finishing pwnage 2.0 the videos are always welcome. If you make the videos as a way to kinda reset your brains after working very hard then make as many as you want. Whatever you need to do to finish this project is fine by me.

My desire was to have just few explanations to understand what your software can do. Of course with the software in hands I can check by myself, but a video cannot help. For example: does this tool works with 3G phones? In the previous videos you didn't explain that, and there isn't any word about that in all your posts. Moreover: does a "modified" 3G phone (where possible) works with the new apple services?
I think that a reply to these questions is, for many users, better than any demo.
Of course the code is even better.

Absolutely yes, I can't wait to have this tool in my hands it will save my life. I am concerned about whether or not the tool will help me out. Here's the situation, hopefully someone can help me out with an answer:

I have the 8GB first generation iPhone. Now on Friday, being as impatient and curious as I am, I upgraded to 2.0 Firmware thinking that the same unlock tool would work. My mistake of course, it did not. Then I was stuck with 2.0 in out of box pre-activation state with a rogers sim card inside. I found an article on the internet from iClarified about downgrading to 1.1.4, so of course I attempted this, use the Pwnage tool and surely 1.1.4 works fine. However the BootNeuter is not working for me. I am stuck with an 8GB iphone that does not get cell service, the BootNueter fails with error code 5. I went through some forum solutions on the net about how to get it working with erasing the baseband, but this does not work for me. Now after trying to erase the baseband my wifi doesn't seem to connect to my network.

I'm really hoping someone can tell me if this new tool will allow me to get the iPhone fully working once I upgrade back to iPhone firmware 2.0 and unlock with the new tool!

Any suggestions or fixes for this at the moment would be much appreciate as well!

I would, of course, like to see a video. I love to see how you are on developing it, etc.

I appreciate your work on Pwnage Tool, and it. Before it gets released I would like another video, 2 more, 3 more, what you think is enough.

It's best to show us a software with first we knowing at least the GUI and somethings, than releasing it faster but we not knowing how it is.

so many persons are waiting to use the updated firmware in there jailbreaked and unlocked iphones.
No dought, you did good work but teasing do not help. An estimate release date would satisfy much more then teasing. I would be happy, if my iphone would work with the new firmware - 3g would be the next step.
by the way, misunderstandings between the dev-team members helps these "monopol" companies like AT&T (US) and T-Mpbile (Germany), O2 (UK) but not the consumers or the dev-team.

ok so I checked out http://yiphone.org and nothing more then a silly pictue of Geohot with Zibri trade mark, totally halarious, but if you notice under the picture there is code blinking over and over, to my knowledge this is a countdown, if you cut and aste it to your regular note pad you will see the digits go less and less

If you watch the numbers, the first 6 digits seem to correspond to seconds. When I looked, it was close to 151,000

That comes out to about 41.9444444 repeating hours. Just under 2 days.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Might be a silly question, but I'm not all that "into" the technical stuff, just a drone who wants his things to work. Anyhow, at the Dev Team portal it says that the Pownagetool 1.1 has support for the 2.0 firmware, but only works on OSX 10.4 and 10.5.

So my question it then following, if I use the Pwnagetool with a 10.4 Mac, can I unlock my iPhone. I'm just intrested in unlocking it at the moment. Uppdated the phone (took for granted that there would be a hack out by now) and need a phone. I know i there is a way to restore the phone but just wanted to check so that it really is necesary.

I say yes. I don't really get what all the fuss is about. You keep the community up to date (mostly :) ) and building some well deserved hype, while doing it in a sort of teasing manner to your own amusement I'm sure, but it's all good :). As a computer engineer I can relate, and I'm sure you're probably as excited to release the PwnageTool to the public as they are, but want to maintain your integrity in the process.

You're doing a great thing for the community on your own time and when will people start respecting that !? (I know most do but there's a very vocal minority that don't and wtf is up with that ?!). Don't let anybody pressure you into doing things you don't feel like, and don't forget to have fun along the way :)

I say no more videos. I kind of think the team revels just a bit in withholding the pwnage tool... as much as I'd love to believe their noble quest of perfecting it before release. Most software comes out in betas, with later updates that would correct any unseen bugs. Why couldn't the team release a beta?

What difference does it make one or two days? A couple of hours after the release of the tool everybody will forget about the couple of extra days they had to wait for the solution.

I think we should show some respect and be grateful with the Dev Team since they release this tools FREE and nobody has to pay a dime for it. If there is someone out there that cannot wait for them to finish their tool, Well, why don't you go and program your own??? ;-)

He's making a false dichotomy between "real hacks" and "fake hacks" to try to make it look as if he won't "lower himself" to this level. The truth is, this kind of hacking, patching, and reverse engineering is beyond anything he could ever dream of. This is the most heavy-handedly locked down consumer device in circulation today, and it makes the ramdisk vulnerability he ran off with pale by comparison.

It's just a lame attempt to save face, except he's making himself look dumber with every new post he writes.

Dear Dev Team,

I believe it is greatly unnecessary for you to release ANOTHER video for the following reasons.

1.) Don't waste the time making a video while you can be working on the application itself
2.) For those who do not believe the videos and think that the whole operation is fake can think that if they want, they do have a right for their own opinion, but personally I they are very wrong.
3.) I personally don't think the video will serve any purpose, Dev team, you must realize there will always be doubters in life and there is nothing you can do about it. Though the video may potentially decrease the number of "haters", what good does that do.
4.) Most importantly, instead of making videos, finish the application. Trust me, in no means do I want you to rush or anything, I totally believe that the application should be finish when it is ready, and only then.

For people who disagree with me, hear me out. When this application is available out to the public, their servers will be loaded with downloads by end users like you and me. But in the end, think about it, for all current original iPhone users, all you will have more than you have now is the Appstore (which is very similar to Installer (and in some ways worse)), and some very little upgrades (like be able to search your contacts). And although you may be excited the day you first get it, I can guarantee you the next day, you'll basically won't even care. The reason why you and me care alike is simply just so our iPhones are updated and it is out of our minds. To conclude, Dev Team, I strongly believe you should not release another video, I think the actual application itself will be proof enough. However, I overall believe you will make the right decision and video or no video, its not going to be the end of the world and soon enough, everyone one will forget about everything and just be happy they have their updated iPhones. Zibri says on his blog ZiPhone was a real hack.
Software upgrades or custom firmwares
are a totally different thing.
A nice proof of concept, a nice work, but
that's not hacking..
what an asshole i don't see him doing any thing.
Does it matter what way the unlock is done as long that it is done safely.
The dev team could have done the same thing and fucked up alot of peoples phones.
But they came up with a better way a safer way that is alot more than he has done with his stolen software.

It is posted in the IRC room topic that Pwnage 2.0 will require 1.1.4 pwnage with unlock BEFORE upgrading to iPhone OS 2.0. If we have previously used Pwnage to unlock/jailbreak 1.1.4, can we skip this step, or is the method used in Pwnage 2.0 different than the previous release?

Even I thought the same that the Dev-Team need to YET get the 3G Baseband unlocked. I think the video showed a 1.1.4 baseband with 1.2.2 firmware. This may be the apt procedure for existing unlcocked iPhones.

Things would be very clear if they show a video of 3G browsing/broadband test. That would mean even the latest iPhones can be unlocked with the latest baseband - without resorting to have to downgrade the baseband to 1.1.4 - without the losing the 3G advantage.

I do not need to see another video, especially a technical one which could give away some of your secrets and make all of your hard work useless.

I am patient enough to wait. I was patient enough NOT to buy an iPhone 3g from any of our Italian providers, because of their outrageous pricing and lack of a flat rate for data (600MB a month for Vodafone and 1GB for TIM, Tim goes up to 5GB but you have to pay 200 Euro a month)
I will be patient and wait for you to release the new tool.
Don't listen to the haters, just do what you believe in, and you will see that people will THANK YOU when you will provide them with a bug-free and safe software.

Will there be a Windows version released along with it? if not, I can get hold of a Mac if necessary. I'm sure Andy is one of those among a growing number of people who are operating a "business" that sells the free tool(s) to unlock the iphone - then claim they are selling service.

Perhaps his customers are inundating him with calls like, "HEY, you said you would have an unlock/jailbreak method for the new firmware for your customers. WHERE IS IT!?"

Now Andy is sweating balls and without clean undies to change into he's trying to displace everything back to you guys. Of course he wants someone to release, he doesn't care who does it first or if it's as good as it can be. He's just worried about his 'service' selling business.

You know what would be really awesome, if somehow that Dev Team tracked IP's and MAC addresses, and made it so anyone who trash talked them or were asses, wouldn't be able to use the new version. Then they could take their time, sip a beer or bevy of their choice, bask in the glory of their success and laugh at all the whiners that couldn't be patient and wouldn't be able to use their software.... now that, that would be nice. :)
