    I love how people complain about not having their FREE unlock RIGHT NOW, but they would be the same people to moan and wail if it was release prematurely and caused problems. I've never seen such an ungrateful bunch in my life. This is FREE.

    These are the same kind of people that get on open-source mailing lists and complain loudly that the free software they're trying to use doesn't have the exact feature that they need, and in the next breath say "but I don't know anything about coding, so somebody else needs to do this."

    In short, shut up and wait, and be happy for what you get. I'm super stoked to see such a polished piece of software...

    i agree. i mean, its no fun waiting, and of course we all want it. but whats complaining and bitching going to do? just hang tights. its only software! you will live another day or 2. even if it takes a week, your life will go on!!

    Seriously, read some of the comments, some of these people scare the daylights out of me. it's all "release it NOW!" and "I can't wait!". "You suck dev team!", It's like they have no self control whatsoever, and definitely no appreciation of the phrase "don't bite the hand that feeds".

    We in Australia have waited for a lot longer than a few days for access to iPhones, so we are grateful to wait. With the arrival of the 3G here we see the games and restrictions the phone carriers place on consumers who are so excited to see it arrive, like me. So it makes us even more determined to not be sucked in, so again we are grateful to wait. For those who are lucky like me to have imported a 2G iPhone and have it unlocked because of the hard work of the Dev Team, I am grateful. Thx Dev Team, your legends, from an Aussie !!!

    Wow, dev team, software is looking really good, keep up the good work. Personally, I'm willing to wait a bit to ensure i don't brick my £300 iPhone and the fact that you're testing it is actually more reassuring than annoying.

    Thanks for the great work~ Can't wait for your release! I have a question about the original version of the pwnage tool, if you don't mind. I installed the new version of iTunes and I was curious if that'll cause any problems or not because I want to restore my phone with a custom ispw because I want a fresh install.     This is the only piece of information which allowed me to successfully downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4 (baseband included). Then a restore from backup got everything back (except the custom apps). All other webpages are misleading or too vague. So, here it is: http://iphone-repair.blogspot.com/

    Looks awesome. One question. what if you have an older iPhone that you want to use the 2.0? The tooltips say only choose the 2.0 if you have a 3G iphone.

    "Firmware 1.1.4 on the left is for older devices that were bought before the 11th of july 2008 and 2.0 for devices bought after the 11th of July 2008, if in doubt go with the 1.1.4 version." at the bottom. Also the pink baloon on mouseover on 1.1.4 says "Click here if your iPhone was bought before the 11th of July 2008", mousover on 2.* says "Click here if your iPod Touch was bought after 11th of July 2008."     This is exactly my concern. At no stage does this video show the ability to unlock 2.0 on a 1G iphone.

    It shows the UI which is the same. The tool works with 2.0 just fine, we showed screenshots of that yesterday. Jailbroken, cydia installed and working just fine alongside Appstore etc.

    So... sanity check for you here... you could use pwnage1.2 to put the beta 2.0 on your 2.5G phone... but the full release would not do it? Does that make any sense to you?

    a) Yes. I am also worried that the world will end in December 2012
    b) No, good point. It is referring to the fact that I have a 1.1.4 phone rather than a 2.0 phone. I also believe the pyramids were built by egyptians and not aliens.

    Perhaps because there IS NO 1G Iphone?

    And IphoneDev:

    1) The screenshots are just screenshots. And they show the applestore icon. It doesn NOT show that it works.

    2) The video shows that the pwnage tool FAILED. Why wouldn't you post a video of actually working?

    I'm assuming that if you had it working, you'd release the software, that's why. I think you're just teasing everyone now.

    My guess is that it failed because no iPhone was connected, notice how it sorta times out in the point where it says "No iPhone detected".

    The video was probably meant to show the new UI and nothing more; why such decision was made I don't know.

    Well, the firmware used in the video is old. It is not the firmware release today (or yesterday). So this video could have been posted, like, days ago.

    This is a set up. Or a tease. We're all wasting our time here. But then again, what to do if you have taken all the baths you can, drunk your tea and just want to escape the long, dark, teatime of the soul...

    Guys, seriously. This program looks amazing.

    I'm thinking back to the posts/conversations a bunch of us had about iphoneunlockuk. About how it provided simple one stop solution etc. Just make a website, put one link in white on a black background. That link downloads this program. I'm certain this program looks so easy, I'm going to get drunk just to prove how easy it is (i'm THAT confident i'll jailbreak/unlock my phone).

    Can't wait for the release.

    Thank you guys so much. You've given up your time and talents to bring this to a community full of people who won't appreciate it. Just know there are many many people who do.

    Is it possible to use the PwnageTool to pwn an already unlocked iPhone (1st gen) bought from eBay without knowing what tool is used to unlock it? I just want an unlocked clean 1.1.4 install.

    You should be able to do a 1.1.4 restore. Then use the original PwnageTool and then use a Pwnd ipsw to update and be good to go.

    Dev Team have lost their way. Im going to 2.0 because I refuse to support what this team has become. The application appears to be done and if its not tell us. Tell us what is wrong, release source code, have people help you debug it. But no, instead we have this closed off BS that is not good for the scene at all. This is ridiculous and the kind of things that kill scenes. You aren't Apple guys, you aren't even an official commercial developer, stop acting like one.

    I seriously hope you guys can write a Windows version. cmw is severely lacking with WinPwn (it's still on RC1 status and doesn't work past a certain 2.0 beta), and I will be damned if I have to wait for him to rewrite a new bit of software...

    Otherwise, it looks like I am going to have to reinstall my ToH OS X 10.5 Leopard system on my PC again just for this tool so I can run 2.0 jailbroken...

    Whoo hoo! A nicely polished App... but... um... am I missing something or does it not actually show it working? Specifically it doesn't show installing 2.0 nor Neutering 2.0, etc. which makes me a bit nervous.

    Also in the terms of the app what if you have a orginal iPhone with 2.0 installed? I was because it seems to suggest there is one method for phones purcahsed before July 11th (original phones regardless of firmware) and phones purchased after July 11th (3G, obviously 2.0/1.2 firmware)... So where does that leave original iPhone upgrade to 2.0?

    The video pretty much nothing.
    Winpwn can do all of that with installer.
    Plus, Pwnagetool is used to jailbreak and activate. Bootneuter is the one for unlocking.
    This video is showing how to jailbreak 1.1.4. We don't need to jailbreak 1.1.4 because PwnTool1.1 can do that already.
    3G and 2G iphone softwares are almost the same except that the software will have a baseband for 3G install on 3G iphone. So as my understanding, if it works on 3G, it should work on 2G or backward (I am talking about jailbreak and activate, not unlocking).
    So the video doesn't prove anything.

    I cannot believe all those people who are cursing the iphone-dev team because of the way they announce and release this FREE software.

    No they're not a flashy software company, no they're not Apple (by the way, they did some great work releasing MobileMe) I wish they would extend the release by one day for every negative comment on this page. It's worth the wait for me!

    And to the dev-team, I don't know you guys but i think i like you and especially the work you're doing. And you know what, release the tool whenever you think the world is up for it.

    Based on the video- it appears that 2G phones won't be able to be unlocked with pwnagetool 2.0. If you look at the instructions on selecting the firmware- it says to select 1.1.4 if you purchase an iphone BEFORE today! So when will us first gen phone buyers be able to unlock and upgrade to 2.0?!

    1)The video shows nothing, a fail attempt to unlock a 1.1.4 phone, for that i can use pwage 1.1 or 1.2
    2)A statement saying that you can't use 2.0 on 2,5g iphones(this can't be real, must be a joke)
    3)The Dev team can do whatever they want but all this jokes are too much!
    PS: For all windows users : STOP CRYING AND BUY A FREAKING MAC!!!!! It's better,cooler and does not have a built-in blue screem of death.

    I have a 1.1.3 OOTB iPhone 2.5G, unlocked by ZiPhone 2.0 (or something). Do I need to go to 1.1.4 before I can get any further, or is it more of an "older than 2.0" thing? I have been assuming that I would just be about to follow the 1.1.4 pwnage process. Like a chump I've updated to iTunes 7.7 (Mac user) and am worried I won't be able to restore 1.1.4.

    No idea where the right place to ask for will be to ask.

    Word to the wise: there'd be a lot less abuse if instead of posting constant teasers, there were some honest updates of progress too. Even if it's just, "We really want to release 1.2 to go with the new firmware, not just a patched up version of 1.1 - hold tight, it'll only be a few days." Sure, post the teasers too, but news would be nice.

    There must be nothing worse than having a $200 paperweight, while everyone else rubs their new toys in your face, and coming here to see if there's a release to make it usable, and finding... no news at all, just a couple of posts that seem to be private jokes at your expense...

    It's a shame that people are getting mad at you, because you've obviously done good work. Don't spoil it by acting like nobs. 2¢.

    The update addresses the question about whether it works with 1st gen phones upgrade to 2.0 (it does). As they indicate, the text is placeholder text.

    As for the complaints about the delay -- I am sure they were able to test the application without having all of the UI and nice packaging in place and the ability not to just crash when unforseen issues come up. As someone who works for a commercial software company and knows the amount of testing and packaging that goes into "completed" products (many man months), a weekend (when most of us are off work) seems pretty quick to me.

    They are developing a product that non-technical users can use -- if you don't want to wait, you can always command line in (or something) and pwn it yourself; and you don't have to package it up or build a dummy-proof UI.

    First of all, thanks a lot for the hard work you are doing and i dont complain about waiting. Sure, i have a lot of hype, im ansious but i know good software needs to be tested, and more something like this, wich is gonna be used by so many people and they will all complain if something goes wrong and come wine here about it... so ill just wait happily knowing THERE IS a solution already, we just nee dto wait some days.
    Second, i have a question, i think you already stated it at the end, but it was not so clear for me, so i will ask:
    -I have a First Gen iPhone with 1.1.4 right now. Im on a Country wich is getting the iPhone 3G "soon". If i want to try upgrade right now to test if my carrier works (cuz my carrier is listed on the firmware 2.0) and activate it. Doesnt mind if it does work or not, but... her eis the question, lol..: Can i use PwnageTool 2.0 since my iphone is already in Firmware 2.0 without any hitches or problems? Thanks a lot, thats my big doubt.

    you people hating on the same people that are going to give you a tool to unlock, jailbreak and activate your iphones and all you can do is spew hate for them because - GASP - they are having a little fun and making the reveal a little exciting..

    don't you think for a second they are holding back to refine the tool?? talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

    from looking around there seem to be different ipsw's that are labeled 5A347 going around, there is a iPhone1.1_2.0_5A347_Restore file (supposedly the first leak, and then there is a iPhone1.2_2.0_5A347_Restore file (works on first gen and second gen) and finally a iPhone1.2g_2.0_5A347_Restore (that works on 3G only)

    and the same for the iPod touch.. I have the iPod1.1_2.0_5A345_Restore installed and there are little problems with it, and its not even jailbroken, and today i downloaded iPod1.2_2.0_5A347, so there are many things to account for, the least of which is the GUI, which is pretty easy for them to adjust, the delay is refinement.

    cause unlike others they will service their product after, so they are trying to get it right the first time, so the FREE tech support is easier.

    I'm amazed to see that there is already a tool created to unlock the phone! When the bricking started (way back when, almost year already, sheesh) it felt like forever until someone came out with tools for fixing that. I think that this is really great and that regardless of their presentation on their website its very impolite/wrong/dickheaded/fuckfaced to write comments condemning them because YOU cant have the software.

    Annoyed mentioned that they should release the code open source if they were having any trouble. Have you tried contacting them and offering your services or are you hoping that someone will have the answer. Secondly, if they released the code do you know what to do with it? Do you have the SDK? I just think its really lame you are coming on their website and spouting nonsense. I guess the only commendable thing i could say about you is that you never said the oh so popular phrase "Fail". I may have missed it though...

    Worried. Just read in the New York Times about users simply upgrading their firmware on old hardware: "The iPhone now requires an authentication step in which the phone must connect to Apple servers through its iTunes software application before it will function again after a software upgrade."

    Will Pwnage Tool patch this as well?

    I know this is a great tool, released for free, but you should pay more attention to the GUI: it's simply ugly. Please, make it OS X "like": this seem a crappy windows application ported on the Mac.

    well.. thanks to all the dev team... i am just eager to wait for my new iphone to arrive... since i live in Puerto Rico (Part of the USA) i have to wait for some1 to ship my iphone from USA. The problem is that i need to sign the contract.. but anyways.. it doesnt matter since the activation servers crashed.. so i have a small window of time to get some1 in USA to ship it here...

    As the title suggests this is a video demo of the app and the UI.
    NOTHING MORE

    You guys know with so much whining and with over 300 comments on each post the Team makes, they have to spend time AWAY FROM finishing your precious app to sift through generic bitching and see if anyone is asking a serious question.

    Do understand, THE LONGER YOU COMPLAIN, THE LONGER IT WILL TAKE for the team to release your app.

    To the Dev Team:
    what if someone just wished to thank you without claims to having paid and hence demanding you to produce the app? Buy you a beer? Or at least send you the money via paypal. It is understandable you may wish for your identities/locations to remain hidden.

    there is actually 2 firmwares for iphone osX 2.0:

    iphone 2G: iPhone1,1_2.0
    iphone 3G: iPhone1,2_2.0

    download link for iphone 2G software (apple): http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content...

    once downloaded remove the .zip at the end of the file!!

    if you run the iphone 3G firmware on the iphone 2G it will be slow and unresponsive! once corrected everything will be faster as 1.1.4!!!!!!!

    Wow, wow, OMFG wow.
    I was never interested in the 1st gen iphone but recently had a serious falling out with my current wireless provider. I'll be switching to ATT and picking up a 3G iphone this weekend and I'm pretty excited about it. I have been watching all the blogs on the 'legit' software for the phone, itunes, mobile.me etc etc and had almost decided i was not interested in jailbreaking.
    I am so glad i looked at this post and video. Even if I never decide (still on the fence) to jailbreak, please let me say you guys are awesome. That is a serious, polished, professional looking piece of software. I am very impressed. This is one of the cleanest, smoothest FREE software pieces I have ever seen.
    You guys really have my respect. keep up the KILLER work.

    okay, so I wasn't confused before, but after reading all the comments, I'm totally confused now. I have2.5g iPhone, t-mo in the states as service provider, and 1.1.4 software..... Um, unlocked with..... sigh....... ziphone. Will this allow my phone to remain unlocked and jailbroken to run software 2.0? Not so concerned with getting a 3g network phone yet.....     So I ve read in multiple places that an unlocked iphone 3g will not be able to take advantage of the quasi 3g network that tmobile provides due to att's 3g network operating on a different frequency than tmobiles...(at least here in the US) However, there have been several folks that have mentioned that the hardware may actually be capable of broadcasting on all the carriers frequencies and that it is only a software issue that needs to be tweaked in order for the 3g to successfully work on tmobiles.

    So my question is, during your extensive reverse engineering of the 2.0 software, did you guys come across anything that may look like a lead that may eventually allow the dev team to alter the transmission frequency and allow us to take advantage of tmobiles 3g?
