Does this mean that the brilliant Dev Team are a bit closer to unlocking, I'm not a tech head really so not too sure what all that means even with the explanation :( Keep up the good work Dev Team!!!
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
The ability to spawn a task running alongside the normal baseband tasks is essential for a 3G soft unlock.
• nvidia2008 · 1 year ago
I am a hacker.n00b but I think this "background" task is important, because it can always run in the baseband and "intercept" all calls to and from the baseband. A "proxy" of sorts. Am I even close? LOL anyways keep up the good work.
• yshalabi · 1 year ago
Now that the hard part is over (getting into the base band and spawning tasks) I assume all you have left is writing the code for the tasks. How much code do you have to write?
• Rekoil · 1 year ago
Exactly 4252 characters!
• me · 1 year ago
How many Tasks do u have to add and what had the tasks to do for the unlock?
Greetings from ....me...;)

i dont see the reason for you even giving us a video of where you are currently with the 3g unlock. if you were wasting time, making videos those 5 achievements would never of been achieved. I personally would like for you to carry on with your free work of making this possible and ignore the unfaithful people, who cry for an update.
• TheWrongWay · 1 year ago
I think they're just having fun. :-) Seems to be what this is all about. I try avoid reading too many comments as many come from people who treat this site like it's their paid technical support.

Apple certainly doesn't have our best interests in mind. It's good to come to a place that does, free or otherwise. Thanks DevTeam.

• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
No sorry it means we can go from 01.45 to lower than 01.45 :) I've edited it to make that clearer.
• chiisana · 1 year ago
Any idea how grossly over complicated it would be for all these to work on 1.48.02?

Dev Team, you guys kick butt. Man, Apple only wishes they could prevent your witty slyness, but to no avail.
The comments that say things like "you take too long!" are written by jealous 10-year-old-maturity-level morons that have an iPhone because they wanna look cool and follow the crowd. I really appreciate what you do, and you don't even accept donations!

Yes, I was more or less prepared to keep my white iPhone 3G (ATT locked) as spare parts for my Singapore full unlocked OTB black iPhone 3G. Then this news! Oh I'm not Muslim but I understand what you are talking about! Let us not lose hope now, being so close!
• hugo11 · 1 year ago
Dear DEV-Team!
You are warning because of Firmware 2.2. So would you say, buy now a iPhone from Switzerland or somewhere else to have one at home with the older firmware, to be sure not to get 2.2? Or do you think, if I wait until Chrismas and buy one I have the same chances to make it free?
• rcbates · 1 year ago
Hellz yeah!!

Finally closer to the gold!
Then I can get rid of these damn Rebel Sims!

So what exactly will the soft unlock be? How is it different than a full unlock? Just the baseband not being upgraded? Because I remember the soft unlock on 1.1.3 and not upgrading the baseband prevented us from using certain features such as locate me. Will this be the same with this soft unlock?
• zk_01 · 1 year ago
I'm sorry but will be possible unlock the 1.48.02???
congratulations for your work, you are making a lot of people very happy... keep going with this excellent work...

Great work so far DevTeam. I can almost smell the unlock , and trust me - its a nice smell :D

But i was wondering , actually i was frustrated about something. My iphone is now with 2.1 and of course the baseband has changed too. SO i was wondering if theres any chance i can downgrade or actually use the unlock (when u make it real) or i`m destined to be locked until the end of my days?

• PurpleMan · 1 year ago
Could someone from the dev-team please answer this:

1. Do you think it's possible to downgrade >01.45 versions? I mean, do you not think it's possible or did you just not invest any time in it because you're focusing on 01.45 ?

2. Is there any reason to think that all those hacks (steps 1-5) you managed to do won't work on newer version of the baseband? I mean.. will we really want to downgrade when the times comes?

Thanks alot! keep up the great work!!
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
Just don't update to official 2.2 when it comes out in a few days and you'll be okay for any software unlock.
• PurpleMan · 1 year ago
thanks :)

I was asking because my phone is 01.45, I behaved well and listened to the dev team about NEVER upgrading my baseband (as opposed to alot of people who just flashed regular ipsw then used quickpwn - which DID upgrade their basband).

but my friend has the .48 baseband.. so he was worried he would be stuck.

Anyhow, how come you're so sure that a new baseband version will even be shipped in 2.2? let alone be uncrackable.
• Rekoil · 1 year ago
Their not, the point is that they don't know if it will be and are advising people not to update in case it is uncrackable.

now al thats left to do is write a background task that disables the seczone check right? or manipulate the running process that does the check so that is always sees the seczone as unlocked?

• PoorladRob · 1 year ago
*braces himself for the storm of comments*
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
LOL well zibri's fast becoming a distant memory, despite his blatant capitalization of our team knowledge. And, strangely, despite the hoards of ziphone testers who "screamed" at how very fast and simple ziphone was for 2.0 devices.

Wonder what ever happened to those screaming testers.
• PoorladRob · 1 year ago
Silent due to MAC address conflicts I guess ;)
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
What? You mean it's not a good idea to secretly set everyone's MAC address to the same value? LOL he's such a shmuck.

Also, you mean people actually desire their wifi access? They don't want grey wifi? How selfish of them!!
• PoorladRob · 1 year ago
Oh but MuscleNerd, don't you realise the iPhone scene got 'slow', and that 'there's no reason to unlock 3G'? How stupid of us!
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
Yep. He's still on 1.1.4 on his 2G iPhone you see. Yet strangely he's visiting our blog every day. Weird.
• colm · 1 year ago
Zibri... You site hasnt updated is god knows how long....
Have you come close to an unlock or are you waiting to copy Dev teams work again
• nomad · 1 year ago
i think so, too. He's waiting for the devteam to release an unlock so he can steal and rebrand it to capitalize on his page traffic.

he s just a thief... don t say italian pls... i feel guilty... otherwise.. :)
• darkwire · 1 year ago
He's just thinking on whether to buy iPhone 3G or not, and has no money for TurboSIM :'(
• Kumquat · 1 year ago
He's waiting that job offer from Apple after finding a bug in the Audio stream that would reboot an iPhone. I think with his pas success of the dupe Mac addresses, Ram disk corruption, and use of other people's work; he has a career in middle management - maybe not with Apple, but some big US corp likes those values. :)
• stonefred · 1 year ago
who is Zibri?
• iphonedev · 1 year ago
@stonefred: nobody important, just an Italian thief.
• Oranav · 1 year ago

and what exactly have you done zibri???

Now that you are nothing you seem to be jealous of the dev team...

It's very clear that you stole their work from the past...

And now here you are trying to act all smirk etc...

I think we all pity you... you truly are an embarrassment to us all.

In other words: DEV Team has skill, you not
• Pedro · 1 year ago
And what about you? What do you have? Can you jailbrak or unlock the 3G? Will you buy a 3G when the Dev Team releas the unlock?

Zibri, you are out of date...
• Perico · 1 year ago
And Zibri, do you have an unlock? Are you waiting the Dev Team 3G unlock for buying a 3G?
• Enrico (A REAL Italian) · 1 year ago
Zibri -- Give it up. Everyone sees your true colors. You are a flea on the hindquarters of the Dev Team Pitbull. The fact that you even take the time to come post here proves it. I hope they at least attempt to impede disassembly of their unlock when they release it so "posers" like you don't steal it & release an unlock signed as their own.

The greater community knows your kind, Zibri. You're fooling no one!

Yes.
• Poblito · 1 year ago
Great newsss!!
• skansin · 1 year ago
So...i understand you are Awesome!! Dev Team is gonna made my year , or life perhaps ...

So a question for you , if i didnt see a comment or info ... If its still not safe to update to 2.2 ... is it possible for a 2.1 Unlock After the 2.0 ?
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
Please do not update to 2.2. If you don't, you should be ok. This warning is for iPhone 3G owners who want soft unlock.
• dapetcu21 · 1 year ago
@richardus85: Yup! They said not to update because the update updates the baseband (the radio chip's firmware). Ovbiously iPods don't make phone calls, so they don't have basebands.
• Doumi · 1 year ago
One last question: I got a probleme with my iphone so I put it on DFU and then I restored with an official firmwire because couldn't restore with a custom firmwire and now my baseband is on 02.11.07 so do you think that the unlock is going to work for me?
And thanks for you last quick answer musclenerd
• Dlightswitch · 1 year ago
Hi,
Does 2.2 permanently update the baseband, I mean, if you update to 2.2, and then downgrade to 2.1 will you still be able to use the soft unlock when it comes out?\
Thanks
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
We won't know until the final 2.2 comes out.

Okay, thanks!
• Kumquat · 1 year ago
Will the unlock require downgrading to the 1.45 baseband? If so do we lose any functionality? There must be some reason why Apple updates the baseband - do you have any insight regarding this?

Thanks, and Great work!
• malfesence · 1 year ago
Can you comment on the unlock - more baseband details? Will we have to downgrade our baseband to 1.45 (assuming we are running 2.1 firware)? If so, do we lose any functionality? What does Apple change when the upgrade the baseband? Any of the 3G improvements?

Thanks for any more information!
• Dlightswitch · 1 year ago
Hi,
I was wondering, if I did update to 2.2, would the soft unlock still work if I downgraded to 2.1? Like the baseband is permanently updated or what?
I'm just wondering in case I bought an iPhone that came with 2.2..
Thanks
• Lethlorian · 1 year ago
iPhones being sold wont come pre-loaded with 2.2 for many many months. Dont be afraid. :-)

P.S. New macs JUST started coming preloaded with Leopard 10.5.4. so as far as "loaded by default" theyre not as up to date as you think.

@MuscleNerd

Can you comment more on the versions of the Baseband? Will the unlock use the Baseband that is part of 2.1 or will we need to downgrade to 1.45? Also, do you guys have any insight as to what is different in the Baseband versions? Will we lose anything if we downgrade the baseband in order to get the software unlock? Any affect on the 3G improvements if we downgrade? Obviously if we don't have to downgrade the baseband most of these questions are not pertinent.

Thanks for any more info! Great work!
• Jimmy · 1 year ago
Could someone from the DevTeam PLEASE answer this?

Does this mean the 2.2 firmware would need a whole other type of unlock, or does it mean you'll just have to test it for a few days to see if it's the same as the 2.1 for the unlock? Because I might buy an iPhone after you guys unlock the 2.1 firmware (assuming you do it before Christmas - do you think it'll be done by then?), and it may have 2.2 on it by default...

Thanks. Great work by the way, I'm really impressed with what you guys do.
• pumpkin · 1 year ago
it means that we're not sure if it'll ever be possible to unlock the 2.2 firmware, so you'd best not risk it if you can avoid it ;)

But they come with Modem Firmware 2.11.07 already, which is much newer than the above cracked basband nucleus.
• BoKu · 1 year ago
Why not just something like this? I've just sold ma 2G and looked on ebay and seen a 3G for sale, unlocked!! fully working, why use software these days if some little piece of hardware will do the job? Have any of you tested this option? Or is it still just a case of "we just want to see if we can do it"? I'de love to hear your comments
• malfesence · 1 year ago
If you read detailed reviews online you will see that things work part of the time, often no data or some other feature. They are also sold in 3 packs as they burn out fairly often. Only 1 in 20 reviews call these things flawless.

• J · 1 year ago
actualy, your kinda fucked.

The dev team have been working on the 1.45.00 baseband only, only those phones that have this baseband have the ability to downgrade. But the next baseband the will start working on is 02.11.07 but could be the same kind of wait. Why did you upgrade anyway. there were instructions not too with each firmware release

Hope this answers you questions

What is the diference between a soft unlock and a full unlock?
• dapetcu21 · 1 year ago
soft unlock means software unlock, so you don't need to mess up with the hardware.
there is no such thing as a full unlock, just software unlock and hardware unlock (currently the best one is Turbo SIM (a special SIM that is put over your SIM and inserted into the iphone, but is not totally safe and you have to cut a part of your SIM))

• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago

Dear Dev-Team! Thanks a lot for your nice work, your great efforts and your invested time for all the people. I have a little question about your last point to do: is the overrding the baseband code the hardest step of the whole unlock of the 3G or is it any numerated point before (1., 2., 3., 4., 5.)?
Best regards from Austria!
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
The override is about the same difficulty as step 4 or 5...maybe a little bit more.
• dzp1280 · 1 year ago
First, thank you for the quick answer. I have a second question about the "unlock":
In the past you always wrote on your blog "we don´t know even if or when an unlock is possible". So can you annul the first part (If an unlock is possible) of your sentence? Regards and thanks MuscleNerd for your work and for you quick and great support!
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
All the pieces are in place ... we have everything we need now, at least for baseband 01.45
• EvilPenguin · 1 year ago
but will it all work on the 2.1 baseband?
• german · 1 year ago
Then you should WARN people about upgrading to 2.1 not to only to 2.2, cause 2.1 brings 2.11.07 baseband. This is at least true for a recently bought 2.1FW 3g.

Please, i would be really glad if you make unlocking iphone easy in these steps:
1. not "calling home" throught apple servers ... its proved that application Weather.app and Stocks.app are internally built http to compare your IMEI on blacklist
2. and last thing, there must be a bug also in previously mentioned point, that there is somekind of checksum error of disk drive or something, syncing is timed out, sync is not complete due to disk "failure", and restore is needed

I think apple is two heads front of these unlocking method, and showing out your goals isnt right way to prove you are doing something! I really appreciate your work guys

yes, they will just have to program it for the different firmwares.. They are working on 2.0 which is basically the same steps all the way to 2.1. 2.2 should be releases any time now, and it could be uncrackable.

@ MuscleNerd:

I couldn't help noticing that you are either contradicting yourself or I'm misunderstanding something.
You mention quite a few time that you guys have everything you need "for 01.45 at least", and that all your hacks are focused on fw2.0 and 01.45, Yet when people (including myself) asked you about newer basebands (like the 01.48) you said that as long as it's not the new baseband from 2.2 - we're good ("On the contrary, you're in a good position." to a guy who asked about 01.48).

Could you please explain?

Thanks alot for all your help and support! you guys rock!
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
The closer you are to 01.45, the better the chance that a hack can be found and used. The baseband code changes very rapidly -- for every main firmware revision, the baseband undergoes many version changes. We don't yet know what official 2.2 will bring.
• ticefish · 1 year ago
how big the challenge will be to bring the unlock to 3g with like 02.11.07 baseband ?
how difficult it compared with all the unlock work you have done?
do you need to do the unlock work all over again for other baseband or you just need to modify the code you already have?

sorry,seems too many question here~~
but actually just one in a word:how far we are away from get all other baseband unlocked after finish the unlock job on 01.45???

thx!!

I've now seen 3G phones with 2.1 firmware running 1.45 baseband or "modem firmware" and mine is 02.11.07 this really sucks but oh well. I'm happy for the rest of you when iPhone-Dev comes through, i'm sure they will. This ray of hope was fun while it lasted. Best of luck you guys.
• flowney · 1 year ago
Say, how are you capturing those fine screencasts? Is it because this is text-only or could we dare hope for recordable GUI displays like this. Can't figure out why Apple makes it so hard to record the iPhone and iPod touch screens as this is key to providing documentation, support and generally discussing the device in under ten thousand words.
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
The last few have been screencasts from a Mac (using Screenflow) where we've ssh'd into the iPhone from the terminal. You're right though, an iPhone screencast program would be nice. I guess you could just use something like Screenflow to record the SDK iPhone emulator in action (though not for this type of demo).
• flowney · 1 year ago
I've been using ScreenFlow and Chicken of the VNC on my Mac and Veency on my iPod touch to capture GUI action. Performance issues prevent smooth action to capture and video only shows the uppermost (HUD controls) layer. The SDK iPhone Simulator can be used to demo an app you have the source code for or some things in mobileSafari (video doesn't always work as it should) but showing the base set of apps and interactions between and among them is not possible since Apple hasn't seen fit to include working versions of these in the Intel code required by the simulator.

I guess I'll have to wait for a more powerful processor or Steve lets me use one of those mysterious iPhones they use at WWDC and MacWorld -- the ones with a wire coming out of the bottom that enable capture/projection of the GUI.

• searayx350 · 1 year ago
Forgive me if I am asking what may appear obvious but please help me understand…
I bought my iPhone with FW 2.0/Baseband 1.45.00 –

Immediately afterwards I used the Pwnage tool (version 2.1) which jailbroke it and upgraded to 2.1 FW. After the jailbreak/upgrade, the baseband was 2.11.07. My questions are;

1. Is this normal
2. How is it people avoid upgrading the baseband when upgrading FW via the Pwnage tool (I know I am too late but I’m just curious).
3. I do understand your working on 1.45.00 due to the fact it is downgradeable; does this translate to “were screwed” with 2.11.07. I see very conflicting answers in the blog, on the web, here and otherwise.

A clear “this only works on X.XX.XX” and “we expect to achieve the unlock on X.XX.XX within {weeks}{months}…”

By no means is this a complaint as we ALL truly respect what you do here and are thankful someone is taking the time not only to do this but also share it with us all –

The main reason I am seeking clarification is that AT&T pissed me off and I canceled and went to T-Mobile. If an unlock for the 2.1/2.11.07 is going to be a while (i.e. January 2009 or later) I am just going to buy another since I went with a cheap phone from T-Mobile hoping for a solution…

I also ask because this appears to be a reoccurring theme and it appears that MANY of us have used the current jailbreak tool to find our baseband was upgraded along with the FW.

Thanks again for all of your hard work and efforts (I wish I could contribute somehow) and wish you the best of luck…

A big thanks to all of you!!!
• chromedome · 1 year ago
@MuscleNerd, Pumpkin, or any others of iPhone dev team....

could you explain what generally gets changed in the baseband? Aside from Apple trying to stop hacks, are there any feature enhancements made to later basebands? Will there be any drawbacks to downgrading the baseband?

Yes the 3G baseband is newer than what we saw in 2.2beta2. Please don't do this Apple update yet until we know what the deal is with the baseband vulnerabilities.

The 2G baseband however, is still at 04.05.04 in this Apple release. So the 2G unlock should stick.

You are so kind!
• jondus · 1 year ago
Just updated a 2G iPhone. Looks good.
• Michael · 1 year ago
You can confirm that the phone remains unlocked ? I guess it is no longer jailbroken and installer/cydia are gone but you can make calls - correct?
• Saggy Old Man Balls · 1 year ago
The answer is probably "I don't know" because you haven't had a chance to play with 2.2 yet but I'll ask anyway. Can us old school 1st gen iPhone users update to 2.2? Thanks for everything Dev-Team. Much love from Chi-Town!
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
If your 2G is unlocked via BootNeuter, you should be able to take this update and your unlock will stick. The baseband in today's 2.2 for 2G remains the same as it was before, so the restore should not touch it. You'll lose the jailbreak and jailbroken apps of course until we release new versions of quickpwn and pwnagetool. <--- This comment is for 2G only!!!
• Saggy Old Man Balls · 1 year ago
Awesom news. Thanks for the quick reply.
• Sergiuria · 1 year ago
Are you guys releasing any time soon the jailbreak of 2.2 1st gen Iphone?
I know you have already jailbroken it, at least the beta version, and that the baseband wasn't updated, so the unlock should stick. But how long will I have to wait for the pwnage tooooll??
We love you guys, and are the best. Best wishes from all of us
Cheers from Nicaragua

this might be a stupid comment, but since a locked 3G iphone will make 911 calls , would it be possible to trick the phone to think that all calls are 911
your team is awsome, Egypt loves you
• yshalabi · 1 year ago
Oh man unlock is so close I can feel it. I am ready to dump this POS razor and actually use this iPhone to its full capabilities.

Hi Dev Team,

i just got a new Iphone from swisscom and checked which baseband version i got and i saw thats the newest one. The 02.11.07. You guys are working on 1.45.00 or something near that.

My question is:

1. should i be afraid if you guys are able to softunlock the iphone?

Please answear my question!

thank´s in advance and good luck.
• gigatain · 1 year ago
hey YOU

i have a Swisscom-iPhone 3G 16 GB =)
my Modem-firmware is 02.11.07 too.
It would be interesting if you can doit
• Confucious · 1 year ago
I wish I'd read
P.P.S. Remember…don’t update to official 2.2 when it comes out if you ultimately want a 3G soft unlock!
before I updated.

Now my phone won't hold my T-Mobile (UK) signal for more than 5 Seconds. It worked fine on 2.1.

Is there anyway to downgrade to 2.1?

Keep up the good work :)
• Borgen · 1 year ago
I have a iPhone 3G with 2.1 firmware and baseband 02.11.07 which probably dont going to work with the upcoming hack from the iPhone Dev Team.

If I downgrade the iPhone 3G to version 2.0 (with the DUF method). Will this also downgrade the baseband to 1.45.00 so that it can be hacked with iPhone Dev Teams upcoming hack?
• colm · 1 year ago
Please can we have an answer re baseband 02.11.07...
No point in sitting here waiting for something thats not going to work....

DUPE DELETED
• searayx350 · 1 year ago
Sorry if this double posts; my wireless freaked out when I tried to post the first time :(

As always, I go by the old adage “beggars can’t be choosers” but I agree with colm…

That’s why in my earlier post I stated;

Please

- A clear “this only works on X.XX.XX” and “we expect to achieve the unlock on X.XX.XX within {weeks}{months}…”

Like I said, I am thankful for the Dev Team and their work and I think I speak for all of us when I say we appreciate what they do but if something for 2.1/2.11.07 is going to be a ways off (and I can confirm this) I will simply seek another solution such as buy another iPhone or get a Turbo SIM immediately since I am no longer with AT&T and now using a crappy T-Mobile freebie. I am sure that many of us are in this proverbial boat or similar situation.

No big deal if there is not going to be a solution soon as once again the Dev Team does their work for all of us for free; it would just be nice to have a little insight as to whether we have hope or not and a best guess of when if there is hope so those of us in this position can make plans or arrangements otherwise.

Thanks for all you have done for the community Dev Team –

• ticefish · 1 year ago
no,it can't downgrade the baseband.
but according to what dev team said before, they seems have some other methods which can do that to a baseband with CERTAIN versions.
• yshalabi · 1 year ago
This update will work if your iPhone is version 2.1 DevTeam said that they found a way to downgrade the baseband.
• searayx350 · 1 year ago
Just curious -

I am sure your right but I cant find exactly where that was stated. All I have seen in reference to 2.1 has been with the older baseband. Any further reference has been vague and speculative.

This is what is generating the confusion for me and possibly others.

Regards,

~~Searay~~

These are very good news, excellent work! Glad I kept my BB @ 01.45.00 :)
By the way, how does injection of background tasks help you unlock the baseband?
I guess the unlock won't be a background task which somehow "patches" the memory on-the-fly... or will it?

Thank you very much for you work, keep it up!
• S · 1 year ago
Is there a full disassembly available for the baseband code? Would it help if people with ARM knowledge made a distributed effort to identify important pieces of the code?
• Me · 1 year ago
I just visited the website of Swisscom and i saw that they have increased the prices!! A prepaid 3g is now above 500Euro. That makes me freak out!
The nearer the unlock, the higher the prices?!?
This destroys my intention of buying one next year.

alright, i know its the stupidest thing uve ever heard, but today and without checking if it was cool or not, i upgraded my proxysim unlocked iphone 3g and now it's dead :(

is there anyway i can delete the baseband? does slamming it repeatedly with a hammer for 10 seconds fix the problem?

should i just use it as paperweight from now on? i hate myself.
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
So far we see no way to revert down from today's baseband, which disables both sim proxies and any path to a soft unlock.
• ZIG · 1 year ago
paperweight until u find a way to revert from the baseband then? man this sucks...

ur our only hope muscle nerd!! promise you'll fix our stupid mistakes?!!?!?
• Jensen · 1 year ago
dudes and dudettes,

i can report the same, my previously working ZCGH TURBO SIM will now only show "no network" since i upgraded to 2.2 from 2.1 in a state of stupidness....never touch a running system :-(

now it is back to my original T-M**** SIM and an again jailed 3G....downgrading to 2.1 ends in a 1014 error...

Never give up, never surrender

Cheers,

Jens
• Confucious · 1 year ago
@ ZIG - I did the same thing.

If you hold down the home and sleep buttons for 10 seconds while hitting with a 4lb hammer then release the sleep button and hit for a further 5 seconds with a claw hammer I think you'll find it doesn't help at all...

Using a 2nd gen iphone on T-Mobile, running 2.1. Can I safely update to 2.2 using iTunes without losing jailbreak, unlock and all the Cydia apps and system tweaks? Will Cydia itself remain? Thanks!
• Help! · 1 year ago
Ok this may be a dumb quetion but i dont know the answer...if i update to 2.2 thru itunes does my iphone remain jailbroken and everything installed?
• ZIG · 1 year ago
nope it'll all be gone, and if ur using iphone 3g with someone other than at&t it will lock up forever!
• Star · 1 year ago
So there is no way at all to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 after having upgraded on an unlocked phone, thats really bad news for me as I was not aware I was upgrading to a completely new firmware.

Such is life I guess, Iphone is now in perpetual recovery mode after i tried messing around with it, and attempting to reinstall 2.1 through itunes. doing that only crashes the proccess midway.
I dont know much about this as my Iphone3g only arrived from ebay today, but it seems I got real unlucky.

I have some questions thou for anyone that might know this:

There is a site called unlocknowyouriphone.com/ they claim to have a working 2.2 unlock, but u gotta pay for it, and to be frank the site seems a bit wierd to me, can anyone confirm if that site is fake?

Also Is it possible to downgrade your firmware using another persons Sim? If I have a friend that has a legal Iphone, could I borrow his simcard and then install 2.1 thru itunes?

Anyway, thanks for what ur doing...
• ZIG · 1 year ago
it looks like a fake to me..

sour telling me that there is no wayto downgrade yet? or jailbreak or anything like that?
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
Jailbreak yes. Downgrade from 2.2's baseband no.

I updated to official 2.2 my iPhone 3G. I have a problem now. As i understood i can not make the 3G soft unlock! Am i right? Please help me.
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
We don't yet see any way out for 3G sim carrier users who updated to 2.2. The 2.2 baseband also eliminates the soft unlock possibility.
• Confucious · 1 year ago
Phew! Just downgraded to 2.1 and now have jailbroken again :)
• Ozzi · 1 year ago
how do i downgrade it from 2.2 to 2.1 ?
• Tank · 1 year ago
Can you please explain how you managed to downgrade to 2.1 - obviously only interested if the baseband was downgraded as well.

Thanks.

Has anyone tried this for downgrading Iphone 3g 2.2 to 2.1?

Question 4 MuscleNerd:

- Now that you can run tasks on the baseband, is the trick to change the Sim task in order to change the routine of checking the lock status? For example the imei check? Or am I completly mistaken?

• AC · 1 year ago
What's so special with 2.2 firmware that it eleminates the possibility of software unlock completely?
And guys, I just synced my iphone without upgrading to 2.2 and my turbosim stopped working also! Coincidence or the new iTunes disables turbosims? Can anybody confirm this? I had to restore my iPhone to original 2.1 to make it work even with my original purposed sim.
• MuscleNerd · 1 year ago
In 2.2's baseband they closed the holes that are exploitable and potentially useful for a soft unlock.

Wunderfull work. Have been visiting your blog weekly for the past six month and enjoy it very much. What motivates you guys to keep exploiting the ever changing updates from apple. And why are you not giving up? I decided not to buy a new apple computer for the reason that they seem to have started a childisch game locking the phones.

Hi!!! Good works guys, but I can't install the new PWnadge Tool 2.2.1 version into my iPhone 3G.

I have the iTunes 8.0.2 version (Mac) in my computer and when I start to intall the firmware made with PW 2.2.1, appears an error, with number 16, or 21, or 1600...

I re-installed it in different occasions and with a version of iTunes 8.0.1, but the errors appears again

Do you know it?

Best wishes,
R24

If it seems there is no other way to go with a Sim adapter, which is already available for Firmware 2.2 - for the people that updated their baseband as well, right ?
