I had my 16 gig Iphone and I had it jailbroken and when I updated it to the new 2.2 version i was only able to view the scree with a USB cable and ITUNES CD AND can mae emergency call call which flashes in different language . please help me fix or restor
from there if you can't let it finish by coming back to that screen i don't how to proceed but re jailbreak and WAIT till it has fully finished all installations
They will take your money but will never send you anything, most likely because they have lied and do NOT have a working solution for V2.2 I
live in the UK and purchased it on 27/11/08 - as soon as it came out. As the company is based in the UK I should have been the first to recieve it - but its now 03/12/08 and have not recieved anything!!!
They will not reply to your e-mails and whenever you call the support team your call just get forwared to a voicemail. I advise nobody to purchase through this website and if you have already try and get a refund through paypal or your credit card company!
Also take a look at this link: http://www.hi-tech-it.com/gadgets/httpwwwany-ne...
I just want to clarify- do i just use the PwnageTool_2.2.1.dmg, i.e. open it and follow the instructions? Thanks in advance for your help, Cheers
As for Installer, I wouldn't use it as its still buggy. It froze me 2G when I updated Installer. Use Cydia instead. There are much more software available on Cydia and its way more stable.
i think i once heard you guys said that any baseband in the firmware will be flashed if the baseband in the iphone appeared to be corrupted.
I think this is the only solution to those(not including me:D ) "accidentally" update their baseband to 2.28.00 since you guys said there is no exploitable hole now.
well, how do you think?
*sent from the apple store =)
congratz guys
ever in bangalore or even in india i would love to buy u guys a beer
CHEERS
Both OSX versions downloaded and i'll leave Seeding at max upload speed!
Thanks for the fast release.
You guys are awesome!
Thanks dev-team
then i updated via itunes to 2.1 and was still unlocked then i jailbroke the phone via quickpwn
so here i am with an unlocked 2.1 wanting to go to 2.2 unlocked and then jailbreak
Warning: my phone will not work if its not unlocked so this is the most important thing jailbreak second
if you have an iphone 3G and you upgraded from 2.0 to 2.1 via itunes, and your "about" menu says "modem firmware: 02.11.07"?
a) you are screwed because of the baseband upgrade on 2.1
b) your iphone is still able to run the unlock whenever it is released
thanks in advance guys!!
and keep going iphone dev team!!!
Ha!
I never got that before. It seems obvious now...
-Chas3R
Thanks in advance!
p.s. since a ipsw is basically a glorified .zip file, can you say which files in it are responsible for the baseband upgrade? I want to be REALLY sure I won't be upgrading my 01.45 iphone 3g baseband.
waiting for 3g soft unlock
You guys Rock!
iPhone-Dev Team ftw!
i have no mac, so i cant run pwnagetool to make one :(

You never cease to amaze me with the speed of your 'cat and mouse' updates to keep us users free from control by Big Brother. If I wore a hat I would take it off in respect :-)
I wonder if you could kindly tell us if this Jailbrake Pwnage Tool Update will allow those of us with locked 3G iPhones can continue using the 'TurboSim' which I know you guys hate and deplore, BUT unfortunately, in order not to have a permanent desk brick, some of us have to resort to this 'half way house' solution until the 3G baseband unlock is unveiled?
I know from the reports on this great blog that many have been unable to continue using their TurboSims because of Big Brother's 2.2 Update (I otherwise refer to as 'Lockout'), so will the Pwnage tool help solve this issue?
Guys ( & Gals) !, thanks again for all of your great work !!!

I first restore to factory settings through Itunes, and then I run Quickpwn? or what am I supposed to do?
I have tried 3 or 4 times and still doesnt work ?
Just letting you guys no!
I'll wait for WinPwn or I'll just install hackintosh, because I don't want to loose my 1.45.00 :)

Get an error using Pwnage Tool - whenever building a custom firmware on the Mac - it asks for user/pass for admin and then just errors - saying it has failed.
I have tried 3 or 4 times and still doesnt work ?
Just letting you guys no!
Just the damn annoying "haz fail"-message, remove that stupid shit!
something wrong with the pwnagetool
the first and second fails i got were when i used expert mode.
is each .ipsw unique? if not why doesn't devteam just put out a patched .ipsw and skip the whole bundle building process all together? c
ide realy appreaciate if somerone could answer me
I'm having a problem when using PwnageTool in a 2.1 3G iPhone (with proxy Sim): the firmware bundle it "detects" by itself is iPhone1,2_2.1_5F135, instead of iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77 as described below.
Could somebody help? Thank's in advance and thank yo again. Regards!

I'm currently on a 3g jailbreak iphone using 2.1 firmware.
thanks dev team
one question if i have a locked iphone 3g to at&t and im using turbosim to work on 2.1
if i made a custom ipsw with the old baseband
should it work or not thx
you guys rule!
so just to repeat you were asked in itunes if you want the 2.2 update said yes and it did its thing when you finish the cydia and installer are gone but you are 100% unlocked
I used quickpwn for windows to upgrade to 2.1. The unlck for 2..0.2 was kept.
Please help people, im using a windows machine. Should i upgrade to 2.2 through itunes, will it keep my iphone activated. if not will quickpwn unlock and activate it again.
Thanks
10x DevTeam
Thanks.
Will quickpwn for windows re activate it fo me.
Thanks
Can some make a package for us "non macers"?
Ruben
Also, where can I obtain the custom 2.2 firmware?
hit the update button from itunes ? or wait for the mac users to upload a custom firmware for iphone 2g ?
i could use a hand.pls :D
"hacktivation" and "activation" are mutually exclusive. Only one will work, depending on whether you can normally activate through iTunes or not.
Anyony else getting it?
which is the correct firmware to use?
i used iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw - is that right??
what will you gain from 2.2 wait for a week or 2 maybe a month
not big of a deal
what i understand is that if you wanna update to 2.2 wait for some mac user to pwnage 2.2 and remove baseband in custom ipsw otherwise if you update your screwed
people chill out read step 1 million times
correct me if i am wrong

Espace libre insuffisant sur la partition principale.
it means : "Insufficient space on the partition."
I'm just wondering one thing - If i go from 2.1 to 2.2 with my iPhone 2G, will the Cydia apps still work in the 2.2?
Many thanks,
Jacob, Sweden
Great job! Just want to thank you all for your dedication and hardwork! V.Cool guys.
I've read all the comments - and still have some questions.
I've got an iPhone 3G - which I QuickPwned on my MacBook. I have iTunes 8.02 installed. The iPhone 3G has a modem FW of 02.11.07. The phone itself has no hardware modifications. I'm getting round the SIM Lock using a YesSIM - similar to TurboSIM. (I know you guys don't recommend them - these SIM hacks! I'm hoping that with your pending SIM unlock I can bin the YesSIM)
I've read your blog post and I know for 2.2 I need to use your PwnageTool to create a custom 2.2 .ipsw file preserving the existing 2.1 baseband. But here's where I get confused:
a) Do you think the baseband in my iPhone 3G will be eligible for the software SIM unlock ?
Thanks guys! And once again really appreciate your efforts and hardwork!
Thanks from all the way from the UK.
In the meantime, you'll be fine in your current setup if you keep the baseband where it is.
Most appreciated guys! Big Thumbs up to you!
And it smells good!
Then I used QuickPwn to jailbreak it. Creating files went fine, moving files as well and updating on the screen, but then it had to restart, and my trouble started.
It have now been trying to restart for 20+ minutes and just has the Apple logo and nothing happens.
What to do?
Ideas very welcome...
After 30 minutes of "Apple logo screen" and serious nailbiting, the phone suddenly showed the login screen.
I guess updating for me has to be a nervewrecking session pretty much every time.
Anyways, thanks, and keep up the good work!
I did not tried it yet, i hope it works....but you did it in a quite little time...
Thanks from Brazil!!!!!
its baseband is 2.2
would my iphone then be eligible for the sim unlock?
NOTE: ‘Simple Mode’ in PwnageTool currently only works for the iPod Touch. To use PwnageTool foriPhones you will need to use ‘Expert mode’. This is a workaround while we make an update and fix this issue. In order to do this you will need to navigate to the “General” window and change two things: Deselect “activate” ONLY if you are normally able to activate through iTunes but if you wish to ‘hacktivate’ the iPhone using PwnageTool leave it selected, you will also need to change the partition size to about 1000MB (type in the value or use the slider).
And do I understand correctly that the way to upgrade an already jailbroken 2.1 phone to 2.2 is by letting it apply the update to 2.2 in iTunes first (thus UNjailbreaking my phone), then running QuickPWN to RE-jailbreak my phone in 2.2? Will it keep my old 3rd party apps and settings or do they have to be re-installed? (And yes, I'm fine with the baseband update--I'm not leaving my carrier)
Just curious though, I have an iPod Touch 2G and (no no no don't stop reading I'm not going to rant!) since they both have the same operating system, does this mean that you can modify the unlocking program so that it works for the Touch too (if it's even available XD I can't even tell lol)?
Well, no hurry; I don't use my iPod that often so it doesn't affect me much. :D
Keep up the good work Dev-squad. ^^
i jailbroke 2.1 with quickpwn.. but it comes up "Firmware not recognized" when i load up the new quickpwn to move to 2.2
anyhelp???
Put it in place where I tunes keeps firmwares and update or restore from there??
Ruben
there is still no software 3g unlock for any sim yet ....
Help would be appreciated a lot! :)
Thanks!

If you chose in Quickpwn 2.2, for example 2.2 FW, and your iPhone still got the 2.1. This message will appear:
The IPSW file you selected (iPhone 1,2_2.1) does not match the firmware version of your device (iPhone 1,2_2.2). Please note that QuickPwn does not upgrade your firmware you currently have on your device
Shouldn't it be vice versa. Anyway, just thought to inform you.
Amazing Work by the way, Goooo Dev Team, I admire your strength, and your fighting spirit.
By the way, I think the baseband update was done by Apple, especially because of your hard work, in unlocking the old version

When can we expect a Windows version of PwnageTool? I do not own a mac but would like to upgrade my iphone to 2.2 without touching the baseband.

I downloaded the Windows QuickPwn and tried to jailbreak my first generation iPhone on 2.2. I restored it to 2.2, and went through the QuickPwn process, but when I have to put it in DFU mode, QuickPwn just says "Preparing your device - Please follow the instructions above", and goes no further. I'm not sure if this is a bug, but I've tried numerous times and they've failed each time. Thank you for your time.
Braden
I have tried the 2.2 pwnage for windows 4 or 5 times and failed each time. I had to do 4 or 5 restores and I crapped my pants on the last one because I got a "iphone can't be restored. unknown error" message. I fixed that, but what gives? When I run pwnage, I don't see the black iPhone logo in the pwnage window. When I get to the "hold power for 5 seconds" step, none of the directions are highlighted. I have the latest iTunes.
Could it be something as simple as switching USB ports? That has helped me before.
to go from a stock, locked (at&t) iphone 3g 2.1 -> jailbroken (preserve baseband) iphone 3g 2.2
i can update itunes to the latest version
i simply use PwnageTool_2.2.dmg and follow the "intuitive graphics" to create an .ipsw, except switch in expert mode as described in the "note:"
i'm lucky that my macbook is early 2008 not late 2008
and that's it, did i get it right? thanks!
keep working at the sim unlock and if possible also with the windows version.
Thx Thx Thx.
Im waiting to the win vers. to update.
Kamui
I've tried several different ones and am now downloading a different .dmg of the pwnagetool
Any ideas ?
What's going on?
In Pwnage Tool, rather than the apps searching for an IPSW by default, it would be handy if I could choose to browse OR search. I have a great deal of disk space 2+TB and the search takes forever. Search always finds the IPSW, but it would be quicker if I could just browse and tell the app where it's at.
thank you guys, saved my life and my pocket :D
keep up the good work, you did an do best ;)

xxx <3 Dev Team!
1. That was fast
2. Hurry up with the 2G touch jailbreak
3. There seem to be A LOT of problems with jailbreaking after reading the comments
4. I guess lots of people are going to want the iPhone unlock for the Christmas holidays as that's when people will be traveling a bit. (not me as i have a touch which still needs a jailbreak!)
Still dissapointed that your not able to hakzor the touch.......
I ran into some problems when upgrading. The pwnage tool says that I needed to put phone in DFU mode and then connect and select my new ispw and it would work. Doing it this way kept giving me a 1600 error. So I tried a previous version of iTunes but it still didn't work. What finally worked was, I kicked it out of recovery mode and went back into iTunes and just skipped the DFU mode and directly option clicked on the restore button and selected my new ispw and bingo. It worked. Fabulous. Now I am on 2.2
What's weird is, everything worked fine but then I messed up my sys files and had to restore. Since then (and itunes update), impossible to restore anything but the official version (1600 error).
I don't have a ATT sim card, and if I borrow one I still have to go though the activation process.
How to you restore without going through DFU?
What worries me is that it worked fine at first. I don't get it.
In fact whatever firmware i Restore back to i always get the 1600 error.
So the question is do i need to get it into DFU mode? because when using the pwnage tool to get it into DFU mode it doesn't seem to make a difference...
any suggestions anyone? :(
I just created the new Firnware Version 2.2 using PwnageTool. I own a iPhone 2G with Firmware 2.1 and other Provider than T-Mobile. Everything was running quickly and very well. But only if i only check on Cydia for my new Firmware. When i click on Cydia and ->Installer<- creating the new Firmware is failing for some reason. Anyway... i always use only Cydia because i have more trouble with 3rd Party Software when Installer is on my iPhone too and therefore i'm very very happy now!
Thanky you so much Guys!!
Update to 2.2 with iTunes and run QuickPwn.
... but this no worky for me. QuickPwn says:
We'll now search for the firmware bundles. If QuickPwn cannot find the correct file, we'll try to download them automatically.
I look in ~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
... and find: iPod1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw
QuickPwn eventually times out and says:
We can't fond the iPod Touch firmware bundle! Please buy this from iTunes and restart QuickPwn.
At this pont I am totally lost.
great work dev team!
i have a sp/factory unlocked iphone 3g .. i can use any sim on it.. but i first need to jailbreak it to activate ```otherwise itunes tells me it cannot be activated... what can i do ?\
thanks
But when I used pwnage to upgrade to 2.2
shows no service!!!
anyone has the same problem?
I think the only difference this time is you need to use the Expert mode, General settings to adjust the Root partition size to 1000Mb. (Can't everyone just hacktivate and not worry?)
Oh, just remembered I use the 5 icon dock that caused hanging with the last update - guess that will have to be uninstalled first. Think I will wait till morning and read it all again.
used quickpwn for the first time now im stuck on apple logo :(
help i might have no choice but to update to 2.2 with a restore
Its you're, not your. He doesn't own stupid.
Also, stop being such a baby, that is ridiculous. They do this stuff for free, and have no responsibility to you, me, anyone else. Just be grateful for once in your miserable life.
There r many windows users out there... just stay calm, ur not alone...
else use mac... Ur already a half mac.

What are the steps for me to put 2.2 on it?
The same way I put 2.1 on or do I have to do something different now?
I read that I can just upgrade in iTunes... is it that simple?
YOU DONT HAVE TO RUN PWNAGETOOLS IN 2G IPHONES!!!!!!!!
Bye!
Now one two part question.
QuickPwn 2.2 Windows = Unlock and/or Jailbreak
QuickPwn 2.2 Mac = Unlock and/or Jailbreak as well? Or Just Jailbreak?
QuickPwn 2.2 for Mac - Jailbreak iPhone/iPhone3G/iPod Touch.
Actually, upgrading to 2.2 a iPhone 2G unlocked (SFR network).
And of course, seeding for leechers !!!
-Still have a recurrent error when searching the firmware on my HD with QuickPwn 2.1 and 2.2 : always need to redownload the .ipsw.
May be shoulde use a special folder location ?

Now i have to keep paying AT&T home wrecking prices :(
HELP
someone please post a link im bricked and cant stay that long!!!
what do i do?
am i supposed to download firmware 2.2 and then select that?
and if i am supposed to download 2.2 how do i do so without updating my phone?
thanks a lot for your help,
and great job.
?
Is this the right procedure?:
(backup already created of my first gen iPhone and 2.2 firmware downloaded)
Restore 3G iPhone to 2.2 (shift + click restore in iTunes)
jailbreak with quickpwn for windows
Install all my stuff from Cydia, and then it'll be ready to go for when I get my SIM card on Tuesday..
Also, someone said there is no wifi toggle in 2.2, did Apple remove this feature?..
Thanks :-)
Just so I'm clear. I've already downloaded the 2.2 update via iTunes.
Do I update choose update via iTunes, then perform a backup. Then launch Pwnage 2.2 and create the custom IPSW file and go through the same steps I did before?
Sorry for the lame question, I just don't want to screw my iPhone up. Thx
iPhone 2g (1st gen)
Used Pwnagetool to make a custom 2.2.
- Used Expert mode, Failed a couple times but finally worked when i changed some options
- Unchecked activate - since i use AT&T
- Changed the partition to 1047MB (first mark on the line)
- Unchecked Nooter - im on at&t, don't need unlock.
- Set my custom logo.
Was unable to restore with the phone in DFU - kept getting error 1600. I'm using a 20in iMac with OSX 10.5.5 and itunes 8.0.1 (12)
So I left the iphone connected and turned on like normal, option-Restore to select the custom firmware. (is that status bar on the iphone during restore new? I don't remember it in the past)
It restored just fine, No errors, has my custom logo and all.
Activation was successful.
Cydia works fine. (have not tried installer as I don't use it much)
Used Cydia to install a few apps before I restore my old data- 5 icon dock, SSH, Aptbackup, sbsettings.
Then restored my most recent backup.
Looked like everything came back except the stuff i had installed from cydia.
Tried to use aptbackup to restore those , but it tells me that I never had done an aptbackup - It lies, I used aptbackup just before my last sync/backup.. so not sure what's up with that but i can reinstall what i want from cydia manually.
WooT for JB 2.2 :-)
Thanks Dev-Team, BB, and anyone else who helped along the way. Props from Washington State!
Any thoughts on what I can try next?
Fight the good fight,
DEV-TEAM you are great!!!
I would like to try and jailbreak my iPhone 3G. It is currently at 2.2 with modem fw 2.28.00. I am using windows, but it is a hackintosh so I can also access a mac but my iPhone is sync'd with windows. I don't need to change carrier or anything as I have it on AT&T "legally." My goal is to simply upgrade to 2.2 using just windows if possible. But it seems 3G users should "shy away" from using QuickPwn. Could anyone help me find the best way to jailbreak?
I have an iPhone 3G *jailbroken* with firmware 2.1. It's been running pretty darn well and I'd hate to piss it all up with 2.2 but I'd really like to try the new firmware. My main concern is losing PdaNet which I use on a regular basis (and the main reason I jailbroke in the first place.) How can I safely update to 2.2 and retain my cydia applications and what not? I could care less about the baseband thing - I'm on AT&T and not going anywhere else. No worries about some soft unlock for carrier in the future, at least not with me. So what's the process I need to take here? Do I just hook it up and update to the stock 2.2 via iTunes, then hit it with PwnageTool? I have both Mac and Windows machines available. I have been syncing with a Vista box but am looking to switch to syncing with my shiny new MacBook anyway; However, I hear the new MacBook doesn't recognize DFU mode (chee, Apple, how sly) so I suppose I need to do the update/jailbreak/etc on a Vista box first?
Procedure was as follows:
-updated previously jailbroken iphone 3g ver. 2.1 --> 2.2 via itunes.
-pwange tool'd in expert mode via instructed settings the 2.2 update.
-jailbroke 2.2 via pwange.
-restored iphone with pre-2.2 update backup (the one stored in itunes)
-reinstalled cydia apps.
A few reasons I updated early even though the dev team said not to:
1) I'm impatient.
2) I'm with AT&T and don't plan on needing a soft unlock.
3) I have great faith that the dev team will be all over continuing their amazing work and will be able to fix the majority if not all of my screw-ups in the future.
So the moral of my story is, upgrade if you'd like because it's possible to jailbreak 2.2. But as the dev team says, if you're at all interested in the soft unlock or are just a bit concerned about upgrading that baseband then wait. I was satisfied with 2.1 and honestly, 2.2 isn't anything crazy!
Kudos to the dev team for their hard work. I'm behind you 100%.
:)
Is this supposed to happen where if I use the 2.1 baseband on 2.2 I cant get any service, or did I just brick my phone??!?!?!
Thx for the fast reply, MuscleNerd ;-)
The IPSW would be for an iPhone 3G w/ AT&T service, Cydia, no custom boot logos, and no Installer beta.
What did I do wrong???
I had a problem with my apps, only the directly downloaded from the appstore sync'd not the other ones, Itunes says "The application cannot be verified" or something like that and I lost my critical tool GPS Kit.
Or perhaps pwnage tool can be set to make sure they are not hidden? I don't know. My fault. Thanks for the great work!
Thanks :-)
Incompatible with 2.2??
AWESOME!
Thank for this DEV Team
I have a problem with my 3g Iphone
1- Orginally unlocked with GPS
2- I live in egypt where GPS are panned with the 3g Iphone and don't ask me why because it is selly and everybody has GPS devices in thier cars.
3- Shipped orginally with 2.0.1 and GPS was working fine.
4- Updeted to 2.1 Lost GPS
5- Dowengraded by QUIKPWN TO 2.0.2 GPS WORKS AGAIN but has a problem with my car Uconnect bluetooth devise
6- updated to 2.1 using quikpwn agin work fine for the bluetooth but no GPS again
7- waited for long for 2.2 and then updated using Itune with no Luck with my GPS
8- is there any way to make my GPS working back again, it is not phone fault I am sure, it is rather that apple made something through itune that lock the device in egypt and I don't know what, or how it was working on 2.01an 2.0.2 need some help here I have been reading onlone for ages and I can't restore my GPS, please read this too from apple site http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2432
First: THANK YOU! If I'm having some issues with my current Jailbroken 3g (i.e., apps opening slowly, etc.) would it be better to do a "new" setup or is it safe to let iTunes do the upgrade and restore from backup? Obviously this is before I Quickpwn, because I would like to use aptBackup which uses the iTunes backup system.
Second: For everyone asking about losing Cydia Apps. If you do restore from a backup, BEFORE you update, install aptBackup from Cydia. It won't restore all of your settings, but at least it will be a one swipe install of all of your Cydia Apps.
Is this to be expected from firmware 2.2?
As always, DevTeam: you guys are my heroes!
Just dont want to lose the unlock.
can you please post a link for all us windows users to an iPhone 3G custom ISPW with the previos baseband please!!!!!
works great!
I would very much like to just go from 2.1 to 2.2 without restoring.
Question for you: I'm on Windows Vista and I've run Quickpwn on my previously jailbroken 3G after upgrading to 2.2 in iTunes. Quickpwn ran through just fine but I've got no Cydia, Installer, or SSH.
Any ideas?
I understand the iTunes 2.2 and the QuickPWN to re-jailbreak it but for ipa's will we need a new mobileinstall (i.e.Mobileinstall 2.2)? Also, I see someone else has asked about the restoring from previous backup on iTunes. I have also used that before but are you saying that because this is a hacked 2.2 that restoring from the 2.1 files wouldn't work properly? I would hate to loose all of my game saves and have to redo every setting but if that is the only option I understand.
Sorry for another question musclenerd, I see you have been doing a lot of work answering all of these questions so far.
Thanks again for all of your guys' hard work. I really appreciate it!
Download aptbackup and click backup
Go into iTunes and backup iPhone
Restore iPhone 3G to 2.2 firmware
Quickpwn it (I have windows, not MAC)
Go into iTunes and restore settings
Download APTBackup and hit 'restore'
Stick my Vodafone SIM card in it when I get it (probably Tuesday) and it's ready to go..
Is this right? Do I need the SIM card to activate it or anything? (PS it's locked to Vodafone)
Thanks! :-)
will i be fucked...
man
For this one do I just restore it to 2.2 in iTunes, then quickpwn it? Will this unlock and jailbreak it?..
Thanks :-)
Are you guys looking into iTunes and why it does not accept the iPod/iPhone when it is in DFU Mode?
P.S. This is me, http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread..... (Thread starter).
Thanks
if this helps someone in the same situation as me, going from a stock week old 3g (at&t) iphone with 2.1 to jailbroken 2.2 i dloaded the iPhone1,2_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw from the apple link posted below, ran PwnageTool_2.2.dmg in expert mode setting 1000MB partition and unchecking "activate". all fine and dandy. don't forget to option-restore in itunes to choose the custom .ipsw created by PwnageTool, and voila!
I did the restoration fine.
Then I messed up with my files by accessing the iphone with FTP.
I accidentally deleted files of the system.
Around the same time, I did the update of itunes to the lates 8.0.2
Since then, I can only do a restauration with the official update, not the cracked one.
Every time I go DFU mode, iTunes does recognize the iPhone, but if I try to restore a modified system, it says "Error 1600" (just after file extraction). If I restore the officiel, it works, so I did't think it could be related to missing DFU files, could it?
Could it be itunes 8.0.2 that block the process?
I tried many times, even re-creating the file with PwnageTool. Doesn't Work.
So now I'm stuck with a locked and jailed iphone.
unlocking with quickpwn eventually worked. I have no idea how or why. I did the exact same process at least 3 times before and I still got and error. By the way, I did get an itunes error this time too, but somehow quickpwn launched the process anyway. Go figure.
This allowed my to restore new firmware without going through FDU.
But it's scary! I hope I won't have to use FDU any time soon!
Very frustrating, especially since the last several versions had gone so smoothly.
I'll go for MuscleNerd's suggestion of waiting 1/2 an hour, but I'm not hopeful.
1) Tried Upgrade and Restore under iTunes 8.0.1 and 8.0.2
2) Re-downloaded QuickPwn via the torrent vs. the mirror - byte-for-byte the same .exe
3) Currently trying the "wait for 1/2 an hour of reboots and maybe it'll magically stop rebooting" trick
Next up:
Since the PwnageTool instructions ask for a 1000MB root partition to fit both Installer and Cydia, and QuickPwn doesn't (afaik) mess with the partition table, leaving it at 500MB, after the next restore I'll try QuickPwn without icons and Installer.
So one of:
1) Don't try to jam both Installer and Cydia in there with QuickPwn or
2) Don't let iTunes do the settings restore before QuickPwning after a restore
cant wait until you guys find a 2g ipod touch jailbreak.
keep up the good work
please help! Thanx
1. older baseband but ability to unlock
2. newer baseband but no possibility of unlock
I agree that more info regarding baseband features would be nice... maybe it would tip the balance on which direction some of us go. I am sure that once dev-team has time they will investigate. I don't see them trading an unlock for a performance hit if the hit is really big. But then again, the need for an unlock may outweigh the baseband features.....
The dev team never said that if you upgrade to the newer baseband that you would have no possibility of unlock. They simply said that you wouldn't be able to unlock it in the near future, meaning a couple of months or so. In the distant future soft unlock will still be possible on the updated baseband iphone 3g, if not, then those people who buy the iphone 3g after today that will be shipped with 2.2 firmware would be screwed, basically pointless.
I asked MuscleNerd in the previous blog entry and this is his reply:
"But the baseband from 2.2 (baseband 02.28) closes up all the holes we know about that would have allowed a potential soft unlock or at least a downgrade. And they closed up the hole that the carrier simcards were using too."
So at this point, Dev Team IS telling us that 2.2 is a dead end for now. Will they find a new exploit? Maybe. But anyone that knows anything about hacking this stuff knows that there are no guarantees in finding an exploit.
Up until a month ago, the Dev Team was talking about a 3G unlock as "IF" not "When". 2.2 Firmware based unlock could take a year or more.
So yes, if your phone ships with 2.2 you are screwed as a brand new hole and exploit needs to be found.
SWEET!
Thanks Dev Team
if you guys do come out with a ipod touch 2g jailbreak will it be 2.1.1 software or 2.2 cuz i kinda wanna update to 2.2
help?
If you have, and your 1st Home page of the iPhone is full of icons, try 2nd page, and so on.. You should be able to find it if you have jailbroken it (with the option to install Cydia ticked of course)
I do have a couple of questions foe anyone who has done this and got it all working.
I have a 3G and I used quickPwn on 2.1 when I fiest got the iphone. Is this mean I wont be able to have a chance for the future unlock even if I use Pwnage tool to go to 2.2
Also what are the steps of doing this the right way, meaning do I download and upgrade to 2.2 via Itunes first and then use the Pwnage tool? And do I need to have iTunes 8.02?
Someone please post step by step instructions for those who are a bit slow.
Great work!
ps. let me know if this was wrong way to do it.
if so - that would be awesome
thanks soo much
or
2G iphone as in (non -3G)
I have a ATT sim card which I used before in 1.1.4 in iTunes to activate which always worked, now it seems to work. When I put back my T-Mobile sim card the phone complains about the SIM Card and locks up again. I can put back the ATT sim card, and load up iTunes and the phone unlocks and I can use it.
Any suggestions?
Mistake on my part was that before I ran the QuickPWN tool, I had activated my iPhone in iTunes using my T-Mobile SIM Card.
To solve my issue, I have restored my iPhone again from the downloaded file from iTunes, and before doing anything, while leaving my T-Mobile SIM Card in, I ran the QuickPWN tool which then 'hactivated' my iPhone. Now everything is working!
its maybe because i didnt download itunes 8.0.2
i have Windows Vista with a 2.1 unlocked/jailbroken iphone using t-mobile
from my understanding this is what i do
1.connect my phone
2.click UPDATE on itunes and let it updates to 2.2
3.open quickpwn and lost the 2.2 firmware and customize it
4.use the shift+Resore method on itunes and it should work?
i'm just afraid of the quickpwn... it has never worked for me
when i was updating to 2.1 i jsut found a custom firmware online and then used shift+restore on itunes and that was it.
AFTER UPDATE iTunes 2.2 can not use the phone coded TO ORANGE AND I use TURBOSIM WITH VODAFONE
THANK
please help
Go into Cydia->Sections->All packages and install BootNeuter. Launch it and turn on "Neuter" and "Unlock". Then tap "Flash". It'll ask you to reboot first, then you'll need to pick the same settings. Tap on "Flash" this time around too.
The iPhone will reboot and flash a new bootloader and baseband. Don't interrupt that process. After it finishes and reboots you should see your signal again.
If you try it again and BootNeuter freezes (it's not really meant to be used outside of PwnageTool and QuickPwn), then you have two options:
1) if you have a Windows box, remove BootNeuter via Cydia but then go run QuickPwn for Windows. It will give you the option to install BootNeuter, so check that box (lower right).
2) Otherwise, use PwnageTool for OS X. Create a custom ipsw in Expert mode. In the General menu, keep the "Activate" box checked and change the partition size to 1000. Build the ipsw then use iTunes to "restore" to it.
Thanks
Seeding now, to do what little I can to help.
Were that the misfits were as helpful as you...

Apparently, I restored using iTunes to 2.2, and then I ran quickpwn again. It's working!
Restore bugs me, I hate and takes ages, but solves most of this problems!
the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (2005)
now i am stuck in DFU mode, every time I attempt a restore it says Preparing iPhone for restore... for like 10 minutes when it finally gives up and gives me the above error.
then my phone appears to be off, and i turn it on, it goes directly to DFU mode.
any tips?
Thanks.
Windows: Press and Hold Shift, then click on restore, do the same as described above.
So my question is what does the baseband upgrade do as I see it being extremely useful in call quaility?
Secondly, luckily most of us had a mac to upgrade with pwnage tool, how do we do that in windows to surpass the baseband upgrade if we wanted?
In case I didn't say it yet, thank you to the entire dev team for doing this. It is insane you guys are willing to do such a great update, so quick, and so effective...all at no charge. You guys truly rock!
I really appreciate the hard work and long hours you've put in for the community
If the Pwnage Tool exists only for the Mac, and I only have access to a Windows machine, how can I upgarde to 2.2 WITHOUT altering my baseband (a.k.a Preserve Baseband ).
Thanks doesn't cover it...how about "...with a cherry on top" :)
I would realllllllllllllllllllllly like to know the answer to this. I have a custom firmware a friend of mine sent me and want to put it on my iphone. But I only have a windows machine.
Shift+Restore didn't work it never got passed the preparing your phone bit, kept getting errors. I think iTunes needs to be pwn'd or something. I even had my phone in DFU mode
I'm also on a pc and my friend created a custom ipsw for me.
How do I go about putting this on my phone?
I don't want to update the baseband.
Hopefully someone sees this and helps us poor windows users.
I'd like to ask you How to download only iPhoneOS 2.2 FW .ipsw without upgrading through iTunes?
Please help!
Had a 2.1 3G handset with offical carrier just want cydia and installer!! Quick and painless thank you very much!!!
The iPhone "untitled playlist" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (1602).
Now the only thing I see on my iPhone is a picture of the USB cable pointing towards ITunes icon and it just reboots by itself to that same screen. I've already tried rebooting and it doesn't work.
What do I do? Please respond either on this forum or to madman59@hotmail.com.
Many thanks!

I read :
"The ‘late 2008’ MacBook/air/pro line of computers have an issue with DFU mode. While it’s possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> Pwned 2.2 (using PwnageTool), you can’t yet go from stock to pwned. If in any doubt use a different machine. "
part above, but wasn't sure of the direction to do so.
Do I have to go through the process of creating a custom firmware again or...what do I do?
Thanks.
i didn't do anything yet....
i will read all comment first.......just to see where others failed...where succeeded .
will comment again after done with upgrade and jailbreak.
most..and first: thanks Dev-Team ...you the greatest
what should i do?please please help me!
Did 1048 for partition size
I did included openssh in my firmware. (Should not matter??)
I used the Pwnage Tool on 2g iPhone from 2.1 to 2.2.
no issues with the latest nov 08 release macbook pro
Just wanna have some explanation : Iphone firmware 2.2 comes with a baseband update, we already know that it fix the hardware unlock but what we don't know is if it 'll harden the work of your software unlock and if it comes with more functionalities and improvements ?
can you provide us with some explanattion ?
thanks a lot.
Small issue.
Upon updating and running 2.2 and QuickPwn (Mac) there is no installer or Cydia and I can't SSH into the phone.
I've run QuickPwn twice.
My issue, was that before the update I had cydia and Installer "Poofed" by BossPrefs, and it seems that updating to 2.2 erased BossPrefs.
I know if I open Safari and type beejiveim://
then Beejive will open.
I have a 2G iphone with software v. 2.0(5A347) custom firmware running on FIDO. Software unlocked...
Do I seriously just upgrade to 2.2 with itunes and then use winpwn?
http://thebigboss.org/guides/how-to-upgrade-in-...
I'm having some issues though... creating my custom ipsw works fine, but as soon as I boot into DFU mode and try to option-click restore and select the custom firmware, I get a 1600 error code. After reverting back to the genuine Apple 2.1 update and trying to option-click restore without going into DFU mode, I get the same error. I have just tried to use the Pwnage tool and clicked "no" when asked if I had pwned my phone before, and after getting into DFU mode I got error code 21. I've put genuine 2.1 software back onto my iPhone but am not sure why it's not working?
Any ideas?
D
Thanks guys!
I simply switched my I phone back to normal mode... and then pressed the option key and told iTunes to restore my iPhone with the custom FW and...
it worked. After this, iTunes asked to configure as a new iPhone or to restore from backup - I choosed from a backup.
Now I am going to restore my apps from cydia AND: ONCE AGAIN: Thanks for your work!!!!!!
YOU ARE THE GREATEST
Any Workaround?
upgrade from JB 2.1 FW -> JB 2.2 FW
on a 3G iphone that activates automatically
using 1000MB partition and various cydia apps preloaded (one of them being sauriks 5 dock icon)
and my now my springboard only shows the basic iphone apps, no installer/cydia/terminal/etc...
bugs?
Now what?
Oh and when i restored , iTunes said i had to activate.
Shit, i guess i shoulda just left it alone in 2.1.
When I tryed just doing a regular restore with no pwn, it activated. and so I made a second ipsw and made sure to click "activate" in the pwn tool. but still no luck..
I am in Canada using a 'Roger iPhone' 3G with a Fido SIM...
:(
I wil try again tomorow morning, with a new custom restore.
10 000 Thanks devTeam :)
First I would say a big thanks to Dev Team. They are the best, no doubt. And we need to support them even if it's not financially. These guys rock!
The reason why we are all have the problem is because of the over zealous Apple team. these guyz make a killing on people and the would, if given a chance, monopolize the phone industry. but at least we have Dev Team.
my suggestion is this: We can force these as$ holes to reprice their pricey phones and free them to the public. We can do that by sealing the loop holes that make them benefit from locking these phones. We can bankrupt that silly apps store that milk cash from us by creating similar applications on Cydia or installer. I cant stand the apple guyz they truly get into my nerves.
Also we need to listen to the Dev Team. When they say DO NOT do xyz, please let us stick to that these guys wish us nothing but the best. I realized that a lot of people refused to listen to them.
Any suggestions on how to force apple to bankruptcy....?
As far a monopolizing the phone industry that's funny. Innovating yes, most definitely; monopolizing, watch any phone ad, they all try to be the iPhone.
Bankrupting Apple, not possible unless you get an accountant position a cook their books. Their market shares in everything is constantly growing and they are constantly creating new markets (see iPhone and iPod) and innovating the others.
If you don't like Apple don't buy their products...and don't buy Pixar films

Im using expert mode, here is the log of pwange:

But when we'll see software unlock for 3G?
Jailbreak: will work
sim proxy or potential soft unlock: won't work
so there is no way to downgrade the baseband ?
And when u say wont work, is that just for now or forever.
Will I be able to use it after using Quickpwn (Windows).
Does it also activates my iphone as well because I am using it outside the USA and on non approved operator.
i have one question: Apple updated the bootloader for the 3G, so what does that man? Do you have to hack the bootloader again, and all your work youve done the last months is useless (i mean the work on hacking baseband and try to unlock the 3g). Do we have to wait another 4 months or longer, till youve hacked the baseband again, or how should i understand that?
greetings from austria

I have a pwnagetool'd 3G 2.1 running perfectly. When Apple comes out with something new we all feel like we NEED to get it. Maybe instead of risking a bricked phone or invisible cydia, or future soft unlocks, maybe just wait a little longer for a better pwnage tool. Because for real is there anything in 2.2 that is that great?
I like my pdanet (tethering), 5 icon dock, and the best 3rd party app, the flashlight.
Thats all I need for now, good luck with everyone
/Users/username/Libary/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/
is this bad if i want to use the software unlock in the future?
Everthing works fine. Now it is 2.2 and Basband still on 02.11.07.
Sim Adapter works an everthing else also.
Many thanks and regards go to the DveTeam
thanks
First af all Big Big Thx to Devteam excellent work ;)
So after that, i use pwnagetool for my 3G custom firware build well , restore good too , but after reboot iphone No Signal with SFR Carrier , So with other like Orange it's good i have signal , ...Any idea please ?
I have a few questions because I am new to the process of jailbreaking: When I jailbreak and later on, there is an update from apple - will all of my apps be gone, when I update? Will they continue to exist just like the Appstore apps do, when I update?
Are you working on the iPod Touch any time soon now?
Thanks again
but im a bit confused by some of the choices on offer.
I currently have a jailbroken 3g iphone running running 2.1 fw. i am looking to update to firmware 2.2 but am unsure what i should do. what are my choices or what do i need to do? do i update via itunes then run quickpwn or do i just run quickpwn. and what will this mean in the longterm in terms of unlocking? and what is a soft unlock (and therefore hard unlock)? please advise. thanks
So, if you don't care about this and are happy to stay on the official carrier, update to firmware 2.2 using iTunes and then QuickPwn to jailbreak.
If you do want the potential ability in the future to unlock the phone via software, use PwnageTool to create a custom firmware file, removing the baseband update, that you can then restore using iTunes.
Something I don´t understand: (WINDOWS/iPhone 3G with Carrier Lock and Simlock-Adapter)
You write: "do NOT use QuickPwn" but with which software should a
Windows User build the new .ipsw without the new Baseband.
Ist there now way for a Windows-User to build a right one or is the WinPwn2.5ß2 the right one 4 it ?
Thxs
thanks.
Muchos Gracias BTW, Great Work!
I got a problem pwning my 2G iPhone on a late 2008 MacBook :-/
Previously, it was a QuickPwned 2.1 (Win) working perfectly.
What I did:
- Restore to 2.2 in iTunes (8.0.2)
- Try QuickPwn -> got stuck where DFU Mode get's activated (of course...)
- Try PwnageTool -> Created Custom IPSW (increase Partition size, tried with and without Bootneuter (I guess I don't need it as my Phone still seems to be unlocked?)) -> Recovery Mode -> Restore to Custom FW -> Error 21
Does anyone have an Idea how to unbrick? I can still Restore to Original FW in iTunes, but whenever I wanna use Custom FW, I get Error 21 after a while...
No other machine available over here.. :-/
Is it an issue with Itunes 8.x?
Does a USB Hub really help with DFU mode?
Thanks for ANY help!
Stop blaming ppl for not reading the instructions before reading their posts properly please.
Thx.
- Restore to original 2.2 in iTunes
- visit a friend and bring a beer (but drink responsibly! ;-) )
- get hold of his pc, run Quickpwn (Win)
- done
is that your best time yet for the update ?
Thanks again for the hard work and dunno about if we can start own irc server ? if yes, then i can help :)
Baseband-less 2.2 Firmware-Version ?
If there´s a way, wich programm can we use ????
If Windows User aren´t able to build a right Firmware-File, perhaps
it´ll be useful to write it in the text above.
Thxs DEV-Team!
I'm baffled! I first restored my 1st gen iphone using itunes 8.0, then ran the quickpwn 22-1 on it, along with the unlock option at the beginning. Everything went great, but I swapped out my Vodaphone SIM and it said it was an unregistered SIM (something like that).
Did I miss something? I'm so close!
Any clues ?
=(
THE IPOD TOUCH DEMONSTRATION GROUP
That made my day: D
Maybe theres hope for a christmas present, or maybe a new years gift, hell maybe a valentines box of pwn :P
Its nice to know that the ipod will still be looked at. Although i think you guys should take a break. You've been working alot on the 3g unlock.
is there a way to get service with my sim??
dont we need it for windows..??? plz clear
Just some feedback. I'm using a 2G phone. Activated using PwnageTool 2.1 then updated to 2.2 using iTunes.
Somehow phone is still working without even using QuickPwn 2.2.
Is this a known side effect ?
Lloyd
By the way It seems you guys are realy good at what you do
Pierre
Never thought this release was coming so early, you ROCK!
Regards from Argentina,
Matias
They're still in sync progress but it seemed to work fine. THANX!
Maybe you should add a short how-to for recovery or DFU-Mode in that blog-entry too. Maybre someone's gonna read it...
Thanks in advance
Thank you so much!!!!!

Any ideas?
Its telling me
"DIFFERENT SIM DETECTED, please connect to itunes.", then it has me open itunes which then says "THE SIM CARD INSERTED IN THIS IPHONE DOES NOT APPEAR OT BE SUPPORTED."
Help me! How do I get into the IRC channel as well?
Thank you guys,
Curt
Suggest you to try one of the follow: (a) try to clear the pin password from your SIM, in another phone set, or (b) try to repeat process in your iPhone with another, non-pin locked vodaphone SIM.
Just tryin around...
Any ideas what I can do?
Do you think I can restore again using itunes to remove the QuickPwn, then RE-QuickPwning with the Vodaphone SIM in it?
For iPhone 3G, if you want to retain your current baseband, you cannot use QuickPwn.
I'm bummed!
Any other problems, jump in the IRC channel and ask for help unlocking your iPhone 2G.
It worked!!! Anyone else having the same problem, you need to do two things..
1) Make sure you remove the lock from your sim card using another phone.
2) restore using DFU mode. I couldnt get it into the right mode until I watched this video: http://www.appstoreapps.com/2008/09/22/iphone-t... Then it finally went into restore mode without the USB icon coming up. I restored, reQUICKpwnd and whammy.
Thank you guys so much for your help, all of you. I love it.
It rocks just fine with swiss carriers to...
Thank you for spending all this time to help us getting a free iPhone in a not so free Word! Just love pineapples every day a bit more ;-)
Im confused on what you folks meant:
The ‘late 2008’ MacBook/air/pro line of computers have an issue with DFU mode. While it’s possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> Pwned 2.2 (using PwnageTool), you can’t yet go from stock to pwned. If in any doubt use a different machine.
What is Stock to Pwned? Could you explain this?
Thank You From Hawaii.. --- You Guys Rock!
summary: you can't pwn an iphone that's never been pwned on a new macbook, but you can upgrade if it's been pwned before
nothings gonna ever keeeep you dooown
youre the best arooooound
Thnaks !
Works superb on 2g iphone
Already pwned (activated, unlocked,JB iphone 2G) to 2.1 using pwnage.
Didnt want cydia or installer for the time being.
Just followed the following steps.
1. Open itunes
2. Connect iphone
3. iphone prompts that 2.2 firmware is available.
4. Hit restore
5. Done
6. Simple !!!!
Can always use quickpwn (windows) later if I want cydia/installer, no ?
thanks dev-team.

cheers.
You guys are just amazing!
Only 2 days to wait for the newest firmware... wow, my 1st Gen. iPhone is now brandnew - since it's your fault! :-D
Many thanks from germany + go on as this in the future!
What can I do now?
Restored with downloaded firmware, restored backup of my settings, synced appstore apps.
Opened quickpwn, and still the same "selected firmware does not match firware on your device" error.
First difference from quickpwn2.1 is that when I ran it, it didn't allready point to firmware witch was in the same directory as quickpwn. 2.1 was very nice with this thing. oh, whell - so I hit browse, pointed to firmware (thinking that it's pointing to the same directory with that browse screen), and it gives me the same "wrong version" message.
Then I noticed that when I press browse on quickpwn does not 'point' to the same directory - instead it points to some weird itunes firmware update folder. I switched it to the 'right' one, and bingo - it works!
bottom line - be very careful, and just don't click next-next-next as usual in windows, but pay attention. and - why doesn't quickpwn point to firmware in the same folder as it is located (as was in 2.1)?
p.s. - big thanks - everything is working perfectly!!!
well - still thanks for this wonderful tool. got back all my cydia apps, so i'm happy. and thank's again! you guys still amaze me - you pretty much must be geniuses!
Edit - yes, while I made a mistake not having a 'nice' error message, it basically means the firmware isn't recognised, or it's corrupted somehow. Redownload it.
Works great!
Thank you Dev Team.
.....awaiting to software unlock....
Works great!
Thank you Dev Team.
i am on orange uk everything works on 2.1 with universal sim
am i right in saying if i dont update the baseband it will continue to work?
Right now my 3G is just an expensive iPod..........
a) Run Pwnange Tool 2.21
b) In simple mode - select iPhone 3G -> Select the 2.2 ipsw (DL from Apple)
c) When prompted "Do I have a iPHone 3G contract and normally activate through iTunes" -> Select NO.
d) Type in Mac OS X admin Password
e) Done - iPhone custom ipsw created.
f) In iTunes - use Cmd-Restore and manually select the custom ipsw that just been created.
Is that all correct ?
Cheers guys for your time and trouble! You rock!!
The custom firmware did not include the 2.2 baseband THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can you provide a link for the custom firmware? I don´t know where to download it. And I´m scared if someone just links to a normal 2.2-firmware with baseband-update included.
Thx a lot!
Thanks in advance
Have fun, all windows-users!
After having read through about 750 comments here, I would like to ask for a clarification about the 3G iPhone network unlocking. I understand that updating the baseband to 02.28.00 will damage my prospects of using a Dev Team software unlock in the future. My question is slightly different.
I have a 3G iPhone which is currently locked to the Optus network in Australia. I do not have a Mac, and therefore cannot use PwnageTool to jailbreak firmware version 2.2 while preserving the 02.11.07 baseband. Regardless, I would like to upgrade to the new baseband to take advantage of whatever improvements have been made to call quality / dropouts / etc (if any).
So, my questions:
a) If I update the baseband to 02.28.00 using QuickPwn, would Optus still be able to unlock my iPhone?
b) If I have Optus unlock my iPhone first, will the iPhone remain unlocked after updating the baseband to 02.28.00?
Put another way:
c) Will updating the baseband to 02.28.00 prevent me from ever unlocking my iPhone, or will it only prevent me from using a Dev Team soft-unlock?
Thank you.

Any clues?
u are great, but u allready know that from all this posts
great work,keep on...
i restored my iphone3g with custom firmware of pwnage tool. i now have 2.2 with all my 3rd party apps. but the problem is YOUTUBE won´t work.
any advice?
thx
i can NOT update to modified 2.2 without baseband update using WINDOWS ?!
I have a tmobile locked 3g running on 2.1 .. i need your help guys :(
i had a 2.1 jailbroken phone, then i downloaded the latest quickpwn for 2.2, i chose the UPDATE option as it shows I can do above in iTunes, and then I ran the new quickpwn tool and i am now successfully back at a jailbroken 2.2 fully working phone, HOWEVER......
all of my installed cydia apps /themes/icons are gone from the home screen, but still are on the phone's hard drive....
is there a way to make them appear again? or am i stuck restoring to delete it all and having to reinstall EVERYTHING all over? i tried to SSH back in with no luck....
Maybe the ability to retain customizations and cydia programs are lost with every upgrade and I just havent seen anything that states that yet...
thanks to anyone who can answer this question for me....
that way i only have to recustomize my icons/home screen...
Thanks Rob!
Sorry if it's a stupid question...
Thanks :)

I'd like to update to 2.2 but am on windows and don't have pwnage tool.
I don't want top update through itunes because i don't want to risk losing the ability
to do a soft unlock in the future how do i go about getting to 2.2 without messing anything up? or must i wait for winpwn?
i have always used the pwnage tool/quickpwn and have lost all my cydia, installer and cracked ssh apps.
but i want to keep them this time, how do i do this?
thanks dev team, you rock :)
Do any of you think you can help me out? I've tried downgrading to 2.1, but no methods seem to work. Will the devteam come out with something in the future to jailbreak 2.2?
Thank you do much

Any help will be so much appreciated!!
Worked for me.
Thank you and greetings from Germany!
I have a windows xp system so i cant use the Mac PwnageTool to create a custom .ipsw to preserve my baseband.
Will the non updated winpwn tool preserve the baseband too? or wil it just create a custom firmware?
The winpwn tool does have an option for the custom 2.02 ipsw
Anyone???
Please help, thanks.

iPhone 3G with PWnage 2.2 updated. Now no calls possible. :(
"Kein Netz" - "No Net"/"NO GSM" (don't know translation in english) instead of T-Mobile.
Please, please help.
Then maybe is it worth taking the risk and updating the baseband as well?
Please email me the response at t3mur@aol.com since i wont be tracking the answers in this commentary wilderness.
Here's my stats: 2G iPhone, previously unlocked & Jailbroken. Was running 2.0 with T-Mob as carrier.
Here's my experience: Started process last night. "Update"ed through iTunes to 2.2. It started to add 2.2 to my phone, then went into it's normal "Backing up iphone," which took so long I went to bed. When I woke up, my iPhone was on 2.2, and it still showed t-mobile (I left my T-Mob SIM card in the whole time). I made a call, and everything was fine. Then ran Quickpwn on my Mac Pro (intel - quad-core). Took a few minutes, but everything went perfect. I now have cydia, installer, my old cracked apps (had to SSH them again - but worth it), and phone works flawlessly on t-mobile.
Hope this helps a few of you.
Here's my question :
I have an factory officially unlocked Iphone 3G. If I do the 2.2 update with Itunes and then use QuickPwn, then Cydia and Installer will be brought again on the springboard. But will the jailbroken apps previously installed on the Iphone with Cydia and Installer also stay as before ?
Thanks for your help !
anyone knows a easy method to backup jailbroken apps... please share...
everything works ok!
because installing all over again using cydia is relatively slow a process. please help
This will be the first restore atempt (after upgrade to 2.2, which I should do later today).
I'll post a followup as the proccess ends..
It means that, if you have apps like iLog or something, it will not preserve the data, you should do this manually for every 3rd party app
I learned that the hard way, my wife used to control periods with iWoman, now (after loosing all data after 2.1 upgd.) she's pregnant....owch.
does the bootloader thing affect me, or just iphone 3G users?
Hi i have a question. i have a custom iphone 3g running fw 2.1

Anyone???
Thank you all very much for all what you did, you do and will do for our iphone...
Congratulation for your skills about the iphone... and to let us profite...
Vinz from Paris, FR
How should I turnaround this?
This is what I have to do until someone can help me figure out how to get quickpwn to work with the late 2008 macs
I'm having exactly the same problem. How can we use QuickPwn, if to use QuickPwn we need to go into DFU?
GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
You've said that we shouldn't use quickpwn, but I do not understand if this affects all fw or just fw 2.2? I have locked 3G 2.1 jailbreaked with quickpwn 2.1. So now I shouldnt upgrade to 2.2 and jailbreak this fw if I want soft unlock, or I already won't be able to unlock my phone because I already jailbreaked it with quickpwn 2.1?
PoorladRob suggests using the Pwnage Tool on another PC. Has anyone successfully done this? Are there any issues with syncing, etc?
Too many question marks here guys.
but I use all-tone sim card to make it usable in Taiwan.
So could any1 please confirm that with all-tone sim card, is it workable with 2.2 firmware + pwnagetool(my laptop is Ibook G4 lol, an oldie......)?
thanks for your help =)
ive successfully upgraded to 2.2 without modifying the baseband.
now all i wait for is the iphone 3G unlock. you guys are the best.
so i have a question. when the unlock comes out, what do i have to do?
make a custom, unlocked 2.2 firmware again, and then restore my phone again?
thanks again!
Tried with itunes 8.0.1 and updated to latest 8.0.2 (20) and still unable to restore the firmware on my 3G iPhone...
I am using Pwnagetool 2.2.1 on mac osx 10.5.5 with itunes 8.0.2 and each time in DFU mode I am getting the 1600 error, any suggestions?
Great work Dev Team keep the hacks coming
Thanx in advance!
but im thinking that ill get pretty good answers from this group of people.. so heres the question
how do i apply themes on my iphone?
ive downloaded one of the internet on my computer, but i was wondering how to actually apply that..
and if there are other ways to do it, like install an app on my phone, then please tell me.
thanks
Now I don't know how to install a theme from a file on your computer but to install them directly on your phone do this:
Open Cydia again and go to sections where you can choose from plenty of themes.
I downloaded the QuickPwn 2.2, but which do I do first?
Do I update my software, then jailbreak it again? Or do I do the QuickPwn 2.2 then update my software?
I don't want to lose my themes and stuff.
should i use pwnage tool? if not what should i do i cant tell whether the dev team is asking me to not do it or not
thanks
ganef
I found that using a usb hub the macbook late 2008 works just fine with QuickPWN - when it's done uploading those 115 Kb and trying to release to DFU you need to take it out and put it into the macbook directly fast - then it finishes fine :)
Greetz,

Or will it be a RESTORE to a jailbroken 2.2 with only Installer and Cydia?
I got a Custom Firmware, I can use it to restore in Itunes using Shift-Click, it restores fine, but phone comes back unactivated.
Im using Proxy-Sim, so I rely on QuickPwn to activate it, but I cant use QuickPwn on windows with that custom firmware, it just gives me "Error Firmware String"
Thank you DevTeam for all your hard work and dedication.
Once the unlock is eventually released, will we be able to do firmware updates in iTunes like any other factory unlocked iPhone or will the apple software still be able to tell that it was hack-unlocked and re-lock it?
When eventually I do upgrade to 2.2 by using QuickPwn, will it just upgrade my phone without any changes to any of my applications or will format the phone and install as a complete new rom?
I guess it's at least not possible using QuickPWN since I have to update before using iTunes.
But would it be possible with a pwned Firmware created by Pwnange Tool?
I ,after many failed attempts, got my iPhone 3G on AT&T into 2.2 jailbroken. My only problem is now i have lost signal. I may have accidently left the activation box checked, but I believe i did this on the 2.1 and it still worked. Anyway i can fix it, hopefully without having to restore again.
Thanks
I am an AT&T customer and after jailbreaking the 2.2 firmware and updating my phone, no signal :-(.
HTH
Also Congrats yet again Dev team :D.
I have posted about 5 times, and cannot see the posts (:-((
I would need to know - as I am on xp - what would a friend with an apple need?
1. Itunes
2. pwangetool 2.2.1
3. Original fw 2.2
Anything else?
Ruben
What you need is:
1. iTunes 8.01 (or 8.02)
2. Quickpwn 2.2.1
3. An .ipsw (firmware-) file for 2.2. Use Google to find it.
I was asking what a friend with an apple would need to do the job for me !!
Ruben
By the way - is there a quickpwn 2.2.1 -only see 2.2
and I used it with T-mobile
but I updated the firmware to 2.2 thru itunes yesterday which rlly screwed me
so what should I do now??
cheers from switzerland
I have a new iPhone 3g with the latest firmware installed, 2.2 -- attempted to jailbreak with QuickPwn -- all goes fine until the program reaches the point where it asks you to wait until the iPhone connects in recovery mode. It never proceeds to tell me to "Hold the home button for 5 seconds" etc etc. My iPhone goes into recovery mode, it shows the USB Plug pointing to iTunes on the screen, but the program never continues after that first line of Bold text. Tried restart, tried a different USB port, tried every common sense tactic I can think of.

Gracias desde España, amigo.
AN EXCELLENT WORK AND WONDERFUL
I have a 3G phone i AND I'M ALWAYS TO MEET YOUR ADVICE AND ALWAYS WITH YOU GOOD FOR ALL THE COURAGE TEAM
quickpwn says "The Pwnage process appears to have completed successfully. Please wait for your device to reboot in its newly modified state."
How long is this reboot process supposed to take? because I've been sitting here for a good 20-30 minutes
Thank you for your immediate help..
WE ARE WAITTING FOR YOU!!
HAVE A GOOD DAY~~
YOU ARE THE BEST!! dev-team`
Nobody can stop you :D - that's cool ;-)
Pwnage asks me to choose a firmware (in the first steps) and my choices are 2.0 and 2.1 firmwares...Which one do I choose or did I first need to download the 2.2 update? Thanks!
Could you please update your xPWN project? or is 0.3 still the current version? windows and linux users need their pwnage tool :|
waiting for unlocking :)
First attempt:
Upgraded with iTunes 8.0.1. Firmware upgraded successfully. Unlocked with signal.
Quickpwnage for Mac completed succesfully, but iphone keept on rebooting, saying a buzz sound once a while. Watched at least 5 reboots
Second attempt:
Upgraded to 8.0.2 (perhaps a mistake?):
Got into Restore mode (DFU?) after building a custom image with PwnageTool 2.2.1 (saying Yes to already pwnage) built in expert mode, but this keept on failing with error 1600.
Third attempt:
Downgraded to iTunes 8.0.1 and built a new image saying no to already pwnaged, this time in simple mode.
This worked!
The installer did want to downgrade, before deleting the current installed installation of iTunes, but moving it to Trash was enough.

what a bunch of stupid bastards, by the way. It's their fault that stupid mute switch broke off, why won't they take responsibility?!
anyways, great job! GOGODEVTEAM!
godspeed
BUT:
Cant find the aptBackup app in cydia, seems like the whole bigboss repo is down?
Any suggestions as how to proceed from here? I would really love to avoid the hassel of installing all my Cydia apps again.
No bossprefs or aptbackup available in cydia.
May we install them manually ?
Can anybody tell me how to go back to 2.1 firmware?
iPhone 3G with PWnage 2.2 updated. Now no calls possible. :(
"NO Service" in Screen-Headline.
Ideas?
Please help.
I use PwnageTool and make a Custom Firmware with the Activation hack UNCHECKED and let iTunes activate the iPhone. Now it works! :D
Don't understand why DevTeam checked it/don't inform about that. :(
be more detailed you will get help
any idea what to do? I keep getting 'No Service'
Thanx "Just One" - just have to uncheck Aktivation in PWnage. ;)
Just one question. I get the whole concept of upgrading via Pwnage vs. Itunes. BUT, aside form that, is it safe to get iTunes itself upgraded to 8.2? Must it remain as 8.0.1 for use with Pwnage? No one seems to be addressing this.
Thanks.
anybody knows how to deal with this problem??
pls...
it says no service
if I put it in with the turbo sim
it says no sim card inserted........
Perfectly working on my 2G.
Many thanks!
But i do thank you for all your hard work put into the project.
I did this on a previously Pwned 2G at 2.1 and i didn't even need to run QuickPwn

Some friends and I seem to have the same problems with 2.2.
We can`t access the BigBoss-Repo - We can see it in Cydia, but there are no packages in it.
Neither a new installation of the source nor a complete restore of the phones did help.
We all have the 2G iphones.
Another friend wo has the iPhone 3G has no problems at all with 2.2. and BigBoss-Repo
thanks for your swift answer. How can i update the app info to get BigBoss to work?
Best wishes
I am new to JailBreaking and I have few doubts:
I am using iphone 3g Locked and I don't have MAC machine.Also I upgraded to 2.2 firmware
1) I can use QuickPwn for jailbreaking in windows.
2) QuickPwn will not unlock Carrier.
3) I dont want to unlock carrier now but may be 3 months later.
4) Is it good to jailbreak now?
5) What extra I will get after jail breaking?
6) How is performance impact after installing cydia , installer and other jail broken applicaiton.?
When one Jailbreaks a phone, does the jailbreak modify/add to the existing firmware, OR, does it replace some of the new firmware files with some older files from previous firmwares that have been modified before.
My reasoning in asking is this: does a Jailbreak, in any way, revert the firmware back to previous versions of firmware, and in doing so, carry along the bugs of the previous firmware.
My 2.1 jailbroken phone felt buggy and sluggish compared to a clean formatted 2.1 phone. Thanks for your time, and your work is greatly appreciated.
Please I want it, and I think I'm not the only one.
Thanks
thanks dev team <3
I had upgraded the iPhone first to 2.2 using iTunes with whatever it downloaded from Apple
When running Quickpwn22, I pointed it to the same ipsw file it used for upgrading
Should I have used an ipsw file like the one I grabbed from iClarified.com? Or is there something different?
All help appreciated
Anyone have an issue launching Cydia?
How'd you fix it?
Thanks!
For what it's worth.. if others are having issues with Cydia crashing on launch, here's how to fix it....
Build a new IPSW and ONLY CHOOSE THE CYDIA package to install. Do not install any other software in the ipsw, just Cydia. You'll then have to download and install the other items from Cydia after the restore is complete.
i was hopeful but now dashed as i was basically back to normal only sans cydia (ie sorting through tons bullshit)
I used quickpwn22 on a 3G iPhone purchased in Belgium (=it is officially unlocked for all carriers out of the box) and after the quickpwn22 run that otherwise worked fine: "No Service". I got normal service again after a factory restore with iTunes. The steps I used:
Upgraded to 2.2 with iTunes and file downloaded from Apple site
Used quickpwn22 using that same ipsw file
I followed on-screen instructions and all worked fine it seemed, except ...
Anything I missed?
Well yes, I have to use the proper ipsw file like the one I downloaded from iClarified .com ... I got fooled by the fact that the original and modified ipsw files have the same name and the quickpwn22 as a default pointed to the iTunes upgrade directory rather than somewhere else.
~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
Eventually, Pawnage Tool 2.2.1 lets me locate the .ipsw file and defaults to the correct directory (raising the question of why it couldn't be found in the first place). So I'm building a custom ipsw file and wondering why QuickPwn didn't work for me.
I Pwnd previsouly 2.1 to 2.2 and everything is worked fine exept Cydia.
Everytime when I select any option it crashes.
Then I QiuckPwnd my iPhone 2G and now Cydia is working.
A lot of people are not able to install any of the apps in the repo.
Question is, if this is a problem with the firmware or the repo itself?
I fuck off my iphone 3g :-(
Is going DevTeam working to create a procedure to downgrade? please.
Please I really need help, what are the bootloaders?
I couldnt find any answers here.
I have a question regarding to use of GEVEY SIM in iphone 3G with firmware 2.2
I have downloaded PwnageTool 2.2.1, and created my own custom firmware!
Now my question is whether that custom firmware will be fully functional with my GEVEY SIM solution?
Please, i just need some input, I've been browsing all iphone forums since new JB tool released but couldn't find a definite answer! Some says don't update, some says no problem with update...
iPhone 2G worked without a hitch (I wonder why people are having so trouble with this).
On a Mac - itunes 8.0.2 + IPSW 2.2 + PwnageTool 2.2.1 = create custom IPSW > move to library/itunes/iPhone Software Updates - Plug in iphone & click Restore.
Keep up the excellent work /devs
How do yuo open DMG files :P
Patrick
(V1 user)
Thanks.
Maybe after the first soft unlock is out, they will find a way to break the 2.2 baseband, but it is unknown at this point.
Problem 2: Waiting 4 a downgrade possiblity to BB cause i've 2.2 on my new iPhone.
PwnageTool for windows please!!
This is for 3g with Cyndia crashing.
I tried it and it work with baseband still at 01.45.00.
First. Creat IPSW with Pwnage Tool and restore in iTunes. Cyndia crashes
Then. Run QuickPwn. Cyndia works fine and baseband stay at 01.45.00
This process worked for me and I hope it work for you guys.
2.1 (jb) -> 2.2 official (itunes 8.0.2 windows) -> 2.2 jb using quickpwn (windows).
I'm on the official carrier so no need for unlock.
Great work guys!
But this guys are good and soon or later they will "work" this baseband.
Complain to Apple....
i did the expert mode but chose to activate the phone like a moron then when i was done i got NO SERVICE then did the simple mode and got the emergency call only . upgraded to pwnagetools 2.2.1 .... built me a new thingy
this time did it right and now my iphone is working
Try recovery mode (plug-in your USB, turn off the phone, hold just the home botton, unplug USB)
you should be in recovery mode with the USB and the apple sign.
Now option+resotre and test it out.
This has to be the shittiest firmware that I have encountered on a phone. It is buggy, effing slow and Safari crashes regularly.
SHAME ON YOU JOBS AND YOUR EMPLOYEES.
I have just used Quicpkwn22 to upgrade it and what a breath of fresh air. The device is twice the speed it was, if not more, and is a joy to use.
Thanks Dev team for your continued work and Jobber the Tosser for a half decent firmware AT LAST.
I've, for some reason, had situations before where QuickPwn, was trying to do something when my iPhone wasn't working, suddenly shocked the iPhone back into working order. I don't attempt to explain it... it just works sometimes.
Try Recovery mode.
So, summing up, If you were using TurboSIM; You´re screwed!!! At least for a considerable amount of time...
By the way, how did that "ACCIDENT" happened??? We´re all curious... How something so infortunate could happen to you???
http://www.hacktheipodtouch.com
1)you have it hidden.
2)you need to quickpwn
Solution1:
1.Make sure you install SSH on your iPhone when your running PwnTool 2.2 (OpenSSH)
2.Upload BossPrefs.app and unhide cydia or installer
2)Upload Categories.app and take those files out of the folders
Soluction 2:
1.QuickPwn the phone after you make a custom IPSW and there ya go..
i updated it to 2.2 before i found this site and i downloaded quickpwn and ran it everything seems like it worked but its not recognizing my network... what do i do plz assist meeee
Thanks
Thank you.
M
Have a pleasant day
Matthawke, an official unlock by a legitimate iPhone carrier, such as Optus, will always be fine whatever the baseband version is. This is an unlock that's done through your carrier and iTunes and is entirely legitimate.
The soft unlock, an unofficial unlock in development for those that don't have the privilege of having a carrier who will unlock, is what's affected by the baseband update in 2.2.
M
I've tried rolling back my install to version 2.1 but it still has the SAME problem. I will try rolling all the way back to 1.1.4 and see how we go. but has anyone come across this before? Itd be great to have a working iphone again.....
please help me Devteam!
bad news though, i just rolled back to v2.0.2 using a custom ipsw from a few months ago. but now itunes wont even recognise the device...argh!
Thank you for supporting those who wants to keep their iphone liberated.
i want 3g software unlock,i can not use my iphone,i can not find turbosim in my country...
can you say something about when will 3g software unlock be...
thank you.
"GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool."
isnt pwnage tool already a soft unlock?
Is this the expected message I should get since I am still on 2.1? Please clarify. Thanks.
MacFly
I am running under win xp studend edition ... if that matters.... problem is whenever i try to run pwnage it showes an error: " the application failed to initialize properly etc".
I have itunes 8.1 installed but i can not get this program to work.
So anyone .... help.... any sugestion is more than welcomed right now.
10x
otherwise all your apps and cydia and installer disapear and dont return,
im having to resotre my iphone then reinstal the jailbreak. hopefully. that will finaly fix the whole problem.
but no edge connection since updating to 2.2?
(t-mobile d)
any ideas?
thx for help
*tigermurmel*
Now, itunes thinks they are installed but they don't show up. I did a restore firmware after update with full sync and watched as it reinstalled the missing apps from itunes but they are not there. Did a full power down and back up to no avail.
I tried the new quickpwn 2.2 but once it determined the type of phone, it didn't do anything. didn't quit, just didn't do anything i could see.
ideas??
if i get it jailbroken again, will Categories see the missing folders and apps?
any way to make the apps visible again?
I did the same stupid thing as you. Gibbles posted the fix below and it worked great. I couldn't get into ssh either to fix it. Here's what he posted:
"If settings is available, run that. Enable restrictions, disable restrictions. All your apps will be visible. If settings was hidden, SSH into /var/mobile/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.springboard.plist. If you cannot SSH search the internet find and download iPhone Browser. Navigate yourself over to /var/mobile/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.springboard.plist... Compliments of BigBoss' Website ..."
i want 3g soft unlock...
i can not use my iphone, and can not find sim solitions in my country...
can you say something about when will 3g soft-unlock be...
thank you...
Upgraded to 2.2 through Itunes.
Lost all Cydia APPS.
In the ABOUT tab it shows the correct new Firmware, but google maps does not seem to show Street View :( Thanx APPLE.
Ran QuickPwn22-1 installer.
The installer finished but Cydia and Installer was not added to the phone.
What can i do?
Then wait a second, disable the restrictions, then go back to home. BANG Cydia is there.
now i have to reinstall allllllll thoes cydia apps i installed a long time ago.
what do i do??
So again, can quickpwn unlock + jailbreak the iphone 1G ?
For OS X users, it's probably easier just to restore to a custom ipsw created via PwnageTool 2.2.1.
If for some reason you don't want to do that, you need to run BootNeuter after running the OS X QuickPwn. Look through my other replies on how to do this, though really it's easier on OS X to just let BootNeuter do it's thing automatically via PwnageTool.
everything works fine apart from when I install new apps it comes up with :
"***** was not installed because iphone could not be veried " im using itunes 8.0 is this the problem or do i need another mobile installation hack to get new apps to install.?
Thanks

But having another problem. Do you think, it will be üossible in the nera future to downgrade the baseband 02.28.00 to the last one?!
A short feedback would be great! Many thanks to you..
help?
Download and update with itunes then create a custom firmware with quickpwn and then use itunes to restore with quickpwn firmware??? Right?
Could I just download 2.2 with itunes then go directly to quickpwn and select the freshly download firmware and do it that waY?
ta
QuickPwn doesn't create custom firmwares. PwnageTool does. In addition, neither PwnageTool nor QuickPwn actually update your phone to a newer firmware; you still need iTunes to do this.
Download only(not update) firmware v2.2...Then use pwnage tool to jailbreak that firmware, it's then put your phone into DFU mode..then you RESTORE that custom firmware with itunes
You can download 2.2 directly from ituens and use quickpwn to jailbreak it. This way will update your baseband and can not be unlocked later on
If QuickPwn cannot find the correct file, we'll try to download them automatically.(another plural reference)
How many firmware bundles are there, one or more than one? I believe that they are located at:
~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
... and that the file QuickPwn is looking for there is named, "iPod1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw"
Am I mistaken about that?
I just upgraded to 2.2 using Pwnage 2.2.1. I used the "correct" firmware - NOT from Itunes. I used expert mode, etc. Followed directions on iClarify to the letter. It was previously Jailbroken as 2.1. So, where do I go from here?
Thanks
I just updated and jailbroke on my 1g iPhone. All of my old data from cydia (themes, tweaks, apps) are classified under "other" in itunes, meaning they are still in my phone, but I can't access ANY of it. Is there anyway I can delete it or make it available to use?
If I used Quickpwn to intially jail break my iphone to version 2.1, have I already destroyed my soft unlock possibilities?
thanks
I know you guys have probably answered this question already some where within the 1500+ comment. But it will be quite long for me to look through all so let me please apologize now.
My question is, will you guys ever work on making the soft-unlock possible on the new baseband for the 3G model.
Any answer will be very welcomed as it will determine if i chuck my iPhone in the bin or not.
p.s. i know i was very stupid to update without checking first. No one can hate themselves more than me at this present moment
Thanks and keep up the good work
Ruben
Okay so im trying to fix a 3G iphone that has been upgraded to 2.2. Prior to the upgrade it was Jailbroken. The user was using a GEVEY Turbo Sim prior to the upgrade, which i understand you dont reccommend.
I currently use a PC and i think this is my problem, but if someone can confirm - let me know.
I tried to Restore to 2.1 but everytime i try - i get error 1013. I also tried to restore to 2.0 and i get the same error. Im guessing apple was smart and I cant downgrade the Baseband on this phone. Weird thing is that even with the error 1013 - the Firmware says 2.1. I jailbroke it, but now the phone gets no Service using the Unlock Sim. Im assuming there is currently no fix for this - right?
I know on the 2G phones the baseband has no problem since its not upgraded during 2.2 .
Is there anyway to get the 3G baseband back prior to the 2.2 Upgrade? Or is it stuck for now?
your tip "Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn to do the magic, ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything." does not appear to work.
I updated from 1 to 2.2 on iTunes (latest version) on my iMac then used the quickpwn and while all apps work fine, the phone (unlocked several months ago with AnySim) does not work any longer. the carrier shows "no service" and under "settings" - network or general, I do not appear to be able to set my phone carrier..
Turn on "Neuter" and "Unlock", click flash, let it reboot once, run BootNeuter again, turn on "Neuter" and "Unlock" again, click flash. Don't interrupt the flashing process. When the iPhone reboots again, your carrier will be there.
In 2.2, BootNeuter has a bit of a conflict with CommCenter, so it sometimes freezes. If it does, try it again. Alternatively, run it as it was "meant" to be run: as part of a custom ipsw from PwnageTool or as one of the options in the Windows version of QuickPwn.
ssh -l root xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
password: alpine
chmod u+s /Applications/BootNeuter.app/BootNeuter
chown root:wheel /Applications/BootNeuter.app/BootNeuter
exit
Thats it! It had worked for me!
See the http://www.modmyi.com/forums/native-iphone-ipod...
Error:
Couldn´t talk to the bootloader.
This may be due to a CommCenter Collision So BootNeuter will exit.
I was restored too times, i was maked the quickpwn 2 times and nothing happend..
I Have NO SIGNAL...
And Bootneuter always crahs.
Someone please help me I want 2.2
Is there anything in 2.2 that is must have ?
I know www.iclarified.com have a tutorial for upgrading & jailbreak of an iPhone 3G using the PwnageTool - which updates the FW but preserves the existing baseband. B
But has anybody actually followed it and can verify that they are no missing steps etc.
Btw iPhone Dev guys ... To do all the stuff you do - you guys are super smart and super talented. A huuuge BIG-UP to you chaps.
simply switch your iphone back on again (normal mode) , then press alt+click in iTunes and choose the custom ipsw... then every thing will work...
The problems seems to be that the springboard backup file can't be understood because it's telling it that there should be 5 icons there but there are only 4 slots.
If that's not the problem, try reinstalling any other apps that you used to have that might have altered the springboard.
Is there something to enable so I can get that feature?
Also, I can't find the option for google street view in google maps.
Note: In System Preferences it does say I am on the 2.2 Firmware and the Safari and App Store have been updated with new features.
Thank you for your support
Have fun.
so.... i am wondering is there any update for the soft unlock?
We know that you guys are almost there, and there is already nothing technical prevents us reaching it.
how is the final piece of work going now?
Please help.
My question is does anyone have a reliable source where I can get a custom ipsw so that I can update?
As for the Dev Team, keep the good work
I have 2G
Updated to latest Itunes
Upgraded to 2.2
QuickPWN'd (Windows)
All went well until this last part where it just hangs. I even helf the home and power button to reset and still nothing. (Every now and then I get two short vibration alerts)
Please help!
Thanks

Sigh.
Think I'll wait a day or two before trying again.
if there is does quickpwn2.2 work for it because i already have the quickpwn2.2 downloaded and i have my ipod already updated to firmware2.2 but when ever it says to browse the ipsw file i find it and it says firmware error string, can someone help me or answer my questions
it says no sim..
I updated to 2.2 yesterday and then my it was locked...
then I quickpwn it today and everything works fine now except there is no calling function...

itunes8.0.1.11
windows XP
iphone firmware:2.11.07
thanks guys u rule!
U ROCK.
My question is can i upgrade my phone to 2.2 from 2.0 without getting it locked or bricked.
If yes pls tell me the simplest way possible( with or without baseband update)... Any help in this regards will be highly appreciated...
I have a factory unlocked 3G iPhone that I just upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 through iTunes and everything is working as it should be.
Also if i try updating with the custom 2.2 firmware, will this lock my iphone( iphone 3g, 2.0 ), if NO pls send me the link to download custom 2.2 firmware.
And if i have a factory unlocked iphone 3g, i can directly use itunes to upgrade to 2.2 without locking my phone.
if anybody can spare few valuable minutes, i'd really appreciate
Will the unlock again requiere a mac? I am on pc, will stay there and all coments of dev team are pointing to - no winpwn - get a friend with a mac or buy one yourself (:-((

What does it mean when it stays stuck on the pineapple screen and it vibrates every 3-4 seconds? Does this mean i didnt have a succsesfull Jailbreak?
Now when i plug into itunes it says im on restore mode. So i tried the shift command and i put the file i grabbed of here. and then i get the emergency call screen.
Can someone help me out?
Thanks
Mine wont move to the next step, it only puts my phone in recovery mode with the itunes logo and plug. and nothing else happends.
Does anyone have a fix for this?
Saludos!
Since the last time I posted my question I have not received any answers, so I decided to Quickpwn my ipod touch instead of my iphone to see what happened, and its a total disaster, because I followed the process, and I have being waiting for the ipod touch to restart for about 40 minutes, and the only thing I can see is a pineapple that flashes from time to time, and nothing happens, and I can not restore it because itunes does not recognizes it.
What is the problem what can i do.
Please help
I originally did the upgrade without baudband and now decided to go ahead with new baudband. IT IS CONFIRMED at least between me and 5 other friends that the NEW BAUDBAND IMPROVES INTERNET AND CALL QUALITY DRAMATICALLY, so the question is if you want that or not. :(
Avoiding upgrading the baudband is only for anyone that is not on AT&T anyway though, so those people are very few in number.
IT IS CONFIRMED that you have the INCORRECT name for the TECHNOLOGY that you are TALKING ABOUT.
ALSO REMEMBER that the IPHONE 3G is on SALE in many other COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD, so IN FACT there are MANY of 'THOSE PEOPLE'
PLEASE CONFIRM: IS your CAPSLOCK key BROKEN?
your post is sooo funny you should be a comedian
thank you for making me laugh
this would make ppl happy :
ROFL
Always remember that APPLE will pwn you in the end. TRY AGAIN, because thats all you can do.
The firmware installed on your iPod Touch is not sipported by QuickPwn, please check our website for further information.
But where can I check for that information.
The nice thing about the iPod Touch is that it's not brickable.
now the question.. is it possible to revert or any future solution for this? Any hope for the ones that screw it up????
It happened that a couple of times after upgrading the phone if i remove and insert the sim i got signal for several minutes and could make calls.
Jailbroken iPhone does really kick ass!
Is there a way to use it as an expensive iPod Touch until there will be either a software unlock or I buy a "turbo sim" or so?
Thank you in advance
Kindest regards,
Abdul_Hassan
Edit: well, ... should it be that simple? ;-)
Once again I have to say thank you VERY much to the iPhone-dev-team !!!
In the meantime my "iPod"PhoneTouchThing is syncing :-D ready for the unlock
Kindest regards

Please help
I'm having trouble with the custom firmware.
My iPhone 3G doesn't seem to be able to connect to my carrier anymore (Swisscom in Switzerland).
The information screen says Network: Not available
Baseband still 02.11.07
Anybody can help ?
I used PwnageTool 2.2.1 for the custom firmware
It the first time I'm using PwnageTool on my 3G but I had already used it on my 2G
I'll try again after unchecking it.
Thanks
Can you please just confirm, if my understanding is correct:
This is not a 3G unlock.
This is just a tool to update the 2.2 version without losing the ability to for soft unlock?
but I think I shall wait first for unlock, then shall update to 2.2
Think this is more safe for me )))
i have updated my 3G to 2.2
i open winpwn and it works fine throughout the entire process and then at the final step, when it says jailbreaking iphone, i have a window from windows popup that says the program has stopped working and it freezes.
ive done this twice, restoring my iphone with itunes prior to each attempt.
is there something im doing wrong??
using windows vista if that makes a difference....
thanks for any help you can provide
still.. nothing?
"If you are using your iPhone with one carrier and have no interest in the possibility of an iPhone 3G unlock in the near future then just restore or upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to Jailbreak and add Cydia and Installer."
Updated my jailbroken iPhone 3G v2.1 to v2.2 using the latest iTunes. Then, jailbroke by the latest QuickPwn. Cydia and Installer are there. I need to re-install iRealSMS and IntelliScreen, but the license information and configuration was preserved. One problem I found was; IntelliDial does not work. Other 3rd party applications worked fine.
because of the update the jailbreak is lost and has to be done again (quickpwn) while the unlock remains
you simply have to do quickpwn again
der unlock bleibt bei den 2g iPhones erhalten, aber cydia und seine apss sind bis Du erneut quickpwn ausführst, verloren
Regards freundliche Gruesse

However, I don't know why, after update following your instruction form 2.2 to 2.2, mail app and safari use to crash. For example, the iPhone tells me I have new emails and, as soon I open the app and receive the message, mail app closes irremediably!
Any suggestion, please?
Thanks again from Spain.
is there a Windows PwnageTool for 2.2
iTunes 8.0.2, Mac OS X.5 (up to date), iPhone 2G with OS 2.1, PB G4...
Enjoy it!
when i install apps now it says the the iphone can't be verified. how do i get that working again ?
thanks
Sim
They said it's more secure jailbreak for many people, are they very big differences between thoses two jailbreak ?
Unfortunatelly I cannot run BootNeuter (+swifi fix), since it crashes when I start it.
Is there going to be BootNeuter for iPhone 2.2?
Also what gives with the Apt Back-up program. That does not work. I found out the hard way. ( I know, wrong website to ask this question)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ix5gEKly6fQ
Ive got 3g and Quickpwn after 2.2 update on the itunes. Everything is ok. Apps run great, cydia OK, no problem at all.
Many thks and keep the good work in the " cat and mouse game"
Please, is there any solution to recovery the baseband after the update processo? Is someone working to recovery that?
thank you!
How many times do these guys have to tell you dont update, wait for a fix.
Everyone knows by now every updat breaks unlocks...
How do you guys manage to Jailbreak/Unlock you phones anyway when you cant follow basic instructions?????????????????
I was used to Windows mobile devices where you can always get out of trouble, I didn't realise you can't change the Baseband on the iPhone 3G and a large dose of stupidity led me to upgrade so now I can't use my phone on T-Mobile.
Nobodies fault but my own.
thanks dudes!
and then install your apps again
you the best!
can u help me?
I have the iPhone 2G with firmware version 2.0.2.
I was able to just plug it in, click update, and let iTunes install the 2.2 firmware. After that, just run QuickPwn and let it run. Easy as hell due to awesome work by the dev team!
On a side note, I use Categories from Cydia to put apps in folders, and the Poof! option in BossPrefs quite frequently. I had put the Settings app, Bossprefs and the Categories launcher all in folders that ceased to exist after QuickPwn. I could not launch any of these apps! I had to find and download 5 or 6 different app launchers before I could get to any of these programs, which was tiresome and frustrating. If you use Categories or Poof, its a good idea to unhide all of your icons and remove at least the system critical apps from folders before doing ANY of the updating/pwning.
On another side note, I'm an AptBackup user - a must have for anybody tinkering with updates. Make a backup with it on the phone before updating, and after Pwning, re-download it with Cydia and run the restore. It not only found every Cydia app I had, but it even checked the right items in Winterboard along with downloading and installing every app! Don't leave home without it, folks!
I updated my unlocked (T-mobile) first-gen iPhone to 2.2 using the latest iTunes (8.0.2.20), then ran QuickPwn to jailbreak.
As usual, everything worked as expected (no problems whatsoever)! Thanks for all the hard work!!!
All i want to know is, is it being worked on? Should I expect a Baseband downgrade option for the 2.2 anytime soon?
or should i just settle for the ipod touch that my 3G has been converted to and just go out and by a new cell..
Thanks
“Without the DevTeam’s amazing work the iPhone would be useless!!!”
Keep up the good work... and the Cat and Mouse.
what if I buy a new iPhone 3G now and it has already 2.2 installed?
Is there any chance that this 2.2 iPhone will be unlockable in a near future like the older 3G seems to be or does the baseband update lead to an "unlocable forever" status?
thanks
Lion
Greeting from Portugal.
Did you install Kate? If so just change the font that comes by default with Kate. Than it would all be Ok.
Try restoring, it's certainly not a common problem you are having. Most people say 2.2 iss more stable in Safari and no other problems.
i have a firmware of 02.11.07 which i assume i got from the 2.1 software upgrade. Does this preclude me from any potential soft-unlock? If it does, i shall just go ahead and install the official 2.2 upgrade. If not i am going to play it safe and wait for the (fingers crossed) soft-unlock to be released.
Bigguss
According to the information from DevTeam that's the last FW that is can be soft-unlocked in the near future.
I´m owning a custom 2.2 firmware for the iPhone 3G. Now my question is: do I have to either update or restore my iPhone with this firmware (by Shift+left click)???
Can I restore my 2.1-backup with the new firmware (options, savegames, wifi-hotspots etc.)?
Thanks
Seeking an advice for an amator
I have an unlocked 3g 8G iphone , and I am a real amateur, my son accidently pushed the upgrade button that locked the phone with the 2.2, I restored it using Quickpwn, everything is working fine and was wven able to back it up with itunes except the network does not wor anymore it states network not available
I would die for an advice,
Thanks
Also noticed DFU problem on new MacBook Pro. WTF?
thank you.
my process was as follows:
get pissed cydia didnt work.
research for a while
try pwnage again
restore
try quickpwn again
etc etc
get everything Except cydia back to normal
read another post from this blog saying some Other thing works
try said thing
find that it doesnt work
re-get everything back to "normal"
read Ruben's post
be a bit skeptical
try quickpwning
load cydia successfully
WOOOHOO
hope it helps
If you are in dfu and want to get out of it, hold down home button and power together until the phone restarts, it takes quite a while though.
I am using a pwned iphone 2G (2.0 firmware).
I have downloaded the pwngate tool 2.2.1.
So I just upgrade to 2.2 using itunes and the quickpwn my device?
Won't my device be locked after I press the upgrade button on itunes?
This happend some hour after I quickpawned the 2.2 ver
I am first timer on this and am trying to use QuickPwn (the latest version). The program asked for Bootloaders v3.9 and v4.6 and there is a botton for Browse but there was no such files in the foolders that I downloaded. Can anyone help me? Thank U
we may not post a link here
but GOOGLE is your friend :)
I have an Iphone 3G that I was using with ATT. I finished my contract and want to go with another carrier. My idea is just to unlock my iphone 3G, not to Jailbrake it. when I started using the pwnage Tool on the experto mode is giving me differet options of what i want to do. Which one of these options should I use just to unlock it?
Thank you very much!
I have no signal...
Bootneuter can determine the settings and say:
Version 3.9
Neuter : Yes
Fakeblank: NO
Unlock: yes
No SIGNAL.
Now, i like to change the settings and touch didnt recognize. The phone crash..
Some fix?
Did you use PwnageTool or QuickPwn?
I was restart the network settings... the network was recognized for a seconds... in that seconds i start bootneuter.. it wasnt crashed and i turn 4.6 bootloader and FLASH... was restarted and now i havent signal again.. i like to enter on bootloader but it probably will crash...
i will restart the network settings after signal work and then enter on bootloader..
is ok?
Ok.. i am duing a full restore on DFU mode.
i was sucesfull restored ( in the itunes screen, locked) its says no service... i am doing the quickpwn...
Still no service.
What is AptBackup? I don't see that in a Cydia search.
hope it is realesed soon!!!

Although if we eventually find a way to revert down from 02.28.00, that would also happen to be useful for turbosim users.
Is 2.2 the only non-unlockable firmware? 2.1 is fine? (Plus will you release the unlock in the same way as for the first iPhone via QuickPwn because that was really easy for me to do plus I don't have a Mac so can't use PwnageTool.)
And is 2.2 impossible to unlock or would it just take you guys a few days longer to do it (after you finish the 2.0/2.1 unlocks.) Asking because might be getting a 3G soon and it might come with 2.2 preloaded
Do you guys think you'll have the unlock finished by Christmas?
Thanks :)
Keep up the GREAT work. I can't tell you how glad I am that you guys do this. You're really unbelievable.
I know this may seem a bit annoying, but any estimate at all as to when the unlock's coming? Really need to know cause it's the deciding factor in buying the 3G or not... Rough estimate would even do... ;)
(though I understand if you say it might cause people to start nagging in case you don't meet that date as if it's a deadline, so can you at least confirm that an unlock is coming sooner or later? ) Preferrably sooner ;)
Okay I'm just nagging now so I'll stop. Thanks again.
Those of us with previously pwned 1st gen iPhones have both the option of upgrading to 2.2 and then QuickPwn or made a new custom 2.2 fw with Pwnage Tool and then restore. In my previously pwned firmwares, I have always opted for a custom firmware because I like to preload it with all sorts of Cydia apps. However, I wonder if there is any theoretical reason for having a faster machine (all the other things being equal) if you update and then QuickPwn. If there is no reason for thinking that a custom firmware may be somewhat slower than a QuickPwned one, I'd rather go for the custom firmware.
Thanks for any answer you can give me on this
- iPhone via PwnageTool with Cydia apps preloaded
- iPhone via QuickPwn and those same Cydia apps loaded manually later
If you are using your iPhone with one carrier and have no interest in the possibility of an iPhone 3G unlock in the near future then just restore or upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to Jailbreak and add Cydia and Installer."
Just to be absolutely sure. The statement above is for A 3G phone that has already been jailbroke 2.1. Right??
I am with AT&T and have a 3G iPhone. I jailbroke it a coupke months ago with 2.1. So, If I want to update to 2.2 all I have to do is go ahead and update through Itunes to 2.2 and then use the new 2.2 quickpwn to jailbreak? Will I loose all the apps I have installed when I update. Is there anything else I need to do first like restore or delete any of the apps I have now. I saw something in the post about taking ALL apps out of folders before updating, which I have already done even deleting the Categories App altogether just to be safe. Is there anything else like this I shuld do before I start?
Sorry to ask something that seems to have an obvious answer but I'm not real techy and I can't afford to turn this thing into a paperwight.
Thanks.
I know there was plenty of warning about it but I read then after i tunes updated the the device. Is there any way to roll it back using a windows PC and then updating using the pawnage tool.
I managed to upgrade a different device last week using 2.1 which is working fine but 2.2 ruined everything!
Please help!
What you can try is to restore your 2G iPhone to the 2.2 FW using iTunes, and then QuickPwn/Pwnage it again after.
I pwned my iphone and a friend's and we are both very greatful!
keep up the good work!
It hangs at "selecting Firmware" and nothing happens anymore. Any ideas
are you a BlackOp's grup from Apple Inc ?
How can I fix this?
I cant get PwnageTool or quickpwn to work.
I ve got the 3g with 2.2 and using mac 10.5.5.
All i want is to jailbreak it (Im using the offical carrier).
Pwnagetool says it faild after inputing the password.
Quickpwn builds the file but the sending process wont start.
Last message is: Successfully built quickpwn ramdisk file then after 30 min nothing.
Whats wrong?
Is it becouse of os x 10.5.5?
My query relates to Quickpwn as I have never used this before,.
If I take a Pwnd/jailbroken 2.1 iPhone 2G without any apps (app store or Cydia) and use iTunes to update to 2.2 I end up with unlocked, activated blank 2.2 iPhone 2G but it is no longer jailbroken. I then install lots of app store apps and use it like this for a few days, syncing and backing up etc via iTunes.
If I then decide I want to jailbreak the iPhone using QuickPwn what state will the iPhone be left in once Quickpwn has been run??
Will it be as it was before the Quickpwng but jailbroken or will it be a blank 2.2 jailbroken iPhone?
My question basically is, therefore, to achieve a jailbroken 2.2 iPhone 2G that is already 2.2 but without losing information or apps, can i use Quickpwn or not??
Thanks so much for the tools and keep up the good work
Here's how I fixed it, after hours of re-pwning over and over...pwn it with PwnageTool 2.2.1, then run QuickPwn, and let it do its thing. For some reason, QuickPwn fixes it. I now have Cydia working, hurray!
I need help.
I have by mistake update my iphone 3G with firmware 2.2 ; but now I have no network .
please how my I get back to the old baseband?
Helpp
P.S. BTW, the quickPwn question on those files is a bit misleading. QuickPwn asks whether you want to 'keep the files that are on your iPhone.' However, if you say yes QuickPwn installs official Apple logos. But if you had already pwned your phone and are happy with your logos, your answer may be yes because you intend to keep your own logos, not the official ones.
Unlocked by Turbosim iphone 3G CAN NOT make the itunes 2.2 update because it messes with the locking stuff??
When can this be fixed?
Yeah, I read it but couldn't resist trying... so... it did get frozen on going to restore mode....shit! now need to find a not so new mac to pwn it!
I would really like to make my own custom ipsw which removes the Baseband upgrade for iPhone 3G, yet still allows me to use my phone with the carrier I got the phone from (meaning, I'm using the phone with the carrier it's locked to, but would like the possibility to unlock it if/when it becomes possible)
any chance of getting such a tool? or, for now, Windows users like myself are stuck?
Thanks for the help!
What should I do? running Mac here.
just to clarify what do i need to do in the pwnage tool to make sure the baseband is not updated? i want to be able to unlock in the future but i want 2.2 now.
thanks in advance..... seb
when i pwned first time i chose to active ????? and after i was getting no service or very little signal not enough to make a phone call however i did not qwkpwn it
Do the expert mode and uncheck activate phone should do it
Peace
I have a 3G 2.1 jailbroken iphone. I'm still stuck in my contract for about a year and a half, so I'm in no hurry to software unlock the service provided. That said, I like to keep my options open. If I decide to upgrade to 2.2 MINUS the baseband, does anyone know what I'm really losing? I heard on person anecdotally mentioned the baseband upgrade did improve dropped call problems. However, I feel like it's too early to really know that... anyone know the official changelog of the baseband update?
carlo
That's the risk of using a custom ispw that was never made by you. You don't know what's in it.

Jailbreak a success!!
Pwned the current iPhone 3g ipsw to create the custom firmware (activate ticked in pwnage tool). iTunes would NOT allow me to update and instead the iPhone went into 'Steve Jobs' recovery mode.
After retry, the restore of the iPhone began to load the new custom firmware and precariously, the Apple logo started to run. After nail biting +++, the Apple logo progress bar got only half way and the iPhone rebooted into a fully working OS 2.2 running Yessim.
Reloading the Backup on the Mac restored all of my Appstore data, music, pics etc and importantly the settings!
3rd party apps I had to laboriously reload as AppBac (cydia) did not restore any of the previous setting suggesting that iTunes may not be backing this up as it is supposed to do.
However, after this little blip, I have an OS2.2 fully working with AppSore apps and 3rd party Apps. Mobile installation patch 2.2 works a dream.....catch my drift :-)
Catch u later Bro's and Sis's
Dev Team Rock!!!
Please get the Soft 3G unlock sorted ASAP so I can bin Yessim !
jailbreaking my new iphone 3g was one of the scariest moments of my life...but well worth it.
Again thanks dev team!!!
I understand the baseband is not an issue and that I can simply use quickpwn, but I only have a mac, so I just use pwnage and create a custom ipsw again, with installer and cydia (if that's what I want, which it is) and hey presto?
I have all my AppStore apps backed up in iTunes, but will this update loose me all my cydia and installer apps etc?
I've read a heap of the posts so far but can't find a clear answer on my question - sorry if I've missed it and am wasting anyone's time.
Thanks in advance and thanks for all the efforts DevTeam!
Darren
I was downgraded to 1.1.4 erased the baseband and restore to 1.1.4...
THe signal worked again.
But when i upgrade to 2.2 again it comes the NO SERVICE..
Any suggest?
1st Generation Iphone 8gb
Win Quickpwn.
How can i downgrade de baseband on 2.2?
I'm currently running a 2.1 2G iPhone on the Tmobile network. From some of the comments I read and on the post, am I safe to assume that I should use iTunes to upgrade to 2.2, and then run QuickPwn?
If someone could either reply here, or send me an email to bo@addictedgamer.net I'd appreciate it.
We need some tool that allows us to save all the Cydia and Installer state, and restore that after the upgrade.
I'm aware of one app that tries to do that for Cydia, but according to some, that state isn't backed up by Apple, and is thus missing after the restore (I guess I could save that manually with sftp). Still, for Installer, an equivalent solution is missing... Or am I missing something?

2G from 2.1 to 2.2
Thank you for your help.
Is your iPhone a 2G (Original/First Generation) iPhone? If it is the 2G iPhone (judging from your comments about unlocking it with ZiPhone, I figure its a 2G iPhone), then you can update to 2.2 using iTunes and then unlock and jailbreak using QuickPwn or if you are on a Mac, Pwnage. If it is a 3G, then don't upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes.
Upgrade to 2.2 from 2.1(Pwned!) using iTunes.
Launch QuickPwn.exe (from Windows) and follow the steps.
Done!
Greetings from Portugal.
I just activated my Vodafone SIM, and threw it in my 2G iPhone which is unlocked and jailbroken, and it works fine.
I put it in my iPhone 3G which is locked to Voda (confirmed by Vodafone representative) and it doesn't work.. The iphone 3G was updated to 2.2 firmware and jailbroken two days ago.
What am I doing wrong? Do I have to activate it with iTunes or something?.. When I connect it to iTunes nothing comes up, and when I click 'check for updates' nothing comes up..
Is it because I jailbroke it before activating SIM?..
Thanks
Jonno
I want to upgrade my 1.1.3 2G iPhone, but this version of QuickPwn (2.2) says it can only jailbreak versions >= 2.0. How can I upgrade to 2.0 if QuickPwn won't let me do it? =(
Thanks.
Are you on Mac or Windows?
I have one huge problem tho.. I updated with itunes, and when I run quickpwn it tells me something like:
"this version of quickpwn can only jailbreak devices with versions >=2.0"
I am on FW 2.2, Windows Vista 64-bit... What could possibly be wrong? Any way to make it understand that I actually got greater than 2.0?
I logged on the computer as a domain admin, and everything worked like a charm.
The problem was that quickpwn and the iphone was on different users since quickpwn needs admin access when logged on a normal user.
PLEASE tell me tavaresstallworth@yahoo.com
If you did it by iTunes using the official 2.2 FW from Apple than you will not be able to get signal by the use of a turbo chip. One of the things the new Baseband, that comes along with the official Apple FW 2.2, is that it stops the ability to use those chips in order to get carrier signal.
So by the time being, with that kind of chip, sorry to say this, but you're stuck.
Greetings from Portugal.
Greetings from a jailbreaked T-Mobile 3G , now running on the german o2 (still with a Gevey TurboSim... arghh :-))
but hopefully soon with a 3G-software unlock by YOU!!
Kind regards from Germany - and keep the spirit up!!
I really appreciate your titanic efforts, you made my iPhone live, all worked great, thank you
I have a late '08 MacBook and an iPhone 2G pwned.
Q1 Can I simply update to FW 2.2 via iTunes and run QuickPwn after?
Q2 Is it possible to create a custom FW 2.2 using the PwnageTool on an other Mac and keep my former data? After updating the FW when it comes to restore my settings and data I would unplug the iPhone and connect it with my new MacBook (which contains my actual backups).
Thank you for your help, DevTeam or other people who have the same hardware (I just want to make sure everything works out the first time),
Yves
Q2: Make sure you sync your iPhone before you do anything. Use another Mac to build custom FW. Bring that custom FW to your new MB. Restore you 2G iPhone using the custom FW on your new MB (that you had synced your iPhone with earlier). When asked by iTunes, select restore iPhone from whatever your iPhone profile was called INSTEAD of "Setting up as new iPhone". All your settings and data should be left intact (except for non-AppStore 3rd party apps).
btw: nice logo you've got there ;-)
Worked %100 for me, after messing for 2 hours with Itunes and WinPWN 2.5 without much luck, the new QuickPWN22 worked right away from the first try!
Make sure you follow the instructions and all should work. No need to terminate any Itunes processes, the new prog does it for you!
Really good release, I bet this makes life easier for alot of people out there. I really appreciate it, nice work!
-CRØW.
- As I have an iPhone 2G and was on a Pwned+Jailbroken 2.1, I updated using iTunes to 2.2, the official 2.2. The update went fine and the restore of the settings was a snap. I thought: "hey, the update went fine". So I was happy with the Official 2.2, at least I was until I got a call, which I couldn't answer (slide 2 answer didn't work)... So my guess is, if we come from a pwned OS and put the official over it, it doesn't delete what you had there, leaving a lot of mess behind... I used then PwnageTool to reinstall everything from scratch and here I am, with a jailbroken+unlock iPhone 2G 2.2 :)
Thanks for your hard work!
Big thanks.
*bow*
If you wouldn't mind checking for me...
Thanks
it's a 3G by the way with 2.1 installed
Also if i try updating with the custom 2.2 firmware, will this lock my iphone( iphone 3g, 2.0 ), if NO pls send me the link to download custom 2.2 firmware.
And if i have a factory unlocked iphone 3g, i can directly use itunes to upgrade to 2.2 without locking my phone.
if anybody can spare few valuable minutes, i'd really appreciate
You can also go to Settings>General>About, and under "Carrier" it should say "Carrier 2.x" (mine says Carrier 2.9 and I'm on FW2.2). If its locked it will say the Carrier's name (AT&T, Vodafone, etc.). I haven't fully verified this yet so if anyone knows otherwise, please add to this.
If its factory unlocked, then yes you can update through iTunes.
iphone is not officially launched in dubai, so while buying it i had 2 options one was with sim adapter and was slightly cheaper and the one i bought was without any such adapter and they told me it was NEVER Locked, i got it for dhs 3300 ( USD 899 approx )
and as far as my iphone goes it works on almost all the chips i tried.....dubai, bahrain, india ( i have tried my phone in these 3 countries and it worked perfectly )
Now i checked under Settings>General>About, and under "Carrier" ( NETWORK ) it currently shows airtel and when i put etisalat it shows etisalat. so i don't really think this is the authentic way to check whether it is factory unlocked. wat say...
Also now i have downloaded a custom 2.2 firmware without baseband update.....and right now i'm on 2.0...will 2.2 version work with 1.45 baseband.
i'm being so specific coz i don't want to turn my 900 dollar iphone into a mere music player :-0
hope u wuld understand...
thanx in advance for ur time echo....
pls confirm authenticity....
also it says that the iphone should be on 2.1 version and pwned and mine is on 2.0 and is pawned
will this custom firmware work on my iphone 3g 2.0
Greetings from Portugal.
if anyone knows how it would be much appreciated
Greetings from Portugal.
I have just brought a second hand iPhone 3G which came with an O2 Pay as you go Sim CardM
- Version: 2.1 (5F136)
- Model: MB489B
- Modem Firmware: 02.11.07
Problem is that I am on Vodafone in the UK and I wanted to check if I could unlock the Sim Block so that I can use my Vodafone sim instead of the O2?
Any help would be really helpfull and Respect to the Dev Team :)
I little bit worried, because i did upgrade to 2.2 and jail brake and now have no signal.!!!!
I know you are working on it, but, we have a ligth at tunnel's end?
Greetings from Portugal
Any ideas why this would happen?
Thanks.
Its because it has nothing to do with the FW but the baseband of your iPhone and how it was programmed. We are all getting the same FW when we download and update through iTunes. Yet the factory unlocked iPhones remain unlocked and the non-factory unlocked iPhones get "re-locked".
My sister lives in Australia is getting an iPhone through Vodafone and for a small fee (AUD75), they will send her unlock codes over the internet to unlock her 3G iPhone. This will probably only work with iPhones locked to Vodafone in Oz and not all locked iPhones. Again, this is just a guess.
Plus isn't the baseband part of the firmware anyway? It got updated with the 2.2 one...
But if it isn't as easy as just restoring to the firmware, does that mean that the unlocked ones are hardware-based unlocks?
Damn I wish I was in Australia right now (or had someone I know there)... cheap unlocked iPhone 3G, contract cancellation after one month, then import to here. Unlocked and would still be pretty cheap...
As for the unlock being hardware, I also don't think that's the case. My sister's iPhone will just require a unlock code (provided by Vodafone Australia) to be entered for it to be unlocked. Doesn't sound like a hardware unlock to me.
As for contract cancellation in Oz (or any where for that matter), you would have to pay for the remaining time left on your contract. So not much cheaper.
thanks
The only thing you downloaded from this page is the torrent file that enables you to download the actual program. For that you need a bittorrent program like utorrent or a similar one.
So do like this:
1 - Search and install a bittoreent program like utorrent (free of charge).
2 - Download the file from this page and utorrent (or similar) will automatically open and start the download
3 - Unzip the program from the zip file and run it.
Greetings from Portugal.
Hey I know, why don't you guys just combine the apps together into one clean package. So depending on what the user wants out of it, he'll be set.
But now I have another problem... an issue with the Phone application... when I launch it, it starts up but there are no titles under the icons (ie. Contacts, Recent, Favorites & Voicemail), after about 1 second it crashes & goes back to the home screen. I'm not able to dial any number, check recent calls or voicemail.
I can receive calls though, but when I'm on a call I no longer see the 'current call' screen (W/ photo, phone number, hold, time of call, etc). It stays on the home screen with the green 'Touch to return to call' bar at the top. But when I click that green bar nothing happens, making it impossible to end a call.
Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?
just updated to 2.2 ! no problems everything working fine.i didn't updated my 2G iphone from itunes. used pwnagetool and created costume firmware selected the option not PWNAGED before.
everything went fine :)
Is the baseband easily upgradable after the 2.2 software has been installed?
thanks!

As for downloading custom FW, I find that a little dodgy and would be cautious to install anything like that on my iPhone. Use a friend's Mac to build your own custom FW with Pwnage if you only have a PC.
I am in the same position but I already upgraded to 2.2 via iTunes 8.0.2. I bought my 3G in Dubai too but now the Phone is Locked. In fact, when you upgrade via iTunes, it shows the message "Simcard installed cannot activate (sorry my itunes version is in French so I translate) the iPhone etc..." and the 3G is on Emergency call.
When you quickpwn it, the iPhone become unlocked but you see a "No Service" message (you have a beautiful Ipod Touch !).
I re-upgraded and re-QuickPwn 5 times with the same result. The bosses from "www.frenchiphone.com" cannot explain this fact. They told me that is unusual.
I don't know what to do.
Sounds like you may have an iPhone that is not factory unlocked and by upgrading to 2.2 you have locked your iPhone.
I have a doubt. Is it possible to unlock an iPhone 3G that is bought with the 2.2 firmware bundled?!!
Anyways, is it possbile to unlock an iPhone 3G that was bought on 2.2 already or that was simply updated
to 2.2?!!
There was another way people were getting around the SIM lock on 3G iPhones. The were using SIM emulators/proxy/adapters (such as TurboSIM, RebelSIM, etc.) but this method is buggy at best. Now with the 2.2 FW update, the baseband is updated and as a result these SIM proxies/emulators do not work on 2.2.
So, the only way at this point in time to have an unlocked 3G iPhone running 2.2 is to buy a factory unlocked one. This situation may change very soon.
No there is no Sim-emulator. My carrier Sim is inserted as is. I tried few other Sim that worked before upgrading. Note that I upgraded from 2.1 and before from 2.0.2. Note also that in 2.1 when I put the phone in Airplane mode, I could not recover the signal when put it in Airplane off again.
Did you jailbreak your 3G? If you did, did you make sure the "activate" was unchecked? Did you try resetting your network settings (Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings)?
If you are confident that it is a factory (Apple) unlocked iPhone, then try doing a restore to 2.2. Don't jailbreak, and see if these network issues still persist.
I have a factory unlocked 3G and when I updated from 2.1 to 2.2 it went off without a glitch. No network/connection issues whatsoever. I just did the update through iTunes. Good luck.
i only have a PC and MAC is not so popular here in India so nobody has it....donno wat to do...
do u know any authentic link to download the custom firmware...
also u missed tellin me that 2.2 version will work on 1.45 baseband or not.
as i have 1.45 on my iphone 3g 2.0
2.2 should work on the old baseband IF you build a custom FW using Pwnage that does no upgrade the baseband to 02.28.00
to be sure 2.2 will work on 1.45baseband (2.0)....and there's no need for an unlock...
i think it shud work as the problem is only with baseband update and here we r not updating the baseband.
but if 2.1 has a differet baseband then 2.0 which i think it is, then it might get stuck....
pls assist whether i shuld go ahead or wait for somebody to upload custom firmware that can upgrade 2.0 to 2.2 directly.
I restored my 2G iPhone with 2.2 iTunes firmware. Then I used QckPwn for Mac to unblock it. It all went ok, then I connected it to iTunes again and ask it to set up as a new phone and sync with my music and contacts, which it did but I don't have a signal from my carrier!!! What do I do? During the process I never took the SIM out!
Please help me! I can't afford to be iphone-less!!
Thank you from Portugal
Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
Restart iPhone. I know this has worked for people experiencing wifi, BT, and carrier issues. It worked getting EDGE working again on my 2G iPhone.
Warning: This will reset all your network settings and all the wifi networks that you have stored in your iPhone will be erased. You will have to key in your wifi passwords again.
If I upgrade is it going to be OK?
I have a 3G Iphone which is on 2.1 it has been Jailbroken and works brilliantly I want to upgrage to 2.2 but not sure which PwnageTool to use or how if honest as I am not very clued up on this and really dont want to loose all the ace applications on my phone, I am in th UK ... am assuming if I just upgrade to 2.2 through itunes it will delete al me applications from cydia etc ??
Thanks for any help or advise in advance !
Tens que usar a ultima versão do iTunes. A 8.0.2.
1abraço
You have to use the latest iTunes version. The 8.0.2.
Greetings from Portugal.
I had the same problem, but I think there were 2 issues, because I was updating without internet connection. "You must have internet connection for the SIM to register, I Think" and I was updating throw iTunes 8.0.1 instead of 8.02.
Thank you all for helping me.
I snap the picture through camera but it is not saving in my camera roll or even any where.
I restarted the iphone but it did not work. Can any body can help me.
I have an iPhone 3G with O2 UK and have no wish to use any other carrier now or at any time in the future, I use Windows XP and have already jailbroke with 2.1 and just simply like to download unoffical apps using Installer and Cydia etc.
Now are we saying that I can or cannot upgrade to 2.2, given I only have windows, and currently have a jailbroke 2.1 installed?
And if I can how should I do it, should I use iTunes then QuickPwn2.2?
I do appologise if this post annoys some of you but I am very concerned by some of the comments here that say 'If you have an iPhone 3G and upgrade to 2.2 its all over and you may as well bin your phone' do I assume this only applies to people who wish to use a non standard carrier.
Also am I right in sayin that i will have to re-download and install all my unofficial apps? I have seen some utilites that claim to save and retore these apps or their settings etc but can anyone reccomend something, would I need different utilities for Installer apps and Cydia apps or is there something that suits all?
If you have your iPhone locked to O2 and you dont wish to soft-unlock it, then you should just upgrade to FW 2.2 and then do the quickpwn.
All the warnings goes to the persons that want a soft-unlock in the near future. Along with the new FW 2.2 comes a upgrade to the Baseband that, for now, dev team is saying that all the vulnerabilities they found on the previous Baseband don't apply to the new one.
In concerne to the apps the only thing you can do is install a app called appbackup that you can use to restore the apps after the FW update and the quickpwn.
Greetings from Portugal.
So to clarify, if I did want to keep the ability to soft-unlock at some time in the far off future (perhaps when I get a new phone and wish to use this iPhone 3G as a backup on a pay-as-you-go sim or something) then I would have to wait until a Pwnage2.2.1 tool is availiable under windows, and use that to create the neccesary firmware file, or alternatively download a firmware file that someone else has created with a Mac specifically for an iPhone 3G on O2 UK?
Also could you confirm that AppBackUp will only backup and restore Cydia apps or will it do both Installer and Cydia apps?
Like I said before along with the new FW 2.2 comes a upgrade to the Baseband that, for now, dev team is saying that all the vulnerabilities they found on the previous Baseband don't apply to the new one.
This doesn't mean that they wont be able to do it in the future, it just says that they wont be able to do it in A NEAR future.
In what concern apps where is the explanation for ApTbackup:
"If you have Apps you've downloaded from Cydia, AptBackup by Chris Featherstone will make a list of all of your Cydia Apps then back that list up. When you restore your iPhone and iTunes, run AptBackup's restore in order to find and reinstall all of your packages."
The ApPbackup does the same thing but to apps you got from the iTunes store.
Greetings from Portugal.
You probably will have to reinstall your apps manually. 'Aptbackup' in cydia was the solution to this - it didnt work for me during the 2.1 --> 2.2 update though, I don't know if anyone else had problems with it.
I now have put my iPhone in dfu mode and plugged it back into itunes. itunes now wants me to upgrade the firmware to 2.2. i'm a little bit worried now because i heard all this bad stuff about the new baseband and really don't want my iphone not to be unlockable.
so what's the next steps i gotta go? is it secure to update the firmware? and what am i supposed to do afterwards?
You have to use a custom FW following the steps provided by devteam on the beginning of this post.
Greetings from Portugal.
damn guys i want to use 2.2, too.. just because of f*****g windows
I bought my iPhone near a Dubai related shop that told me that the phone was factory unlocked. I bought it in a closed box with a strip around that shows it has never been opened. When I upgraded from 2.0.1 (initial fw) to 2.1, the phone became locked and when I QuickPwned it, it re-became unlocked but with no wifi. I brought the Phone to the shop and they replaced it. I upgraded (from 2.0.2 to 2.1) and the same problem occured but when I QuickPwned it, I had my carrier and my wifi (except when I put it in Airplane mode, I did not recover my carrier signal).
Now I upgraded to 2.2 and the phone is Locked. I QuickPwned it and it became unlocked but no carrier signal. I reinitialized the carrier settings but the problem is not solved. I brought it again to the shop and they don't understand. Seems like the Dubai iPhone have some problems. Did you hear about that ?
thank you for the job
The only problem is all the things you described are the ones from a locked iPhone.
Just a question. Is your iPhone 2G or 3G?
Greetings from Portugal.
Is your iPhone 2G or 3G?
If your iPhone is a 3G unlocked by factory default you can just plug it to iTunes and do the upgrade with the official FW 2.2 from Apple and then use the QuickPwn, inthe case of you wanting to install third party apps.
We need a little more information in order to answer you with precision.
Greetings from Portugal.
Thanks
Thing is I tried to revert to 2.1 with the old baseband, and I saw a command in the log saying :
force_baseband_update = 0.
Anyone know to turn that to 1 ?
I`m pretty sure that would allow downgrading the baseband.
That really wouldnt work.
http://store.apple.com/hk/browse/home/shop_ipho...
There are enterprising people out there who are buying factory unlocked iPhones from these countries and selling them online. These would probably be the most expensive option usually costing more than USD1000.
AptBackup would be a whole lot more useful for upgrades if it still existed after an upgrade :-)
Thanks in advanced and sorry about my English.
However, I'm hearing that those of us that upgraded their iPhone 3G to the new firmware 2.2 won't be able to use Proxy SIMS for the time being. Unfortunate for me, but I had already upgraded before looking into unlocking the phone :(
So there is no way to get unlocked iPhone 3G service with firmware 2.2, correct? If someone could confirm, that would be awesome.
Thanks in advance!
thanks
one is on 2.0, one is on 2.1 and one is on 2.2
the sims are all fine as I have tried them in other phones
I think Apple must have done a sly tweak
I update my 1.4 firmware to 2.2 and I used QuickPwn_2.2, everything went fine and everything is working now except the phone line, I don't get the signal. it recognizes the sim and the correct pin, but it is not getting the line.
CAN YOU HELP ME?? PLEASE.... :-(
Update seemed to work really well, except now I don't have any phone signal :(
You're fooked.
btw, azureus says: Scrape Error: Connection Timed Out: Connect (IO) for whatever that means.
Had to dl it from mirrors =S

Had to use IE to post this -.-''
You might as well update, the automatic update won't do it for some reason so you have to go download it from the Firefox site...
I am scared to run the update first for fear that I will brick this thing.
What is the exact protocol that I should be following? Is QuickPwn saying this BECAUSE I have never used QuickPwn before, just PwnageTool?
Could someone answer this? I am soooo confused.
Please answer.
Thanks a lot
Okay so I have a jailbroken 3G 16Go iphone 2.1 firmware, and i just want to update it to 2.2 without loosing all the data i already have and i really don't wanna reinstall everything once i upgrade the iphone...
How do i do? Will pownage tool delete and restore everything that is already on my iphone...
Please help!
thanks
I have annother iPhone 3G in my office and (I think this is 2.1) and now the same thing happens this one too.
it is not the bypass sim as this works in other handsets so what has Apple done and how can i make my phones work??
Finally when will we be able to unlock the 3G iPhone using Windoze?
Cheers
There is NO unlock for the 3G at this point in time however the Dev Team is very close.
What have Apple done and how can I get round this?
Just like me.
If you get stuck in the reboot stage at the end of the quickpwn process, then try restoring the original software using itunes and set up as new iphone, then retry quickpwn. Worked for me.
Can you go backwards to the 2.1 baseband if you've already installed 2.2? And then use QuickPwn on the 2.2 FW to unlock without the baseband?
I updated my iPhone 1st Gen (previously PwnageTool'd with firmware 2.1) to 2.2 using iTunes... and rather strangely I've found it to still be unlocked without having to use QuickPwn or PwnageTool again! Anyone else found this? Or is it normal behaviour?!
Had a few hiccups on the way, but knowing is pretty hard to brick the iphone, i was confident i'd get there in the end.
- was at 2.1 so after downloading the 2.2 firmware and bootfiles i installed latest itunes and when it asked I shift+click the restore button and used the 2.2. I then got stuck for an hour with the usb=>itunes graphic, but managed to kick it out again and used quickpwn on windows - everything worked!!!
Thanks again
Scarab
I hope the devteam find a solution to this soon... an Iphone it's a very expensive piece of hardware for use it as an itouch2...
well greetings... if you guys know where can I donate to help your research, let me know... I'm more than willing to do it...
ohh and by the way I didn't had it hacked (jailbreaked) it was all original... because I was affraid of things like this... who would have said that they would attack the hardware hackers instead than software... my proxy sim is useless... :(
especially if like me you have a folder in which you have cydia, installer, and all the core hacking apps...
I'm now having to do a full restauration etc which is a real nightmare
I used pwnagetool on mac to jailbreak(previously jailbroken 2.1 3g) and it went through. however, I didnt get any signal(failed)
I redid it on another windows xp(i restored it back to 2.1 using a normal restore) then quickpwned it.
then i restored it again to 2.2 using ITUNES.
however, after i restored it to 2.2, it was working fine!!!!!
I don't know why but i believe the phone should be locked as i used the itunes updater.
anyways, does anyone know why this happened?
share your comments wowcheesestick@gmail.com
(I downloaded the Pwnage tool from here and verified the sha1 key)
But if you restore from iTunes and try again it should work.
iphone 2g( first generation) with 2.1 pwnaged was working smooth. then it gave the freeze today with the apple logo on boot without any response for more than 15 minutes
decided to update to 2.2, ran pwnage 2.2.1, customized firmware, saved my .psw file, ran itunes 8.0.2 with option clicking restore button and choosing my customized firmware, now after itunes telling me that it is restoring the iphone, it gives error, tells me to again restore the iphone, and the iphone is yet still in DFU mode and won't come back.
nneed urgent hep on this.
options i think of:
1) downgrade to itunes 7.7 and iphone 1.1.4 (or whatever) again
2)break the damn machine apart, cos it wont instal the un-customized .ipsw either, giving me some other error code
!!!!
=( please help
( the iphone is still staring at me with the apple logo then dfu mode and restarting in this loop.)
and i just tried downgrading to 1.1.4 too, following guideline (dowlnoading itunes 7.7 , 7.5 and all the others) in this link http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46198
the iphone is still unrecoverable, wih the itunes and usb cable on its screen, and itunes giving me errors like 20 (restoring original 1.1.4) 60 and stuff
>=(
now i'm thinking the worst, is the hardware damaged?
How do i make my phone work within India using any sim. Currently there is no 3G in India only GSM.
I attempted to use 2.2.1 Pwnage tonight on my AT&T 3G iPhone (whicjh was at 2.1).
All seemed to work fine, but after the restore, the phone starts up the pwnapple image and then restarts after about 5 seconds. I have tried several times to restore, each time creating a new custom restore filer. No joy. I checked and rechecked the instructions and the process and didn't miss anything.
I attempted to restore with 2.1 in iTunes (8.0.2, as instructed) but got got the dreaded unknown error(1)) failure.
Also, I noticed that while the standard 2.2 ipsw is 246.4MB in size, the custom restore ipsw out of PwnageTool 2.2.1 is only 236.3 MB. Is this correct?
Any suggestions?
BIll
You can get out of restore and you WILL have 2.1
I know so because I just happened to me. Then you can jailbreak and download a custom 2.2 firmware and you got it made.
Email me if anything... maaangler@gmail.com
and followed all the steps as you list them...and l jailbreak the iphone, installer works properly...but cydia DOES NOT work anymore...and a'm sad 'cause l thoungh l could have the same as the 2.1 firm....
l just want to know what could l do to make cydia work again.
just appears the page that says (graphic ....) (commander....)
and then it's gone to the homescreen...
Well 8th time is the charm. I only changed to NOT activate the iPhone and re-built one last time. This time the "DFU mode" screen appeared from Pwnage and the restore worked and all is running!
I'm not certain if it was the DFU mode properly being entered, or the "Activate" being de-selected - or both.
BTW< we ALL appreciate what you do! I can't wait for the 3G unlock!!!
Bill
After spending quite a few hours on the phone with my GSM carrier and Apple, I've decided to write here hoping that someone might be able to enlighten me. Here's the scenario:
Carrier X in country Y offers the iPhone 3G from Apple. Johnny doesn't want to get stuck with carrier X for two years (iPhone contract) so he decides to buy his iPhone off a dude from craigslist. Now, Johnny is pretty impressed because the iPhone comes brand new, sealed, never touched by the actual carrier on which network the device is locked. Johnny gets super excited and he buys it. After he goes home, he pulls out the phone just to find that it comes with a SIM card that is not activated but it belongs to carrier X. Now, he's not able to make phone calls with that SIM card. He throws in his good old Prepay SIM and voila, it works.
Now, this is my case. Any idea how that guy might have gotten his hands on those brand new, sealed (I'm dead serious, those boxes were not resealed or anything, they came directly from Apple) devices?
Aren't those supposed to be retailed in the store and when Jack drops by to buy one, the sales person will open the package and follow whatever activation procedure they have?
The GSM provider on which's network my iPhone is locked was not able to give me any information in regards to my GSM terminal. Initially they told me that based on my IMEI they can track it down but that's it. They gave me a number, I called they told me that's not possible, they can't do it, they never heard about it but they can sell me a plan for only 29.99 (mecries)
Where can I get information about my device based on its serial/imei/whatever number?!
Is it the GSM carrier that locks the device on their network or is it Apple that ships them already locked?
would it be possible to image the baseband firmware from a factory unlocked iPhone (Belgium,France,Italy,Hong Kong) to a factory locked iPhone?
I'd really appreciate some concrete answers to my questions. Yes I googled around. No, I was not satisfied with the answers. Thanks in advance.
What network are you on. What network was the SIM that came with the phone? What country are you in? And WTF do you actually want to know?
You can do a search by the model of your iPhone in here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937?locale=zh_TW
In what baseband in concerned the thing you said drives to nowhere. If you put a Baseband from a factory unlocked iPhone in a locked one, this last will remain the same... locked.
It is not my case, but some questions you are proposing are interestings.
I thought my iphone was not carrier locked when I bought it. I was using the Gevey turbo sim, and don't worried about this. But now, with the baseband updated and my iphone in "not service" mode, I'm not sure if this is true or what.
I think Apple and the telephone companies are not doing good policy. But is his bussines.
I am also interested in your questions. If I found new information, I will post here.
Enjoy your toy.
I think the real question you have to make is if you are having any problems with the dropped calls till the FW 2.1.
In my case I don't even remember of having a dropped call, so I rather wait for possible soft-unlock made by de devteam in my FW 2.1.

3G iPhone FW2.2:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content...
Used your pwnagetool 2.1 to jailbrake my phone a while back and wanted to say thanks for some great work.
I have a 16GB 3g 2.1 modem 02.11.07 and was wondering if it was possible to unlock by downgrading to 2.0.2? Is that possible and or advisable?
Really appreciate your help
Is it worth upgrading to 2.2? I'm pretty happy with the running of 2.1
As for 2.2 FW, it adds stability to Safari, with enhancements to Mail, & Maps (Google Street View). Decrease in drop-calls and set-up failures (I've had no problems with dropped calls pre-2.2) Also you can download podcasts, and AppStore has had a bit of a facelift. All-in-all, not anything that you will sorely miss if you forego the update for now.
Here's my situation, I'll try to be as concise as I can:
Bought my iPhone 3G via contract on Irelands O2 network.
Ended up moving back to the states a few weeks ago.
I have an old account with AT&T that was still active, and I had them put all the iPhone data plan stuff on. (UNLIMITED DATA, VisVoiceMail, etc)
Bought a TURBO SIM for the 3G.
Now here's my issue:
I can make and receive calls AND texts, but I have intermittent EDGE access. (rarely) And NO 3G access. (WiFi works fine...but you know...data would be sweet when I'm out the house)
Keep in mind it is TURBO-SIM'd.
AND another 3G phone of mine, (a Samsung Blackjack, and my friends LG Shine phone) both get strong 3G signals. And both are on the ATT network.
When I take OUT the AT&T card, and place the old Irish O2 NETWORK SIM in, AND turn on ROAMING, 3G turns on like a champ.
Any ideas, workarounds or solutions guys? Feel free to email suggestions to McLanguage76@Gmail.Com

Why do you expect a European iPhone, designed to work on 2100Mhz as this is the Frequency used for 3G throughout Europe, to work on AT&T which uses 850/1900 for both GSM and 3G?
First of all, if you don't want to email me. Then don't. It's your option. Some people prefer to help on the sidelines. Accept it, there's no need to nit-pick all that you don't like in the world.
Re-read what I wrote. When I use my O2 Ireland sim card in my O2 purchased iPhone here in the states, 3G works fine over the American AT&T network. So it's obviously not a hardware issue of not being able to TX on a proper RF, as opposed to using a 3G iPhone on T-Mobiles 3G network.
Thanks for playing. Goodnight!

It doesn't sound like its the iPhone but actually your TurboSIM. in my experience, unlocking with a TurboSIM or any sort of SIM proxies/emulators, is sketchy at best. I've had friends who used them when OOTB 1.1.4 came out and you couldn't soft-unlock. I also have friends that are using them to unlock 3G and they tell me their iPhones often hang and a whole host of other problems.
How long have you had your Irish iPhone? Maybe if its less than 3 months old you could talk to Apple explaining your extenuating circumstances and they might swap it out for a Yankee iPhone. Then when the software unlock is released you can unlock it that way instead of farting around with SIM emulators. Either that or hang on for a bit as the Dev Team will soon be releasing their 3G unlock. Just my 2¢
Try to reset your network settings and then restart the phone. Maybe that will do the trick.
Keep in mind that after this procedure you'll need to retype all your wifi keys.
Your problem is not he FW upgrade but the Baseband upgrade.
At this time there is no way to downgrade the Baseband.
The only problem is the Caller ID is not right.......still waiting for a fix...
Anyone knows the solution for it on iPhone 2.2?
Pls send any suggestions to: denni@operamail.com
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Denni
At this time there is no way to downgrade your Baseband.
This is hell. My iphone is then useless. But there must be away soon or what do you think..??
the dev team is aware of this issue. dev team pls..!
thanks for the support..!
Regards,
Denni
At this point dev team is close to soft-unlock of iPhones that have the baseband up to 2.11.07.
They looked at the new Baseband, 2.28.00, and found that all holes they found in the previous one don't apply here.
I can only say the same thing I write previously to another user:
You have two hopes:
1 - The dev team figures out a way to revert the baseband upgrade made by Apple. As they already posted, they will not, actively, be looking for this.
2 - The companies that sell the sim proxys work a way around, so these type of solution begins to work with the new Baseband 2.28.00.
I kinda messed up bad. I upgraded to 2.2 and have been out of service since. My phone is unlocked with the shadow sim and now the device is worthless.
PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!
send comments to hsabry4@hotmail.com
thanks world
now i know im stuck but do i wait/look for anything specific?
cheers mate

Correct me if im wrong, but any baseband above 01.45 will not be supported unless there is a baseband downgrade available.. right?
Meli from Costa Rica.
I made the same mistake by updgrading, and now I have no service.
Does the phone still work with At&t?
If the iPhone was originaly locked to AT&T than yes. But you cannot put another SIM from any other carrier... at least until dev team founds a way to either revert the new BB update or some holes in the new BB.
I upgraded with your tool to 2.2 and I have furious-unlocked phone 3G. I did this on a mac and everything is fine. But this morning I tried to synchronize with outlook with my pc at work (worked befor with 2.1) itunes is telling me it can not recognize my iphone. XP is make the sound like USB plugin plugout and after maybe 5 tries my iphone restarts. Is this a known buck? What can I do? Only downgrade to 2.1? Thanks a lot for your work so far, everything worked perfect. But I need to synchronize my adresses and calenders.

So, when QuickPwn 2.2 came out, I was ready to try again. I swear my iPhone must be cursed because the same thing happened last night. The only thing that was suspicious is that during the QuickPwn process (once the phone was placed into recovery mode) iTunes opened. Is this why the final install process failed? I had to restore from backup again last night and I am loath to try this again until I understand why it keeps failing. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
regrads from germany :-)
Habe QuickPWM für Microsoft runter geladen.Doch dann lässt es sich nicht weiter ausführen.Hast du da irgendwelche Tipps für mich oder mache ich etwas falsch?
Grüße und Danke
The say the y3g suports the 2.2 baseband.
If I sent my iPhone for a repair to apple, will they update it?!!!
Or if they decide to send me a new one, will it be a 2.2?!!!
And if they send me an new one could it be possible that it's an unlocked one? (Ahah, why not?)
That doesn't say it supports the new FW2.2. Its only the presentation to their simcard programer.
I gave a quick look and they don't even reefer to the new 2.2 FW anywhere in the site.
Still with you guys anyway !
Go Dev Team
So, I have a locked, jailbroken iPhone 3G FW 2.1 from Orange, a french carrier.
They are, by law, obliged to unlock my iphone after 6 months, and so i'll want them to unlock it. I'm supposing that'll be a factory unlock, and doesn't concern the baseband version...
But yet, I'd like to know if I upgrade my iPhone 3G to FW 2.2, with the baseband upgrade, will my carrier be able to unlock it after this 6 months have passed?
Thanks a lot
Felipe.
Question is... I don't care about most of the extraneous features for browsing, games, email, etc... just using the phone, music, movies, and some of my own applications... problem is with iTunes... it locks out the phone saying it has an invalid SIM card and won't allow me to access the phone through iTunes anymore unless I put the original card back in... Don't want to have to do that all the time and risk damaging the shadow card, so is there something I can do that will allow connectivity to iTunes again?
PS... every time I try and connect to iTunes, it does want to upgrade the software in the iPhone but I've denied it every time... current software version is 2.0.1 (5B108)
Thanks in advance.
Captain Rick
well!
what I used to do is plain simple, just set airplane mode on plug in your iphone to your computer and itunes will recognise it ;-)
be sure that you set airplane mode before running itunes or pluging your iphone to your computer...
you are welcome in advance.
I also forgot that iPod's will only sync with one computer and I just switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro, that's why I want to get everything set up as well as possible. I must admit the only thing I'm disturbed about with Apple so far is they are so intent on locking us exclusively to their devices in so many ways. Ended up wiping my iPhone clean so I can start fresh with the new Mac, but now I've even lost my ringtones that I had to generate with special software on my PC because Apple feels I shouldn't even be allowed to use my own music for ringtones... what's up with that???
These unlocks that everyone keeps talking about, will they help me get around some of these problems so I can at least put what I want on the device I paid so dearly for? I'm must admit to being reluctant to wanting to do anything with a danger of damaging the phone... living on a sailboat in the Caribbean, I'm not exactly in a place I can run to a cellphone shop for help if it goes down. I already have the SIM bypass, I'd just like to be able to unlock some of these features that keep me tied to them exclusively... is that what the jailbreak I saw mentioned is about, and will it let me hook up to iTunes with the shadow card installed on a different SIM? Is there any risk of losing the phone service when using any of them? Sorry for all the newbie questions, everything Apple is new to me, and now I'm in deep! Thanks again.
Capt Rick
Thanks.
Then only chance is to getting your hands on a MAC and do your custom ipsw. Than you can go over to your PC and do the rest os the procedure from there.
But if you want a soft-unlock in the near future DON'T use QuickPwn without previously updating your iPhone with a custom FW that carries the old BB 02.11.07 (But this step you can make in a Windows PC).
Sorry. Nothing you can do for now. You have to wait for dev team find some hole in the new BB or a way to revert the new Baseband to the old one.
But until now there is no way to downgrade the Baseband.
Thanks Dev Team!!!
Thank you
As far as we know all the BB up to 02.11.07, witch means all official FW from Apple until 2.1.
Dev team is working on 1.45.00, but the holes they found on that BB go all the way up to the 02.11.07.
According to them the new 02.28.00 has that holes already covered by Apple.
is there any way to make it with out calling?!
Bye!
Does anyone know how close the dev team is to unlocking the 3G? It would be a GREAT help as I'm about to shell out $600 for a no-contract iPhone 3G, and I won't be able to use it here without the unlock. Estimated time of arrival: Dec 18th. Any idea if the unlock should be here by then? That's three fundays...
By the way, if I were to pay $200 plus contract, then a month later cancel the contract for $175, it would be cheaper than paying $600, but I've heard it affects credit history! Is that at all true???
Thanks guys we owe you :D
Just what is the rush to go ahead & upgrade to 2.2? Obviously for the vast majority of us, 2.1 has worked just fine. Most of the tweaks & improvements that 2.2 offers can be found/downloaded from Cydia, except maybe GoogleMaps Street View. I think that it would be better just to wait until all the kinks are worked out with that new update before subjecting yourselves to all the pain & suffering that we've been reading about the last few days here. I think that the Dev Team are second to none, but on the flip side, the came out with with the Pwnage Tool & QuickPwn in a very short amount of time. They even had to issue updates because of all the hiccups that this upgrade creates. Don't be hasty, remember, less is more. Instead of jumping @ the opportunity to upgrade for no obvious benefit, I think it'd be better to wait & see what else comes up. I'd rather wait for them to develop the soft unlock for the 3G & even then I'll wait @ least a couple of weeks before I install it on mine. I'd rather wait & see what the guinea pigs in this forum experience before I go ahead & mess up an otherwise pretty much working iPhone 3G...just my 2 cents.
On that note,
Thank you for all your work, diligence & patience Dev Team; it is very much appreciated.
Most people that I see having problems are the ones that did not read how they would lose the hardware unlock, which they now lost. That has nothing to do with PWNAGE.
On the other hand, yes ... you can wait and play it safe, but from my point of view, it's safe already.
So, I have an locked, but jailbroken iPhone 3G FW2.1 from Orange, a french carrier.
Here the carriers must unlock the phones 6months after we bought it, and so i'll make them unlock my iphone.
I think this is a "factory" style unlock, and so, not affected by the baseband upgrade, but i'm not sure.
If i upgrade my iphone to the FW2.2 with the baseband upgrade, will they be able to unlock it?
tks in advance.
Felipe
yeah, i think i'll make the upgrade =)
if anyone else has more precise info, i'd like to hear it!
cheers
If the carrier is obligated by law, like in Brasil, to unlock the phone, than doesnt matter what FW or BB
you have in your phone.
If you are sure that they have to unlock your iPhone than just upgrade with the officlal FW from Apple and then use the QuickPwn is you want third party apps.
eles são obrigados a desbloquear o telefone aqui na frança também, mas só depois de 6 meses depois que vc comprou o telefone.
abraços.
thanks for your help, Cofi.
they're obligated to unlock it in france too, but only 6 months after you bought it.

any people used Pwnage tool on a locked (SIM-locked) iPhone 3G with a SIM Proxy and it still works?
Is it possible to downgrade from a 2.2 to a 2.1 when you still have a old baseband (1.48.02)?
Thanks!
Thanks again you lot....

I just love my Iphone......

I have a 3G iPhone FW 2.1, locked but jailbroken ... and in no rush to but very interested in updating to fw2.2!
Question (dumb or not, just give me a quick answer pls.): - will all my non-native apps (not from Apple) be preserved once/after I update it?! Or are they a goner and I'll have to reinstall them one by one (after re-jailbreaking the phone)?!

PS: - and many thanks to all who care to answer to these sometimes clueless people that post in here ... me included!!! (i.e. echo, cofi, confucious ... )
Good job!!!
I'll definitely install aptbackup and try using it ... once i do this! Kinda' ready to now, but I'll wait a while longer ...
'Cause what I'd really like to know is, I guess, how close these "geniuses" really are to unlocking the 3G?!! ... Lots of optimism in here about it happening soon I see ... but no definite answer on that from anybody in charge, I reckon! It would be nice to unlock the phone first ... and then maybe (by a miracle) the upgrade will still keep it unlocked, as i read some comments below of people that had that happen to them (albeit with 2G iPhones apparently) ... I have no clue how the locking of this devices really really works and no one says much about it in here either! It's a big mastery ... ;) wtf!
You can install that first then run a backup within that.
That will create a catalogue of your installed Cydia apps and back the catalogue up into itunes. When you upgrade to 2.2 and jailbreak, install cydia then install aptbackup. Run the restore from there and as I understand it, your apps will be backed up.
That's my understanding anyway. Someone please tell me if I'm wrong.
I'm in the process of trying it as I type!
I hoped it worked for you ...
One thing though: what do u mean by backing up the catalog (once created) in iTunes?! How?!
SiG
thx
Can someone help? I think this is a different issue but I also had categories installed from jailbreak 2.1 and didn't realize I needed to "unhide" apps listed in there, so I am missing some apps that were in folders, but not settings and I think this is an issue that I can fix once I have jailbroken 2.2.
Thx.
Is there anyway to create an .ipsw on a Mac with Pwnage and use it on a Windows PC to upgrade the 3G iphone safely without it having the Baseband updated?
Also - when using Pwnage, is there anything special that i would need to do in order to make sure that the Baseband is not updated? Or do i just run the simple mode with the new 2.2.1 pwnage and it shouldnt update the Baseband?
Thank You!
PwnageTool automatically removes the baseband update from all custom 3G ipsw's.
FOR 3G IPHONE
So after i create a custom .ipsw on a Mac using Pwnage - Are these the steps for me to use on a PC?
1. Restore using Custom .ipsw
2. After Restore use QuickPwn 2.2 to Jailbreak?
3. Thats it?
Thanks Again!
Just be sure to hold down the Shift key (in Windows iTunes) when you click "restore". If you don't do that, you'll end up with the Apple one, which you want to stay clear of.
- download but not install 2.2 firmware via itunes
- download pwnage, make custom firmware via expert mode with 1024MB root partition
- enter DFU mode (sanity check please: power off, power on with home button held down)
- restore using itunes with custom firmware via option-click on Restore
- restore from backup, _not_ as "new iphone"
and I had "No Service" for the phone. It is jailbroken etc. It is _not_ using a unlocked SIM/turboSIM etc.
I'm now doing a DFU ordinary restore with the standard Apple firmware as a _new_ iPhone instead of restoring from backup and I have my VodaAU logo back and full signal; it's still doing the sync of the standard apps so I have yet to verify this. If ok, I'm going to proceed to try a DFU restore with the custom firmware again as a new iphone and report.
I know that this is changing several things at once, and hope to report back with more data soon.
meanwhile, can someone please clarify to me what the "new iPhone" option in the restore menu means, versus the restore from backup approach? Exactly what gets done differently in these two routes?
- Cameron
When I got my factory unlocked 3G in Hong Kong, I just synced with iTunes and did a restore from backup so that all the user settings from my 2G iPhone would be transferred to the 3G. This worked flawlessly for me and it even "remembered" my "hacked" carrier name as opposed to the actual carrier name (I changed the carrier name to "echo" using Erica Sadun's MiM on my 2G).
Cheers in advance to anyone offering advice and help
If you have bought your iPhone in Italy then it comes factory unlocked.
If this is correct you can just upgrade your FW to 2.2 using iTunes and the official Apple FW. Your phone will still be unlocked.
Quickpwn doesn't install any FW, it only searches your current FW in order to jailbrake it. The program that instals the FW's is iTunes and the one who builds them is the PwnageTool.
If you want to upload a different FW to your iPhones than you should just click SHIT+RESTORE (from inside the iTunes and after you connected your iPhone to your PC) and choose the FW you want.
Am I missing something?
i leave in italy and i cannot use like a phone??
1) Is there any way to SAFELY downgrade from Modem F/W 02.11.07 to 1.45.00? Given that I dont think you can,
2) Can I SAFELY use PWNTOOL 2.2.1 and keep Modem F/W 02.11.07? The documentation I have seen says the Modem F/W should be at 1.45.00 when using pwntool 2.2.1. I think this is because this is the version that the dev team is working to unlock. I'm okay if I have to wait to unlock 2.11.07, but I do want to jailbreak my phone and move to Iphone version 2.2, and keep Modem f/w 2.11.07.
Will this work?
Thanks
You can use Pwnagetool with the Baseband 02.11.07. It will perserve your BB and enables you to do a new ipsw file with the older BB.
Now, my only hope is that I will still be able to soft unlock the 2.11.07 baseband at somepoint. Does anyone know how likely it is that the solution they come up with to unlock baseband 1.45 will work with bb 2.11.07?
iphone-dev rocks!
PS - I used instructions from HACKTHATPHONE, and they were very clear and it was easy. Start with the readme at this link to get started. It has links to all the files you need. http://www.hackthatphone.com/20/read_me_first.html
NO IT ISN'T!!!
I have gone so far as to turn off the 'Sim Lock' option...
HELP PLEASE! I did the 2.2 update and proceeded to then Jailbreak the iPhone... iTunes recognized it fine before the Jailbreak WTF happened... did I miss something?
No. You just upgraded the Baseband, witch means you won't be able to use the soft-unlock dev team maybe releasing in the near future in your iPhone.
In what performance is concerned with the new Firmware and the new Baseband, that comes with it, wont be affected.
If you have the right FW does "Before Christmas" sound like a near Future to you? It sure does to me.
on an iPhone 3G (locked/working with aTurboSIM) when thinking about FW-update from 2.0.2 to 2.1 are there any precautions to take,
esp.
-is there an unwanted baseband update that should be avoided?
-should app- and apt-backup work in connection with iTunes backup?
Or better leave it on 2.0.2 as long as it works..? Never touch a running ... ;-)
Thank you in advance HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Have a nice day and take care wherever you are

need help plesae.i got a 3g iphone.i had it jailbreak-ed on 2.1.last night a buddy of mine tried to run an aplication and my phone junt bloked to favorites.i restarted and the phone just stocked on the white scerrn.no menu. funny thing is that i could answere the phone when somebody call me.i had in it a geavy sim for a romanian carrier. then if i saw that is nothing to do with i went home and tried to restore but itunes restored and updated to 2.2 firmware.right now my iphone is waiting to be activated.what can i do because i want to unlock-it later when a soft will be available.and i read about the problem with the baseband ..&shit if u update with itunes
please HELP!!
THX a lot
Kindly help
Yesterday I have updated to 2.2... used thed quickpwn 2.2.dmg...
and guess what... now I have a just a iPod Touch (litthe heavier anyway).
Is not giving any sim error... but not working the phone part.
I guess the baseband it's also an issue in 2G iphones and not as easy as told here:
"Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn to do the magic, ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything."
The QuickPwn for OS X currently doesn't offer that so you're better off going with a full custom IPSW via PwnageTool if you're on a Mac and upgrading your 2G from 1.1.4 to 2.2.
Thanks so much for the tools and keep up the good work
before 2.1. was everything ok...
You have a problem with Signature. I don't know exactly how that works because I think you should by the apps you use in your iPhone but google it and you'll have your answer pretty easy.
im searching since a couple of days right now and i cant find ANY working solution to the 2.2 incl. Hardware Unlock Card (i-smartphone). I did the big mistake uprgrading to 2.2 with Quickpawn, now my iPhone is a iPodtouch. Everything works except that i have "no signal"
My provider pops up, stays for about 5sec than i get no signal.
Did anyone hear of a working solution (downgrading) or an new hardware unlock card than please tell me. I'd like to use my iphone again:(
Thanks for all your help.
You may downgrade the whole fw version to the previous or whatever ... but the baseband part will remain the same, so it won't do u any good ..
Either wait for a future hardware unlock that works with the new baseband or ... sell it!!!
if you have a 1st gen iPhone (originally 1.1.2 OOB)
updated to 1.1.4 (in my case using Ziphone)
don't use Quickpwn 2.2! will kill the Phone features (just disappear)
use Pwnage tool, and if like me you're not a hacker, computer geek, etc. and just a plain user,
follow the iClarified guide at http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=...
now my iphone is back to rock!
The QuickPwn for OS X currently doesn't offer that so you're better off going with a full custom IPSW via PwnageTool if you're on a Mac and upgrading your 2G from 1.1.4 to 2.2.
Are you going to give all us locked 3g users a nice x-mas pressie??
Thanks
Please take these questions in the spirit that they were asked. I am not complaining or whining, i really appreciate that you guys are doing this as a hobby and as such the work will get done as and when you find the time. I am probably not alone when i say that i am blown away by what you have already accomplished with the Quickpwn and Pwnagetools.
Keep it up guys i'm sure you'll do it!!
Just saying hello and thank you!!!
Hopping for a funday this weekend I believe that you guys will give me my Xmas present that i asked for to Santa!!
The 3G unlocking software..... so i can go for the holiday season abroad and use my 3G with a local Sim ...last time i went abroad i used roaming and swear for never again!!! I've learned....eheheh...
Thank you for all
Regards
Thanks :)
I updated my iphone to 2.2 las friday. before that I had my 3G UNLOCK with the turbo SIM and after the update I'm not able to make phone calls, looks that this update locked my Iphone...any solutions yet to unlock Iphone 3G 2.2 so I can use it with my carrier in Argentina? PLEASE HELP!!!
At this time there's nothing no-one can do. With the new FW 2.2 comes a new Baseband (02.28.00) that cannot be hacked now or in a near future.
You will just have to wait.
my firmware is 2.0.2 with a 01.48.02 baseband.
Is it safe to update to firmware 2.1 or should I better not touch it ? I don't know if pwnage avoids a potential baseband update in fw 2.1
Thanks in advance
Happy Thanksgiving
Abbdul_Hassan
I read somewhere in this blog that the Santa-Claus is only passing by the dev team house sometime in the first two weeks of December with some brand news iPod Touch 2G .
So it's just there that they are going to start to look at that.
I've just updated my iphone 3g to firmware 2.2 and after that my phone suddenly went into emergency calls only. Then a friend tried to quickpwn it and it didnt really worked. After that, I restored it back to ver2.2, and everything went back to normal except that it didnt have any signal. Then I tried to quickpwn it again and this time it failed, and i restored it back to firmware 2.2 again. It's back to emergency calls again. Any solution to this? Please i need help.
Is it correct that I can create a custom firmware using the PwnageTool on an other Mac, copy it to my MacBook and then restore? Can somebody confirm please??
Thank you!
I tried to add a new source for Cydia in PwnageTool (Mac) and when I press REFRESH it doesn`t work, nothing happens! Anyone knows what I did wrong or other way to add personal apps in a Custom Firmware?
Thank you,
Bye.
Every time I tried to do that the result was a bad one. So now I put all my apps directly on the iPhone.
Now to my question: got my iPhone 2G with FW 2.0.1 (done with pwnage, NO quickpwn). I'm a MacBook user (actually got my new Alluminium one and sold my MB white).
As from point 6 reading: "... While it’s possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> Pwned 2.2 (using PwnageTool), you can’t yet go from stock to pwned. If in any doubt use a different machine.", I'd like to ask: am I safe if I try to upgrade from 2.0.1 to 2.2 on my OSX 10.5.5 on Alluminium? Or would I encounter the "no-DFU" problem?
Which is the best way, in my situation, to step to 2.2 (and I'd also like to get rid of "Installer")?
Thanks in advance!
If you use PwnageTool in "advanced" mode, you can prevent Installer from being installed.
Thank you a thousand times Dev-Team and all the other people who patiently answered my questions!!!!
See you as soon as the FW 2.3 update is out, I guess ;-)
Did I go wrong hereby? :-?
free volume choice on my german iPod touch again.
Common sense would dictate not doing this.
Shut iTunes off and try it again.
But, this time: a very special THANK YOU goes to MuscleNerd...
Oh, now it seems to work again ;-)
If you're on a Mac, the QuickPwn for OS X doesn't yet include the Unlock/BootNeuter step so you'll want to use PwangeTool instead.
I have a iPhone 3G (on contract with Movistar in Spain). I followed your recipe for upgrading from 'factory' 2.1 to 2.2 with Pwnage (thus preserving the baseband). The phone has NOT been upgraded to 2.2 by iTunes. After using the custom firmware to let iTunes upgrade to 2.2, the phone did not activate. Thus, I end up with no carrier signal ("no service"). I have then downgraded to factory 2.1 using unmodified Apple firmware. The phone then activates properpy and the carrier signal is healthy again. I have since twice attempted the 2.2 upgrade (each time letting Pwnage create a new custom firmware package), but the carrier signal still fails to materialize for me under 2.2. Which I suspect is for lack of 'activation' by the phone. And each time, I can successfully downgrade to factory 2.1.
Any suggestions/comments?
If you're using advanced mode, change the selection for "Activate" under the General menu.
Odd, no? Any more suggestions? Should I attempt take the path from stock 2.1 to Pwnage 2.1 to Pwnage 2.2?
Maybe a less ambiguous choice of words in the 'General' menu (instead of simply "Activate") could be a helpful touch to PwnageTool. Also, I would suspect most 3G users would wish NOT to "activate", as most still rely on a contract (and as there is no unlock yet). So the default under Advanced may be a bit misleading to the casual user (like me).
If you actually read these posts then I would like you say that we really want to donate something to you rather than paying those guys who just sell us proxy Sims. Your work is genuine work towards our people who are using iphones.
I read that u people are just part timers in this but ur like god to us. u people don’t accept any donations. That means you only work when you are actually free from other things.
After reading all this and replies from muscle nerd and echo who claims that they are or they worked for you or vice versa. The thing i noticed after reading all this is that you people are working on iphone 3g 2.1 to sim free it. So that we people don’t have to buy those proxy sim cards. So that we save money. And you are about to launch that software before Christmas.
Thank you for this.
But what about iphone 3g 2.2 users?
what i think is that after doing this u might be working to help we people who are stuck on 2.2 who have upgrade the base band without looking at your warnings.means that we fucked our iphones and we are expecting you people to help us.
We don’t doubt ur capabilities but it will take about 30 to 50 days for you to get out of this misery. So 2009 should bring us all good news from Ur team that u broke apples fucking plan and base band thing and we all can use our sim locked iphone 3g with proxy Sims or may be we will not use any proxy Sims after Ur effort.
I’m telling you. I have packed my iphone 3g which is locked to uk o2 and I was using it in Dublin with o2 Ireland with proxy sim.so im using now nokia the beast every we can get. After that im buying theirs 5800 music express…..will use it until you get out of this ditch. I think nokia is far far far better than apple. but apple was the first so we have to respect them and still they are ahead in their game.
So im anxiously waiting for you guys to help us who are using proxy sim and updated to 2.2.
thanks
i tried to jailbreak my iphone, and it worked fine, but now the phone is in an endless loop with the apple boot logo!!!
what can i do now? or what did i do wrong?
Thx for helping!!!
Please be more specific in your inquiry. What version phone do you have?
The phone is in an endless loop because you did not follow the directions that are outlined here with whatever tool you attempted to use. Did you use Pwnage? Quickpwn? Mac? PC?
When will it be available BootNeuter 2.2?
Sissi
thanks
Had no clue WTF they were or where to find them.. lol
BUT!
Pepe sent me on a bit of a goosechase there.. lol.. He left a link for the firmware files..
We, ok at least I needed the Boot Loader..
anyhoo, I got it here.,. http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=... BUT!! thats for my iphone. its a 2G with the 2.2 firmware..
Or you can Go here: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=... And just follow the little map.
Its Quite easy.
And BTW, HARDCORE MEGATHANX TO THE AWESOMENESS OF DEVTEAM!!!!! HELL YEAH!!
Due thanks in advance, you guys are doing a wonderful job.
I have watched videos, looked up instructions and the darn thing wont WORK!!!!
Please someone tell me what im doing wrong. Im using Photoshop CS3
Did it 2 Ways. First i created a New Layer - Placed the photo and saved as PNG 24 with Transparency checked. - No Luck
Then i opened the jpg file and did the Magic Eraser to create the Alpha Layer and saved it as a PNG 24 with Transparency Checked.
Both times image was less than 100kb and the size 320x480 Im usng RGB
Pwnage keeps telling me: Sorry that doesnt appear to be a Proper PNG File.
Any Help would be much appreciated. Thank You!
By doing so, if you need to take the phone to an apple store or AT&T for any reason (such as having the battery replaced) they won't touch your phone and you will be screwed. Twice.
Pwnage is to keep the baseband. Quickpwn won't work for that particular function.
Windows XP
jailbroken 2.1
iPhone 2G
Upgraded to 2.2 on iTunes 8. Ran Quickpwn 2.2 to (attempt) jailbreak/unlock.
My phone has been stuck on the load screen for 4 hours now. It resets about every 15 minutes only to stay on load screen. iTunes does not recognize my phone. What do i do?
The only time I had an issue like this was when I jailbroke the first time earlier this year and installed winterboard, a bunch of themes, and tried using them one after another before rebooting the phone.
iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "Mine" because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.
Seems the Home & Power button reset cures it but, I am having to do that every time I connect to iTunes...
BALLS!
Of course, but in Brasil, as in Italy, all the phones must be unlocked by the carriers if the clients want to. That's the law over there.
In most of the countries around the world the iPhone comes locked to a carrier and there's no way to gou around that. At least until the soft-unlock by dev team.
You didn't have to activate because you did update instead of restore.
@cofi: no problem
Here's some question:
1 - Will that work apply to all BB's up to 02.11.07 ?
2 - Will there by a way to downgrade from BB 02.11.07 down to 1.45.00?
I'm using the 02.11.07 as a reference because of the obvious. The holes you guys found on the new BB doesn't apply to all the previous ones.
Thanks in Advance.
This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, simply upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes and then use QuickPwn to Pwn and Jailbreak. This will add Cydia and Installer too."
Which phones are these? I bought one from 02 in the UK WITHOUT SERVICE PLAN. Is this "factory unlocked?"
thanks.
Also, I know some companies (like Vodafone in Australia) will sell you an unlock code if you have a contract with them. Legally they have to provide that as that's the law in Oz. I doubt you can get that option as you bought your iPhone without a plan (not sure if UK telecommunications law is the same as Osz where you have to provide an unlocked version).
I paid cash in UK without service plan.
Where does that leave me in terms of unlocking? I need to go to Brazil for 3 months, by-the-way.
Thanks for any help.
PS: YOU GUYS FUCKING RULE!!! sorry for swearing :)
i tried a post earlier, not sure if it worked...
It depends. What's the Baseband on the iPhone?
I Googled "check baseband" followed trejan.com link... basically, I couldn't figure out how to check.
To find your baseband: Settings>General>About>Modem Firmware.
I had previously upgraded to 2.2 on iTunes (before I discovered this forum).
I used QuickPwn last night to jailbreak my 3G iPhone (using the QuickPwn for Windows links on this site), and received the final screen that says it was successful (and was waiting for the phone to boot up to confirm).
Unfortunately, my phone is stuck in a reboot cycle. It will boot with the apple logo on the screen, vibrate twice from time to time, and then finally eventually reboot again.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance.
Restore to factory, and then try Quickpwn again. It's VERY simple.
WTF?
Everything went fine and my Iphone 3G works again, but unfortunately without any jailbreak.
But No Service. When I check settings: Network: There are no networks shown. just 3G data roaming, VPN, and WiFi.
How can I get Service back?
Thanks.
Macbook Pro (2008)
Windows machine (incase that helps)
Stock to 2.2 (want possible future unlock)
What is my best method and how?
Never underestimate the power of stupid people. ;)
Anyway, I have used the dev team instructions numerous times on my 3G iphone to jailbreak it and have never had any issues..... just gotta follow the simple directions... and don't upgrade until you guys say it is safe... pretty simple stuff.... not sure why anyone has issues following the directions
Thanks for all your hard work... keep up the great job ;)
I have the following problem. I have a 3g on firmware 2.2. After Jailbreaking i had Cydia and Installer, but after a couple of minutes i got a white screen and my iphone is not working anymore. Just a white screen. When i connect it to the PC there is no reaction at anytime. Its not recogniced by the PC.
NEED HELP.
Markus
Restore it.
Rejailbreak. You won't have any problems if you FOLLOW THE SIMPLE DIRECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or can i just activate it with the original network sim, to play with it until the software unlock is available?
Thanks for your time.
And thanks DevTeam, you are doing such a fantastic job, enjoyable for yu guys, and a lot usefull for us :) Thks a lot
Thanks in advance.
Kevin
I think you're on the wrong site.
Kevin, did you use PwnageTool? If you did, did you use Simple Mode or Advanced Mode? Did you have "activate" checked?
Yes it is the first generation. I use Pwnage simple and it tells me at the end that it is DFU and all i need to do is reformat with Itunes (I have version 8) and When i do that, i return to square one.
Confused Kevin
If in doubt, follow this comprehensive guide...
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=...
I everything working fine now?
However, iTunes wants to Restore from Backup or Set up as a New iPhone. I'm not sure how to get all my stuff back onto the phone. Do I Back up or Setup or is there something clever and crafty I'm supposed to do?
Cheers
So how about restore it in itunes and re-do the jail breaking correctly this time ...
You want a jailbroken 2.2 iPhone and you want to stay with AT&T?
Here's how (And I'm sure some of you idiots will STILL SCREW IT UP)
Download Quickpwn.
Download the latest 2.2 Firmware.
Updateiphone to 2.2 using itunes.
When done, run Quickpwn.
While in Quickpwn, check Cydia for installation. Don't bother with Installer. It SUCKS.
Follow tragically simple onscreen directions.
Bam, you're effing done.
If you still screw this up, get rid of the bloody iphone and get yourself a motorolla razor. It's right up your alley.
Thanks Jake!
windows 3.1
how about the stone age?
However, you aren't providing enough information to anyone in order to properly troubleshoot the EXACT problem you're having. If you need help, please be more specific.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1814
I did everything as apple said but still i am unable to download the 2.2 firmware when i click on update, any help? i downloaded the 2.2 firmware manually through another site, should i just shift click update and do it that way?
I am running on windows :( and I have an iPhone 3g on att which I would like to update to 2.2 but I read that I am not supposed to use QuickPwn if I want to have a potential soft-unlock in the future.
Is there anything I can do? Are there any reliably custom IPSW's that I can get?
It's quite simple, actually. The directions that the dev team took their time outlining clearly state the method for doing this.
Please, for the love of father christmas and virgins, read the dev team's description for jailbreaks/unlocks for version 2.2, THEN, if you still have questions, by all means ask them. This site is already cluttered to hell from thousands of people asking questions that have already been answered countless times.
Clearly you misunderstood this original peron's comment. I do agree it was a rather disjointed and fragmented post, but his question deals directly with the lack of a Pwn tool for windows. So, perhaps I can ask the same question and hope for a response and not a flame...
Is there a way a Windows user can update and Pwn their Iphone while keeping the downgraded baseband? Is there an ipsw we can download? There doesnt seem to be a Pwntool for windows... Which means I cannot update my iPhone to version 2.2 and preserve my baseband, correct?
Thanks for those who actual contribute and especially thanks to the dev team!!
Sorry to bother but..
If i get a friend with a mac to make the fw, can I use iTunes on my pc to load the fw in?
Thank you.
Iphone 3G
PC, Windows XP
Itunes 8.2
Firmware 2.2
Also, it's as simple as restoring to a stock firmware.
Thanks.
P.S. I assure all those who think they know it all, that I've followed every single advice from the DEV team and not for once done something that I shouldn't. I KNOW HOW TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. Never the less. I can only get my iphone to work with the original SP. No other SIM will work.
Get the cheese back on the biscuit.
Hope your skills get better in the near future.
I just jailbraked my Iphone 8GB with version 2.2 using QucikPwn2.2. Now, I can get all kinds of Apps from Cydia but as soon as I try to install an application with ITunes, I get "The application cannot be installed becasue it could not be verified". I did search on Google but nothing. Can anyone help me please?
Thanks!
AT&T locked phone.
I did the QuickPwn as described. I have "unlocked" iPhone (works with any SIM), and 02.28.00.
Everything looks fine for a while than QuickPwn gets stucked with "empt progress line" and text:
QuickPwn is about to to run on your iPhone 3G.
Log says:
Successfully built QuickPwn Ramdisk file.
And than nothing happens! What can I do? What have I done wrong?
Thanks,
So I used the Pwnagetool 2.2 with expert mode and did all the steps on the form. My phone is restored with all my contacts and internet BUT it does not recognize my Rogers carrier - Keep in mind this is a 2G (first generation iphone) Is there anyway to get my phone to phone?
Confused Kevin
Any Ideas guys?
The iphone "iphone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1604).
Help :D
I knew that this was a bad idea.
I guess you guys can reads this as a potential "WARNING". Although i followed the steps listed here and at other sites step by step i was not able to get a jailbreak to work and potenitally had bricked my iPhone.
Dev Team, any suggestions to what i had done wrong?? i read multiple sites all refering to the dreaded 1604 errors, it appears i am not alone!!
I'm still alittle confused. I have an iPhone 3G 2.1 - it is locked to the UK carrier O2 - but I'm using a YesSIM to get around the SIM lock - and use my personal SIM card on VodaFone.
I know that upgrading to 2.2 via iTunes will
a) Stop the YesSIM from working
b) Make any chance of a Software unlock on the iPhone 3G - pretty much impossible.
However, I'm using Mac OS X. What is not clear to me - is if I use the PwnageTool to create a custom 2.2 firmware - preserving the Baseband of 2.1 - will my iPhone 3G still work with the YesSIM ?
Thanks guys hope you can point me in the right direction.
Thank you very much for your reply. You guys are awesome!
Very much appreciated!

Sorry to bombard you with questions again. I've read your post regarding late MacBooks 2008 - have a problem in iTunes that an iPhone cannot be detected when in DFU mode.
I bought my MacBook in February 2008 - but I do remember when I first tried to Pwnaged my iPhone 3G with 2.1 - I remember iTunes reported an error when attempting to load the custom 2.1 ipsw file. So, what I did - is QuickPwned my iPhone 3G - FW 2.1 .. and that worked.
Now, I don't know if the iTunes error I got was a result of another problem - or this MacBook modification - that Apple introduced to stop the Jailbreak procedure.
Without actually going through the PwnageTool jailbreak method - is there a way of determining if my MacBook has this hardware modification that Apple introduced ?
Thank you very much and your patience.
I have a "normal" iphone, and I am upgrading to 2.2 and going to unlock it. i was wondering, what is the difference between Quick Pwn and Pwnage Tool? x
Thanks!
WHAT I HAVE TO DO???
I HAVE TO DO A DOWNGRADE?HOW??
THE DOWNGRADE WILL CHANDE TEH BASEBAND ALSO BECAUSE THIS IS THE PROBLEM.!!PLEASE PLEASE A THOUSAND TIMES
HAVE MERCEY!!:(
Recently, I use PwnageTool 2.2.1 with my Mac, I started to pwn the v2.2 ipsw. When get the selection page of the sources and packages, when I click to select Cydia Installer, Cydia Community Sources, iClarified's Sources and others, but very strange, the size of all others is "0.00MB", only Cydia Installer shows 0.48MB. Then, I still keep going to pwn it
With this Custom-ipsw, I [option]+[restore], everything goes fine, only Cydia get crash(back to Home screen) after I select whatever mode in Cydia.
Any solution to solve this problem or it is the traffic jam of the source?
Thank you all and look forward the best solution.
What I'm descried is like that, the sources is all with "0" size even I refresh it, any help please!

iTunes 8.0.2
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
QuickPwn 2.2 (Window)
1. Restored to 2.2
2. Ran QuickPwn
3. Stuck at "....wait for phone to go to recovery mode"
4. Repeated sequence a couple of dozen times on two different Vista machine
5. NOTE: I was successful on a different iPhone with the same machine.
VERDICT: QuickPwn is buggy with Vista. USE XP!
However it did take away my Cydia so i just used quickpwn on windows to put cydia and installer back on it.
Worked wonders and only took a few min. but that was the easyest update yet!
Just to put this question out to anybody who might have the answer. I have an iPhone 3G 2.1 - which was QuickPwned.
Is it possible to restore via iTunes to 2.2 - using a custom IPSW file that somebody else has already created using the PwnageTool ?
Cheers!
After using Windows QuickPwn 2.2 : -Vista failed to complete, BUT Windows XP worked just fine and jailbroke the phone.
Still experiencing more problems such as:
1- can donwload Cydia / installer APPS and run them well error free.
2- cannot FTP into the phone. (dont know why, maybe new USER/Password???).
any input ???

This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, simply upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes and then use QuickPwn to Pwn and Jailbreak. This will add Cydia and Installer too."
I did exactly the above and now my iphone is locked!!!! Please, Dev Team verify these instructions because my iphone no longer has service and itunes says i don't have a valid sim. I am writing this for the benefit of others who might have bought a factory unlocked phone and might want to upgrade through itunes. Any ideas?
I am sure you didn't - I mean you let this enabled although you shouldn't... .... so repeat pwning it and this time set this switch right and you'll be ready ....
Following my compete balls up yesterday, i'd just like to know are the dev team never going to work on the 2.2 baseband?
Bigg
For iPhone 2G or iPod 1G you can go right from 1.1.4 to 2.2 with an official Apple restore then QuickPwn 2.2 for Windows. Be sure to click that lower right box for the Unlock/BootNeuter.
If you're on a Mac, the QuickPwn for OS X doesn't yet include the Unlock/BootNeuter step so you'll want to use PwangeTool instead.
I don't have a Mac to customize my own Firmware. I have Iphone 3G running on 2.1. will it work fine when I use the Firmware I found? or should I wait for the soft unlock?
Thanks
The application faile to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Clock on OK to terminate the application.
Can anyone help?
Please email me on jrg-blad@hotmail.co.uk

If PwnageTool can't find the IPSW on your Mac, you've probably never downloaded it from Apple. Download it via iTunes or find the direct link to it early on the tutorials out there like at http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=...
After you've got that ipsw, you're better off (because you have true unlock) just using QuickPwn instead of PwnageTool (they both ask for that ipsw though). In your situation, do a full restore using Apple's ipsw first, then follow up by running QuickPwn.
I also have a bunch of applications installed when i purchase the phone, would all of those application be wiped out?
Finally i have dwnloaded the ipsw file from iClarified, latest version using firefox so your advice would really start the process for me
Can you go to Settings->General->About and find the "Version" and "Modem FIrmware"?
Unfortunately i can't get into the phone at all and when i hook it up thru USB, itunes does not recognise that it is there
Good news is that your phone works (it does, right)?
"Bad" news is that you aren't really Apple unlocked. But that's okay *as long as you don't update using official an official Apple ipsw, or through something iTunes offers you*.
Stay away from QuickPwn and from iTunes updates and you should be good to go.
(Also, I think if you launch iTunes with your iPhone connected but in Airplane mode, you may have more success with iTunes. To get around that, use the Mac PwnageTool 2.2 and create a custom ipsw. In simple mode, tell PwnageTool you are not normally able to activate through iTunes. Then restore to that custom ipsw (not the Apple ipsw!))
Hmm have seen reports of that salvo56 thing before...do you happen to know what Installer app you installed just before that started happening?
The most critical part of what you'll be doing is restoring to your own custom ipsw. Please be sure to stay far clear of the real Apple one. If you stay clear of that, any other mistakes you may do can be fixed.
I got the Salvo56 trying to install backgammon from installer.
(If you remember the names of a few of the apps that you'll find you've lost, that would be good info too (was "Monkey Ball" one of them?). If a sim proxy installer was also installing cracked apps, that would be pretty bad.
I don't have a Mac to customize my own Firmware. I have Iphone 3G running on 2.1. will it work fine when I use the Firmware I found? or should I wait for the soft unlock?
Thanks
I really appreciate your work but al little update will be great.
You always say we are close to the unlock but everybody, who has a great iPod at home, is waiting for the unlock
to use it as a phone.
Can't you give us some more information about the status?
Regards
Maybe you can give some pointers? My 3g is at 2.2 and I have not jailbrokin it yet nor do I want to, I just want to use cydia and winterboard. I plan on stayin with AT&T for a while so I don't want to risk bricking my phone. What can I use to get cydia on there and the other tools? Do I have to jailbreak it? Please clear up my confusion...
Thanks in advance!!!
Rich
In order to get Cydia and Winterboard you'll have to jailbreak - that is the only option you got. Since you are using AT&T the whole 2.2 upgrade does not apply to you. The only thing you should be cautious is when you jailbreak it, either PwnageTool or QuickPwn - does not really matter since you are on AT&T anyways, is that the warranty might get voided since you altered the software - whether its true or not I dont know - I never was AT&T customer so I wouldnt know. Some people say a simple restore will be sufficient if you are planning to use warranty for something. Double check on that and everything is fine go ahead and jaibreak - its super easy.
" so can I still use QuickPwn and if so which version?
Linky:
Well don't read other websites for this info go straight to the source which this site. Engadgetmobile is correct tho. Basically if you want soft-unlock in the future you have to use PwnageTool if you dont (which I thought was your case since you have AT&T) then you can use QuickPwn.
But let me get this straight: you have AT&T correct? Have you upgraded to 2.2 already through iTunes? Because if you did you upgraded you baseband to 2.2 as well and that eliminates your soft-unlock chances for the future. Now if you havent upgraded yet then go ahead and use PwnageTool2.2 and it will upgrade the firmware w/o the baseband AND jailbrake it so you will be able to soft unlock your phone in the future. As you can see it all depends where you stand with your phone, company, firmware version, etc. For example I use proxy sim with T-Mobile - it works perfectly but if I will upgrade to official iTunes 2.2 firmware I would be screwed as it renders proxy sims unusable.
I was attempting to upgrade my Locked iPHone 3G from 2.1 -> 2.2 .. and preserving the 2.1 BB. I got the device successfully into DFU mode.
iTunes 8.02 successfully detected the phone and told me I had to restore it.
Great! I thought. I have a Mac. So, I held down the "cmd" button - which as far as I know is the option button - then clicked restore. iTunes instead of displaying a dialog box - it said "Extracting software."
In a panic - I disconnected the iPhone - rebooted the device - and all was well. I still have GSM service via my SIM Proxy (YesSIM) I disconnecting it - because I was thinking "Oh crap! It's going to upgrade to Apple's 2.2 - & not my custom IPSW build."
What's going on ? I thought holding the "cmd" button (the one with the clover) & clicking Restore was the same as Option + click Restore
What gives guys ?
Cheers
I don't have a Mac, but from what I have read "http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1558" you should hold the Alt/Option button and click Restore, as it;s mentioned in step ten. After that a dialog window will appears where you can select the custom IPSW, (and here you know you're in the right way) hopefully ;) good luck.
I am asking your advice, weather to wait for you to break the baseband downgrade lock process (not to unlock the baseband, but to downgrade it to a previous version) or I shall buy a new "turbo" SIM for 2.2 firware?
Thx
How long does it usually take for the SIM makers to come out with a new answer? days, weeks, months?
Thx
work?
All you can do at this point is wait and hope that one of the proxy SIM makers (TruboSIM, RebelSIM, YesSIM, etc.) will come out with a work around for the 2.2FW (02.28.00 baseband) soon.
I ended up restoring my device to revert the jailbroken state. Anyone else have this issue?
MuscleNerd, if you wouldn't mind?
1, Where do you think i went wrong with my attempted pwnage? I tried the tutorials on the web several times with no luck, 1604 error, yet when i restored with the official 2.2 ipsw it went with out a hitch?
2. Could you give us (the great 2.2 unwashed) any indication of when you might start work on the 2.2 firmware? If ever? I short yes or no would be good :)
3. Was my 2.11.07 going to be unlocked in this potential unock? Or is it only the 1.45 one that this one applies too?
Thanks Guys
Bigguss
1. Did you restore to the official 2.2 thru iTunes? If you did, then your baseband has been upgrade too. Try this link to shed more light on your error... http://www.simonblog.com/2008/10/07/iphone-jail...
2. I have a feeling it won't be anytime soon.
3. I believe the pending soft-unlock is for the 02.11.07 baseband as that was the last baseband before the 2.2 upgrade.
P/S Keep the faith and feel the "love" again.
I really wished i'd left well alone. Oh well anyone want to buy a O2 Paygo iPhone one carefull owner?

Any news/statements about iPhones 3G having baseband > 1.45.00 and < 02.28.00 in terms of unlocking chances?
Couldn't find anything in comments (or most propably I've overseen it).
Thx in advance,

Juist wanted to say Keep up the good work, and also to ask a pretty simple question:
Currently im using the windows QuickPwn tool, and every time i want to restore my phone with a custom IPSW, it has to rehash the entire IPSW. Then QuickPwn gets a fatal error, crashes just before uploading the IPSW, and i have to Shift-restore the custom firmware in itunes,
Now, my question is, Can you add a function to the next version of quickpwn, that allows you to completely skip the creation of a new firmware, and use a previously created Custom.ipsw? I know it would make my life easier.
Thanks guys, Keep up the good work!!

After a nailbiting 30 minutes - my iPhone 3G has been upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 - preserving the 2.1 BB.
You guys are awesome! Your efforts are very most appreciated!

what happened?...
pls email me..how to fix it..
blitz_pam@yahoo.com
My question is how do i fix this problem for future use and what is causing this problem.
Thanks VA
I also tried using the pwnage tool and got error message 0xe8000024....can anyone help please?
If you want to jailbreak only, then just update to 2.2 in iTunes, and then use QuickPwn
Thanks.
Will you resolve the problem with unlocked iPhone 3G(with proxi sim)?
Because the most of people have update the modem to 02.28.00 and con not to use the iPhone 3G like phone.
We are waiting your solution for this problem.
Thank you.
thanks in advance to everybody on the dev team!

Apple's 3G model guide
OK Hands up - I can't seem to follow instructions!
Updated I tunes, updated phone to 2.2 (I have no problem with provider so baseband not an issue). Followed all instructions using quickpwn 2.2 (nice looking tool!) got to the last bit when it said wait for the phone to re-boot, waited for about half an hour listening to occasional buzz, in my infinite wisdom (stupidity?) decided something must be wrong, killed processes off restored phone using itunes to 2.2, tried again.
Unfortunately every time I now try again I get to the USB/Itunes screen on the I phone (waiting for phone step one on the quickpwn tool) and it just sits there. Then I have to restore 2.2 back from itunes and re-activate.
OS: WIndows Vista 64 (tried running it in XP compatability mode too!)
Itunes - up to date
iPhone 3g (2.2) never been jail broken before.
Any ideas? I have an old MacG4 I could try or I could try to boot up into XP or Vista (just need to find those old HDD's) But if I do this will it affect the sync with itunes on my original Vista 64?
Cheers
Tim
BTW really appreciate the effort you all go through for this.
After reading all the comments I was a bit nervous but it worked flawless in 10 minutes.
"iTunes could not read the contents of the iPhone "World Music Tec." Go to the Summary tab of the iPhone's preferences and click Restore to restore the iPhone to factory settings"
what i do ?
Iphone formware 1.0.2 to 2.2 (yes, the first to new version)
iTunes version 8.0.2.20 (installed before the procedure)
thankss and help plssss
Install the DiskAid or PC Suite, open the program, plug the iPhone, go to the /private/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes and rename "iTunesDB" to "iTunesDbold". Before this step, backup and delete all the videos and musics on the iPhone.
see the tutorial in portuguese on this link -> http://www.minutomac.com.br/index.php/News/iPhone/
It's an iPhone1 (2G) upgraded (from v.2.1) with PwnageTool_2.2.1 & iTunes 8.0.2 (Cydia shows but doesn't open).
I tried QuickPwn_2.2 with same results Cydia shows but doesn't open.
Thanks & regards,
Puchito
Apparently I did a mistake:
At the PwnageTool in the steg Cydia Settings i added Cydia.
As it's going automatically in next step it has to be a crash.
Then when I used QuickPwn_2.2 to repair it apparently QuickPwn took the wrong iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Custom_Restore.ipsw.
SOLUTION: I started the upgrade from the begining with PwnageTool_2.2.1 & iTunes 8.0.2...
Now both iPhone and Cydia work fine!
I have one request though. I used to use a workaround to put in my own logo's buy replacing the ones in the "\Temp\7ZipSfx.???\" directory with ones I made. I have always wished that QuickPwn would allow you to choose your own. However, now it seems that workaround no longer works. Is there a way? I like the PwnApple logo just fine but I like mine better. ;)
I guess I should update my turbo sim too huh?
Isn't this a fraud? When I was upgrading to the new 2.2 firmware my iTunes informed me that I may restore previous state of my iPhone if something goes wrong.
But this is simply a lie. A very strict legal category. A part of it cannot be downgraded, restored, the baseband. Can Apple actually do something like that? I do not care about their warrantee. But can they make such a desperate move to openly lie and go on without any consequence?
WTF help me out?
Just follow the instructions and you´ll be fine.
PLEASE HELP ME!
i got some problem..my friend have a iphone3G that carrier unlock and firmware 2.2.Now he use quickpwn2.2 to jailbreak it.but also have some error message at quickpwn last step...show: quickpwn have some problem.
have any way to solve it.
he system is windows XP SP3 with .NET Framework version 2.0...but it alway stop and show error...
please give me a ansewr.my english is not good....can you catch it....hehehe
good luck
as far as I have learned from the discussions here, the firmware does its job fully separated from the baseband...
so theoretically every firmware works with any baseband that is witten for this device generation?
That is why one may have a 1.45 baseband or whatever and still use a custom firmware 2.2 without any missing functions?!
And it is why a turbo sim will still still work as long as you don't update the baseband !?!!
Abdul_Hassan
There were only a few times where a basic feature of the main firmware was somehow tied to the baseband. One of the more recent ones was when Google's "locate me" feature was added to Maps.app. That feature required the newest baseband at the time to work...older basebands would just result in a constantly spinning locate me button.
It seams to me that a lot of people have upgraded either unintentionally or have bought their phone with this update already on. Yeah i know, i am one of those people (/faceplam) but reading the comments on this page it seems to me i am far from alone, infact it it looks like we are the majority.
Whats the dev teams view on this? Is the new firmware a brand new challange i.e starting from scratch with the process of hacking?
Bigg
Fake??
Thanks a lot, and I look forward for advices
Read it again and learn the difference between jailbraking and unlocking..
I have updated an ipod 1G 16GB from a working jailbreak-ed 2.1 directly to a jailbreaked 2.2 'using PwnageTool 2.2.1 . There was an error while upgrading the firmware via latest itunes and now my ipod does not allow any more update.
It starts always in recovery mode and even in DFU it finish with error 14 (itunes 8.0.2) or error 6 (itunes 8). I tried on a MAC, on a PC, changing USB cable, trying to download firmware official 1.1.2, 2.1, 2.2.. But nothing worked.
ANY IDEA?
But I'm in trouble.
I've downloaded the new 2.2 firmware via iTunes. I've installed it on my iPhone 2G bought in Miami on 7 March, 2008. After the installation, I have Pwned iPhone with your QuickPwn for Windows. After that, iPhone works well and recognises the sim, but there is no signal. I can't make calls or send sms or receive calls. I have a telephone that doesn't work as a telephone.
I tried and re-tried to install the firmware and do the Pwnage, but it still doesn't receive signal.
Do you have any tip for me?
Thanks
I have a jailbroken Iphone with 2.1 firmware, which will not allow me to access my 3G network. It works fine with any wifi network, I've tried everything that the support guys at virgin have suggested, they said that my last option is to upgrade to 2.2 (which I'm trying to avoid at the moment). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
If Virgin is an official iPhone carrier, then use PwnageTool and create your ipsw there with no baseband update and RESTORE from it using iTunes. Let it officially activate through your carrier.
Again - only do this if you are not using a SIM proxy.
I have upgraded my iPhone to 2.2, it's unlocked & jailbroken, running on 04.05.04 baseband. The question is if it's possible to upgrade it to 02.11.07 baseband @ all? Does it make it faster?
Also if I could pls get a small explanation on wat mobile terminal for my iPhone is used for? Thanx
This isn't an idle comment. Seriously. If there's anything that can be done via the expenditure of more working iPod Touches, I'm a harcware-software hacker and would love to take the plunge.
I'm just totally new to this, I got my iPhone and really extremely depressed from it, it's locked to our network here (MoBinil, Egypt) that's if you know about Egypt :).
Moreover the GPS is disabled :(. Once I have plugged it with iTunes I have updated to 2.2 :( (I was dummy enough I didn't read anything about the hassle of PWN...etc)
So now can you tell me if there's any chance to have this one unlocked, and have the GPS enabled again.
Come download from my 16mbps seed everyone :O
You guys rock, thanks a lot!
Have you made a step forward for the 3G unlock today?
I have a locked iPhone 3G which is O2 Ireland. I used PwnageTools to restore my
phone this morning. But when it finished, it doesn't have any signal. Do you know
how should I fix this issue?
Many thanks again.
